That's great, Mick.
On a local fb group mostly made up of foreigners, all of the over-60s were reporting how they gave up the attempt because of the kilometer+ length lines.
How can they complain? Figuring out how to trap people into standing in line in Oaxaca's greatest strength!

The City of Adelaide has a mile wide strip of Parklands surrounding it. This is set up for joggers, picnickers, circuit trainers etc. Lately it has been given over to a major depot for people either getting a jab or testing for positives. The cars line up and the (mainly) young males set up card tables with a picnic dinner and they play cards while waiting. The nights are warmer and they have a good time keeping up with the car's progress.Lots of wannabe bands pop up for a while and do their stuff. No alcohol and police presence in a friendly way. I think they will miss this social contact when this is all gone,

Given the obvious contagiousness of the Omicron variant, that was probably a pretty reckless decision to make. Looking at the logarithmic rise in case numbers wherever Omicron is detected, we should be expecting (and even hoping for, for everyone's sake) another hard locked down winter. I hope the people who make these decisions hold fast against the irresponsible pressure to open up, "let 'er rip", and end up killing a bunch of people just so people can pretend we aren't in a once-in-a-century pandemic for an hour or two. "Holiday spirit"'s gonna plant a lot of people in the dirt I'm afraid. Being "tired of" public health measures (yeah we all are) is no reason to abandon them for purely selfish reasons. Fumo, it wasn’t so much a decision as a failure of leadership that resulted in no formal declaration that masks would be worn. I think we all individually expected to wear masks, but since no one else in the room was, nobody wanted to be the only one, or the first one. The event was held at a private country club, which apparently does not require masks. Planning was divided among several of us, with one woman coordinating with the country club, another sending out the invitations (which in retrospect should have suggested masks), another taking RSVPs for lunch, another organizing the cookie exchange, and me being the go-between for the artists displaying their wares for the bazaar. The masklessness arose organically, I suspect, with the first to arrive feeling comfortable without masks in the large high-ceilinged room, and those arriving later not feeling they should mask when the others hadn’t. When I arrived there were 20-30 maskless people there already. We should have foreseen this issue, but didn’t. Our bad.

Last couple of days drove from Bosnia through Croatia and Austria to Germany. Just a check of the passports to enter Croatia and Slovenia and then straight through into Austria and Germany with no checks for anything, covid or otherwise. To transit Croatia, Slovenia and Austria there is a time limit but no need for testing or vaccination status checks. To enter Germany there is a regulation to fill out an entry form but even though I had, as said, not stopped by anyone anyway, just waved in. Slovenia is checking vaccination status to enter anywhere, as is Austria and Germany. FFP2 masks only in Austria and Germany, Croatia wanting medical or FFP2 masks, Bosnia wanting nothing at all.

I saw on Sky News that AstraZeneca has 0% efficiency after two shots regarding Omicron. Already, it wasn't quite that great for the other forms of covid, but that is really bad. (I had AstraZeneca for my first shot only.) Luckily, the figures improve for the 3rd shot, but it is still only something like 60%. I really do not want to support all of those people who said "we don't know enough about these vaccines so we don't want them!" However, I have to admit they get at least one point for this (concerning AZ).
Vaccination of children ages 5-11 begins in France on Wednesday, and there are definitely too many people who are still saying "I'm not going to put my child through this trauma." Trauma? Really? Even if whatever vaccine they give the children isn't as effective as we would like, it certainly isn't going to hurt them.

I had my booster the end of September, before they started administering half-dose boosters of Moderna. I felt pretty rotten for a few days, but now I’m really happy I received the full dose when I did.
It’s really hard to know what is happening in my state because our governor does not release information. I read today that only two cases of Omicron have been reported in the State of Florida. However, in the major Orlando area (including Disney World), where Covid and other viruse levels are monitored at waste treatment facilities, the Omicron levels seem to be running rampant. Other states, such as New York, are reporting major Covid outbreaks, particularly of Omicron. Several Broadway shows were cancelled over the weekend, and Saturday Night Live basically sent home their cast and crew and ran reruns of old Christmas sketches.

Even if whatever vaccine they give the children isn't as effective as we would like, it certainly isn't going to hurt them. Obviously it's not trauma since 5 to 11 year-olds already have had eleven vaccines in order to go to school. But today I listened to an interview with a virologist emeritus doctor on the radio and he said that, essentially, children are supposed to be vaccinated not because they get sick, or very rarely, but because they might transmit covid to adults who are not vaccinated. He didn't agree with this way of doing things and said the responsibility is on adults to be vaccinated.

Doesn't that equate with the (different) flu jab that they may or may not get every year - every year because of a new variant?

What are you on about? Do you have a financial (or patriotic) stake in AstraZenica? Did the other vaccines work better because they weren't rushed for approval quite as fast? Or was it pure luck? I doubt that either of us is qualified to know -- or to apparently get riled by the outcome.
I say that doubters have a point for having doubted AZ from the start. But AZ has a lucky point for beginning to work on the 3rd jab.

