So surprised to find a garden snail hiding behind a display corner unit in our dining room yesterday, brought in on a cat… no other explanation!

Without knowing the layout of your home in regard to its proximity to the outside it's difficult to ascertain how the snail made it to that spot. Very slowly...
Having had all manner of creepers and crawlies make their way into various unexpected places in our space I would be dubious that a cat could or would bring in a snail.
During a cold spell we found lizards, tree frogs, and various insects make their way inside. Ladybugs on the indoor screens and lo and behold a Monarch caterpillar who crawled in, and we found a chrysalis underneath a wooden chair within a few days.
It is fascinating I must say.

In the Deep South, there is no way to keep little creatures out of the house. In Florida, there were always the huge palmetto bugs. I have never known if they grow to that size inside the house or if the big ones have sneaky passages.

I think it is both Kerouac. I hate that they are nocturnal and with a flick of the light switch at night surprise one and scurry away. Our cats used to catch them, play with them a little bit, leave them on their backs and render them helpless to upright themselves. After a while the cats just become bored with them.

There is a window very close to the unit and no doors to outside in the room - we’ve never spotted any snail trails. I don’t think a cat would bring in a snail but I think it’s possible for the snail to hop a ride on a cat. Could be it came attached to the unit from new…
