I think he’s been struggling for some time. Hasn’t looked well at all.

I have also noticed that he has seemed febrile and even more disheveled than usual.

I thought that the queen looked 10 years younger tonight. That was amazing. I was sure Vera Lynn was going to come out and sing.....

I don't know what that is, but I'm sure she is a gently reared young lady who will not pick you up & fling you across the room. But I won't see the doggies! Hope she sends me videos. This couldn't happen at a worse time. Dogs are uplifting! I thought that the queen looked 10 years younger tonight. That was amazing. You got to see the queen & I didn't?! The world is not fair. probably the most popular choice atm Oh go on, Cheery -- demand that they bring on the queen!

But I posted the video - it isn't long. Hope you can open it.
Yes, I was looking forward to seeing the doggies with the arrival of actual (not just official) spring here. I think the doggies' humans may have driven all the way there, perhaps renting a U-haul. Not many other ways of shipping their stuff and their canine family.
Moreover, the café with a huge, gentle Bernese bouvier is closed, of course, like all cafés.

The queen looked younger because she was sitting facing the camera front on and you could not see her stooped "Dowager's Hump" on her back. May have been wearing a back support brace. She said the stuff they all wanted to hear. She is good.

I just googled the queen's height: 1m63. I find that hard to believe -- she looks like a dwarf whenever she stands beside anyone. She is not just hunched over.

If he is incapable of carrying on, albeit temporarily there is no deputy PM. There's no official title of Deputy PM, but there is a "First Secretary of State", who is Dominic Raab (Foreign Secretary), and he's taking over chairing the various government committees.

This was the Queens 5th televised address in her long career? What the H are they paying her for?
It was good, though.

What the H are they paying her for? She has also pulled on quite a few strings to unveil statues. I'm not sure if they ever made her do anything strenuous like cutting ribbons.

The French police have checked 8.2 million people outdoors with or without authorisation forms and have issued 480,000 fines. That's already 60 million euros in revenue. That should help at least a tiny bit with all of the billions of other expenses due to the situation.

I watched Her Maj on TV, it may surprise you to know that I'm not a royalist (!) But I'm not rabidly anti-monarchy. The queen came to open three new buildings here in Leicester back in the mid nineties...she is indeed tiny. I volunteered to stay in the lab whilst my colleagues rushed out to cheer and wave flags...so I missed the event, however when they all came back and I went off to get my breaktime coffee the queen walked past nodding and smiling benignly as she was ushered into her car. So I did get to see her. Just a well dressed (matronly) old lady wearing a lot of makeup.

I'm a little on the Monarchist side of neutral. I would miss having a Monarchy, and not just any King/Queen but her and the UK history of our Monarchs as it sets us apart somewhat and I cannot put a price on her being a figurehead.

I feel a new thread coming on.... Yes, make one please! My guilty secret is how much of a fan I am of the Queen and, to a lesser degree, some of her children, although the grandchildren bore me. Absolutely not a royalist, but I've been hung up on the Queen since childhood.

Reading the past few posts made me see that I started my answer to Cheery's new thread exactly like Kerouac here in 1038. It must be something in the water here.

ANYWAY...back to the subject of Coronavirus. Today's press briefing was the usual stuff...I'm starting to get really irritated with the questions asked by the journalists. I know that they are holding the government to account, and are asking questions that their readers/listeners want answers to...
But
Questions are repeated, there's no coordination between the journalists ...and they ask useless questions not listening to the information they've already been given. At present they ALL want to know
i, when will the cases peak in the uk? ii, when will the current 'lockdown' end? iii, what is the strategy for coming out of special measures? iv, why is Boris not handing over to a deputy until he's better?
Of course nobody has the answers to any of these questions because they simply don't know...the ridiculous nagging , trying to pin down politicians into giving a definitive answer where none is available has me swearing at the TV.
What I want to know is, why arent the current guidelines clearer? The reasons to go outside the family home for exercise for instance...they originally said 'an hour's exercise. Walk, cycle or run. Close to home'. Close to home to my brother, a keen Walker, means start from home and walk 12 miles in a circle through countryside. To me it's 2 x 30 minute walks with the dog around my local area...to some it's a 2 hour drive to the coast and a walk on the beach.
We get social distancing though...

A quick note who see HM as a ribbon cutting figurehead. She can strip down and rebuild truck engines overnight, has advanced driving and "evasive driving "qualifications, served in WW2 as a member of the ATC...could have opted for a safe desk job but joined the other "Girls" in a dirty and sometimes dangerous posting.
"Hah"

"Hah" That's slightly over-egging it, questa. She didn't turn 18 till 1944. Any ordinary young woman of that age would at that point have become liable for some sort of directed labour or service. Her father wanted her to go on being trained for the royal stuff, but was eventually persuaded to let her do something visibly practical, so she joined the ATS training course in March 1945. So she's unlikely to have seen much, if any, day-to-day active service before being seconded back to "special duties" at the palace and/or officially demobbed.

Not to mention that she probably hasn't looked under the hood of a car or truck since May 1945.
