i think the no music thing is because more drops come out of the mouth the louder you speak, and music makes people speak louder, then that louder speaking by the neighbours makes other people speak louder, and their louder speaking makes the first ones speak yet louder, and all the noise means the music needs to be turned up, so it can still be heard, etc. ... Xactly right, rikita. I’d like it if they turned down the music all the time, not just during pandemics.

Just popped on to mention that for the last few days I've been in Croatia and Slovenia. Apart from some hand disinfectant at the entrance to places and tables being distanced in restaurants, there is no sign of other precautions here. We walked into a small supermarket with our masks on and it was like walking into a bar in a cowboy film. Everyone turned and looked at us. Everything seems open as normal and no distancing or anything happening.

I don't understand why the Republicans even need a convention since there is only one guy and he's the incumbent. His ego needs the cheers and clapping I guess.
Rikita, in France children under 6 don't need masks.
cubrebocas in Mexico, tapabocas in Colombia, mascara in Spain.

Any idea what their numbers of cases are? Because we have been clear for nearly a month and you can see the rules are mostly ignored now. The police cruise around but it is only those in business and flaunt the rules that are being punished.I believe Croatia and Slovenia are beautiful for tourists. Please make us a report with your great pics.

if she has to wear one for too long, she either takes it off, or starts chewing on it ... might also buy a package of disposible ones, just in case ... I think A would love a face shield like Bixa's. It's much more fun and you don't feel suffocated - And more importantly it is far healthier than almost blocking you airways for long periods.

That's awful Htmb , regarding both the cruise ships and the failure to provide important information to the population. Any idea what their numbers of cases are? I just had a look at the world stats and Croatia and Slovenia have had very few deaths overall. Both reported only 2 new cases yesterday.

As far as the music goes, I do understand the reasoning during this time.
What I don't understand is your remark Kimby about preferring there be no music at all or, as you put it "all the time". A life devoid of live music which brings joy into people's live would surely be a grim world.
HTMB, I did her that report of the convention being held nearby you.
New Orleans was on the short list but gratefully that got the kabbash.
Maybe, hopefully, you can take a trip somewhere far enough away from there to avoid any exposure to those people.

Hold your horses anyone who would like a photo report. Unfortunately it's not happening because that's not why we are here and we/I don't have time. I hope to one day but not this visit. Mrs M's mother usually spends the summer in Croatia but has been unable to get there and has left her car there so we've driven her down. Bonn to Konstanz first day, pick up in law, then 1300km the next day to Croatia transit through Austria and Slovenia, one day to get her settled, car started, apartment cleaned, food bought. Next day to Maribor (Slovenia), meet numerous relatives today who have not been visited/seen for months including an aunt who is now in an old folks home, tomorrow back to Germany, about 1000km.
But I did walk past the oldest living grape vine in the world (400 years approx) on the way to čevapčiči for lunch.

Bars, nightclubs and concert venues - places where you go specifically to enjoy music - are fine with me. Though too risky during the pandemic, sadly.

But I did walk past the oldest living grape vine in the world (400 years approx) on the way to čevapčiči for lunch. We had čevapčiči in Belgrade the first evening we were there. Had no idea what it was so the owner of the little restaurant asked some young guys to translate for him. They were yummy, especially with a big glass of beer.

Rikita’s comment - which I was responding to - described a scene that seemed more like a restaurant than a concert hall to me. Hence my reply.
Bars can do whatever they want to without hurting my feelings, since I very rarely patronize one. But for live music, I much prefer a concert hall or other listening venue. One where any talking (above an occasional whisper) would be met with warning glares from one’s neighbors. We pay good money for concert tickets and deserve to hear the performers work their magic.
For that matter, we deserve to SEE the performers we paid to watch, something that gets harder and harder as it becomes more acceptable for people to jump to their feet and STAND for the whole concert. Dancers are the worst. Totally distracting. We walked out of our last big Missoula concert in disgust before intermission. Lyle Lovett in Prescott, AZ, however had my kind of audience: well-behaved respectful listeners.
That said, It’ll be a while before concerts willl be happening. And the barflies will soon be home tending their illness... Outdoor music venues may be it, for awhile.

