I am fighting a losing battle with mold in my house. The bathroom is the main problem, but I now have discovered it behind kitchen appliances and my dresser in the bedroom. I was surprised since it has been hot and dry for months on end, usually I never have a problem like this in the summer.
Since you guys always have such useful tips, I was hoping you could help. I bought some mold remover stuff with bleach. It helped, but the wall still is kind of stained and gross. Also, any tips to prevent it from coming back, especially with the rainy season coming up?. For the bathroom, I was thinking of buying one of those things you put the crystals in that remove moisture from the air.

Hmm. Interesting, Gringa. I have a similar problem, but not as bad. When I moved into this place, a water piped had been allowed to drip for years on an outer corner wall of the house. It's the wall outside my bedroom, and there was dampness on the inner wall when I moved in. Although we're in the midst of the dry season, lately my bedroom has been reeking of mildew. Someone told me it's because the wall is still drying out from the inside.
This is a concrete block house -- is yours also block? That could be the reason, but as for the solution ........ ?

My house is brick. I haven't seen any evidence of leaking/drips and the water bill is always the same and pretty low.

I seem to see mold mostly on the cement/brick houses here. The traditional wood houses don't have it. Any chance of getting a wood house, Gringa?

I have to confess that I steered away from this post simply because every day since Katrina there is some mention of mold. There is even a section in the local paper Home section called "This Mold House".Fortunately,I did not have this problem but for many months I donned a mask and gloves(not for Mardi Gras) and helped friends of mine clean up inches thick mold on everything in their homes.I do know that there are a ton of websites dedicated to this. Can't really recommend one in particular.Sorry. Good luck!
