So what do we think about this.
At 5.30 this morning Lil Star wakes up screaming the place down, I was a bit surprised as she hasn't woken early/in the night for months. We are staying at Mr Star's Mum's and I get up in complete darkness (as they have shutters) to go to her room and I get down the hall Mr Star's Mum is standing in the doorway looking through at Lil Star and signals to me to be quiet and wait.
So I stand about a metre away from my MIL and wait doing my usual count to 100 before going in to see Lil Star in case she settles. She does quiten down and I look at MIL who quickly turns back and signals me to quiet again as Lil Star starts screaming again. I say "I better go in she won't settle after so long" and step forward expecting MIL to either come in the rom with me or step out the way but THERE IS NO ONE THERE.
I have been stood in the darkness in the hall giving hand signals from NO ONE. I know it was dark but I really was there for a good couple of minutes convinced I was stood next to another human being having a silent "conversation".
I really don't think it was tiredness or my eyes playing tricks it was all to long and too natural. I was talking later and didn't feel like it was a good thing watching Lil Star, more like a naughty thing that was tricking me. I called it an imp as it felt impish.
Weird.

That is downright creepy! Have you asked your mother-in-law about it? Perhaps she was there and simply moved quietly away in order not to wake up baby girl further. (I hope!)

So, if I have understood correctly, Tilly, your mother-in-law resembles a weird imp. Isn't that enough of a reason for Lil Star to start screaming? The other possibility is that Weird Imp #1, who signalled for you to be quiet and wait, was just making sure that Weird Imp #2, whom you did not see, had sufficient time to steal Lil Star's soul.

No, "she" was so close and in the doorway we would have brushed past each other and once I was in the room I could hear her moving in her room next door.
I mentioned it in the morning and she said that she had a lady who came to clean years ago who had said that she felt a "bad spirit" in the house. I kind of wish I hadn't mentioned it as she wouldn't talk about it anymore and pretended not to hear me carry on talking, I have never seen her ignore or change the subjext in all the years I have known her, but I don't blame her as the house is about a mile off the road and she lives on her own so probably doesn't want to think about ghostly goings on.

Jesus, Kerouac ~ don't even joke about that!
Can you move Lil Star to a different room?

Oh I missed K's post when I was posting, ha ha. I did spend the rest of the day looking at MIL pondering on her likeness to an Imp! I think Lil Star still has a soul only something with a soul could make so much noise I am gonna put her in a different room tonight, I have told myself its so she is closer to us if she wakes in the night again, but you know the truth

Tilly - please please put Lil Star in your room....all three of you together. Don't put her by herself in that house.

Its a spooky story. Easy to blase about it, but if I were in Tilly's shoes I would be terrified. I would really struggle to be in that house. And the child would be next to me through the night no matter what!!

I've found that a surfeit of Spanish brandy can lead to such episodes.

I thought Spanish brandy was the cure for such evils? I would certainly be dousing myself with the stuff to be on the safe side. On the inside of course.

The Quality GERMAN brandy... very very smooth. In fact, it reminds me of Pepe in its smoothness.

Well we all survived the nght, souls intact...
Off home today so no more opportunities to see this imp. I am still adamant it wasn't a trick of the light/tiredness/brandy and very intrigued by it all.
Last winter everyone went out for the evening and I stayed in having a nice read by the fire. I got very nervous and brought the dog in (he is a guard dog that lives outside) and walked him throught the whole house before I would go to bed which is odd as I never felt nervous here before. Not sure I would stay here on my own in the evening at all now.
Its funny I have always been intrigued rather than scared by these kind of things but it really creeped me out.

I'm not one of those who think that 'imps' and the like can steal souls. I didn't know about that.
In fact I (nearly) don't believe in the existence of a soul. I try to reason these things out for myself instead of believing, willy nilly, what I've been taught.
But I more or less believe in spirits and energy forces.

No I didn't either, I am just reassuring K I think of Imps as mischeivious rather than anything else, this thing reminds me of an imp as it was tricking me and also as the house is built near a big area of marshland which seems an impy kind of place to live.

might it not just be something with the eyes? like, i don't see well at night (well okay i don't see well in general, and soon i will finally get glasses), and my mind has a tendency to make up things i can't make sense of. i have "seen" the strangest things, convinced they are there - only to figure out it was something completely different when i stepped closer. i could imagine that in the dark, when sleepy, the movement of a shadow or something could turn into a person...

I agree with rikita, I had it happen to me once and I'm sure I just imagined it but I'd still keep the bubby near to me just because ... no good reason I guess. I just would. So we both feel happy/safe is a good enough reason.

Tilly, has Wee Star gone back to sleeping right through again?

|
Post by tillystar on Apr 8, 2009 18:12:58 GMT
Yes, after that she went back to her sleepy ways. Yes, it may have just been her teeth and my eyes, of course that is the obvious explanation. It was just that I stood there for so long!

Yes, the rest of the holiday was lovely. Just nice days walking on the beach, eating good food and spending time with family. I keep meaning to post some pics on the food section when I get myself organised.
We spent time with Mr Star's grandma which was special as she died this week when we were home. She had been well when we saw her and it was suddenly in her sleep. Sad but not unexpected as she was in her early 90's. Glad we had good times with her when we were there.