Rikita, in France children under 6 don't need masks. same here, i think - agnes is 7 though ... she is generally pretty good about masks - often wears hers when she comes out of school, while none of the other kids do, but after a while it gets too much for her ...

Our province moved into Phase 2 this past Friday (except for Toronto, Hamilton and Windsor areas). That means a few things, restaurants can have sit down diners on their patios, hair salons, nail salons, tattoo parlours allowed to reopen, daycare centres, weddings allowed up to 50 guests for outside ceremonies and funeral homes to allow 30% of occupancy for services only, but no wakes or socializing after services or wedding receptions as of yet.
A ten person group is now allowed. They have proposed "social circles" where you commit to close contact with 10 people but those ten people have to commit to the same circle, I do not see how that is not going to work but I can understand them trying to come up with safe alternatives of people resuming physical contact which means being closer than 6 feet and hugs. All above (except for the social circle) are still to observe social distance. Salons and customers must wear a mask.
We have haircuts scheduled for next Friday!
We had my in-laws come for supper yesterday. It was a beautiful day and the hugs brought tears for me.
My sister is home from the hospital, her surgery went well, results in 2 weeks.

how i will best transport it without breaking it at the times we don't need it Rikita, check out youtube and you should be able to figure out something that will allow you to remove the shield from the headpiece in order to keep from crushing in it transport. Pay attention to whether or not the construction will keep the shield away from the face. I've seen a few poorly thought-out ideas where it was obvious that the shield would press into the face. Mich, I am so happy to hear that your sister is back home & the surgery went well, even if there is an anxious two weeks ahead for everyone. The ten-person circle idea seems designed to allow people to have contact either with extended family or maybe for work groups to be able to resume work. Honestly, the whole phase 2 for your area seems a little odd in the sense that some of the allowed contact is rather intimate, whereas pretty strict rules remain for other things.

asked agnes what she thought about it today, and she said no - but at the time, she was keen on me buying a normal mask with a picture of pikachu for her, so i will ask again once i bought that (she is very fashion-conscious when it comes to her masks) ...

My impression as well. Tattoos and spa services okay but be super cautious about hugging your loved ones? Our Government has done a lot of good, so some improvement in social interaction is appreciated. Realistically, they are just trying to keep us all safe but stress and frustrations makes us all want/need different comforts to cope while Government works to get the economy going. The whole original "bubble" policy was widely unpopular and we did not hear about it for a couple of weeks and has reemerged as "your social circle" which is the same premise with a new name. Mostly everyone agrees it is not practical but we do hope that people will act responsibly, limit but enjoy some personal contact and maintain social distance as much as possible, but being able to be with family yesterday was very therapeutic, just what we all needed, lots of smiles! Now hopefully, I will see my sister this week, but no hugs with her yet, just seeing her will be fabulous.

(she is very fashion-conscious when it comes to her masks) I find the young people here are making the best of the situation by having fun accessorizing their masks. Parents are buying some really unique patterned fabrics and it has become fun protection. A friend is making unique masks for different professions, patterns of scissors for hair dressers, stethoscopes for doctor/nurses, tool patterns for mechanics, etc. Her 13 year old daughter helps with ideas. Glad to read that A. seems to not minding wearing her mask.

I've not checked the figures for deaths (per country) from the virus for quite some time and I did just now. The UK is third after the USA and Brazil I saw. I'm not sure what to say about that but it would be nothing positive.

At the shopping mall yesterday, I saw there was a pop-up mask stand ("bar à masques") proposing every kind of fashionable mask possible. They were not displaying any basic ones, but I assume that they have those as well.

I've sewn over 100 cloth masks for my neighborhood. I was bored to tears during lockdown/recovery from being sick and needed to keep my brain working. So when it was too uncomfortable to lay down (due to incessant coughing) I would get up and sew masks. If you want one K2, message me and I'll send one over.
