Paris has built only two new venues for the 2024 olympic games -- a swimming stadium across from the Stade de France and an 8000 seat sports arena at Porte de la Chapelle. I don't know how much the swimming stadium will be used after the games, except by the local schools and a few national or European swimming events, but there seem to be some concrete plans. As for the new Arena, pop culture ensures that it will be a major concert venue in the coming years with more and more concerts needing appropriately sized places. Other new places like the athletes' village and the press centre were designed in advance to become social housing and small business areas. Everything else -- about 90% of the Olympic equipment -- is recycled from other events, from the Stade de France to the gardens of Versailles, not forgetting the Grand Palais from the 1900 World's Fair and the Olympic stadium from 1924. So maybe we won't lose too much money.
However, this video covers Qatar a year after the World Cup and also a lot of other places. Yes, we all knew this would happen, but we still let them get away with this shit. My personal suggestion (to be implemented immediately when I become dictator of the world) is that future bids for world events must include spending simultaneously an equal amount of money on new infrastructure in developing countries that can't afford it (because theoretically places like Qatar are also developing countries but without the money problems). Shame on places like Brazil, too!

In the 1980s I visited the Munich stadium built for the 1972 (?) Olympics. It leaked and was not used. Another white elephant. And Montreal paid off its 1976 Olympic debt not that long ago. If I'm not wrong, the Beijing buildings are just standing empty as well.

I did visit the Olympic stadium if Montreal in 1976. It caught (a small ?) fire after my visit I think.

What a strange accent the guy had. Where is he from. ? Sounds like a Brit to me but I couldn't say where from. Somewhere in the English Midlands, I'd guess, but he's got that sing-songy intonation some people put on when they're reading from a script (not at all how they'd speak in normal conversation) - all a bit Alan Partridge.
