Perhaps they learned how to handle social media in Afghanistan or China.

I'm not surprised that there are anxieties about lack of resources; the Government have stripped everything to the bone. They couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery.

And the alternative is?

One alternative would be allocating money for social expenses and health care instead of building new yachts to show off British power on the oceans. Another would be to stop wasting money on crony-developed software which doesn't work and using existing civil servants and university researchers to do the job. Another would be to tax the royal family and the wealthiest landowners in the country, stop funding the royal family totally and use the income to improve schools. I'm sure you could come up with a few more ideas.

I actually meant an alternative to the present government.

Would they really be different and better? or would you simply inherit another method of spending that wasted money on a different set of non-essentials?

Queen bashing is always popular.

That's probably because queens and kings are useless, or else most of the rest of the world would not have disposed of them. But if you don't like the idea of a republic, I know a place that has just become an Islamic Emirate.

I am not a Queen basher, just don't let me get close to idiot Charles, or disgusting coward Andrew with a brick in my hand.

You just have to know what is important in life. France is a country without religion but we have carefully preserved all of our religious holidays.

We never had any non-Catholic ones.

We never had any non-Catholic ones. Of course but can you imagine the uproar is we replaced Assumption by Hanukah or Eid?

I doubt that there are many countries that have created bank holidays for religions that represent less than 10% of the local population.

We never had any non-Catholic ones. So 14th July was a religious event?

The religious holidays were Catholic based. Other holidays such as January 1st, May 1st, May 8th, July 14th and November 11th are secular.

We only have two Christian holidays in South Africa. Christmas and Easter. The reason they still exist is because a large number of department stores still punt the hell out of Xmas special offers as well as our big Food supermarkets. I am expecting Xmas crackers to be on the shelves come October. As for Easter - that is even bigger in some of the African sectors. Day and night long vigils and many bus rides dictate the followers merge at a particular sight each year.
There are no official state holidays for Jewish celebrations or the Muslim community. They always celebrate Eid and Ramadan. The Festival of Lights is celebrated by the Hindu community. We love getting a tray full of sweet cakes and snacks from our staff who celebrate Divali. We in turn give money at Xmas to all our staff no matter what religion. For us, we made Xmas special for the children and grandchildren but now just get together for the family meal. The grandkids get presents usually money.

Most non Christian religions in France happily celebrate Christmas because the kids want presents (and chocolate) and they also want a Christmas tree.

Yes that is so here too Kerouac. Christmas for non Christians is merely a year end holiday that leads to more days off work between Xmas and New Year. There is very little if anything meaningful in trading at this time for the Fabric business.

Public servants get a new statuatory holiday added this year in Canada, September 30th will now be known as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day is for public servants only (I do not why it is only them) to recognize and commemorate the legacy of residential schools.
In regards to the article, I have read much of this planning through other news sites over the last year or so. The only thing new was about the black page for social media, which makes sense. I would be more surprised if there was not a complete detailed plan.