I guess this means another booster each year at least. Here they give you 7 months since your last jab and then you lose the precious certificate which gets you into most events where people gather...sporting fixtures, clubs, big parties, weddings etc. I also see that this confusion is likely to occur a few times more as the various strains of the main virus are identified. It is hard for Australians to deal with...all this queuing and signing into everywhere you go and mask wearing just to keep up with the rest of the world. This country had very few cases and even fewer deaths than most others, and in summer when the blue sky and sea is around you and the surf's up, it is the last thing you will be thinking of.

Bloody antivax.
Just heard that a 17 years old had a sore throat (angine) that was quite bad and was treated in ER, in Belgium.
There was a need for a bed in ER, for one more stupid antivax egotist and they took the girl out to make place. Based on paper, a sore throat is not so dramatic. The young girl got a complication, had a heart attack and died.
Great job, thanks to all those antivax morons and politicians and medias who defend the right to not get a shot...

I went to the pharmacy downstairs to pick something up this morning and they were using Moderna on the people coming in. But of course the big news is the approval of Novavax in Europe today. It should manage to convince some of the antivaxxers who think they are full of medical knowledge because it uses the old fashioned technology of the tried and true hepatitis vaccines instead of the new-fangled stuff that scares them.

Until this story is told with Time. place and people involved I would consider it an Olde Wive's tale...full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. This about my story, Questa ? Not in the press. Not publicized. From a source i trust. Last week, in Belgium. Maybe the family will sue somebody and story will pop somewhere, maybe not. As I said, Belgium. Not in our ADN to sue doctors, hospitals etc. obviously true enough for me, or i would not have recounted it or would have said 'read somewhere'. But you are ok to think it is fake news. Signifying nothing... to believe it you must trust the source and me. I understand you don't and consider me as an old wife. To be honest, you ruffled some of my feathers. I expected you thought better of me.

I doubt that Questa was intentionally dismissive, but I know where she is coming from. When you have had a very long career in any field, you have heard it all and automatically doubt a lot of the stories you hear when, as Questa said, you don't know any of the details (time, place, names) because (this may come as a shock) lots of people like to make things up and it is easy for other people to repeat what they heard. My own profession was insignificant compared to essential health care workers, but as the airline ticket refund nazi, I heard the most amazing stories about the terrible injustices people claimed as to why they deserved a refund. And believe me, I was incredibly lenient (since it wasn't my money ) and the cases only got to me when the sales department had totally refused to consider doing anything. I would usually get the pitiful real story out of them since they could perceive that I had a kind ear, and what I did was rarely based on a strict application of the rules. (It is rather wonderful to have a job where your 'superiors' have such confidence in you that they never question what you have done.) Anyway, all of that is off topic, but I will not judge Questa until I have fully interrogated her.

Yes your honor. However : 1. The material presented here is not intended for use in court 2. I kept voluntarily some information vague 3. I don't mean to retell bullshit on Anyport
So indeed we should submit Questa to a full interrogation as to her intentions. Torture should be abundantly used. And, whatever the result, we will of course excommunicate her and burn her, in case she is a witch. Then we will celebrate and drink to her memory.
The only remaining question is to debate whether we will add humid wood so that she sufficates before dying or use dry wood and let her feel the burning till death.
Ok. I feel appeased. Nothing like the idea if a big barbecue to lift my spirits.
Questa : my apologies !

I will get my booster tomorrow. Seems just in time as cases are at an all time high in our area. Half of the shift had to book off sick today at the firehall as a cold/flu is making almost all ill the past few days. Two have been tested for COVID and both were negative, so just a regular seasonal flu going through the community but mixed with a record amount of COVID cases. I am glad the two got tested so we know it is not COVID and their families are less stressed.

Dupont d Aignan, another far right populist but not so popular in France got Covid detected on dec 10 but hid it from everybody and went on business as usual. A lot of people quit on him. Of course he says he is clean and claims 'diffamation' (untruths or lies said about him).

Oh, my goodness! what an ants' nest have I stirred up. Thank you to Sir Galahad K2 and Princess Bixa for leaping in to defend my good name. Whatagain, my old mate, do you think I would say or write anything to hurt you? Come here and let me unruffle those feathers. There, now, The last part of my post is a quote from Shakespeare which I often use to add to a thought. The part about the story of your friend kicked my bullshit meter into action...it has been sounding false alarms for the last 2 years and I think it may have lost its fine tuning! As you know, I speak and write a lot of rubbish,.."signifying nothing". I think your barbecue may be an over-reaction you may regret. It would probably rain anyway. I see you as the bloke who is the caring for others type so no need to apologise. I like how you stretch and bend the English language as well. Hang in there, Mate. Things will get better...Questa
