a friend is staying, and while trying to get her signed in to her email account, we must have hit something - that has made everything on the screen HUGE> (this box is almost the size of the screen.. as I type) clearly, this way lies madness.
what do I do to get it back to normal?

The first thing I would do is reboot and see if things go back to normal.
If that didn't work, I would do a 'system restore' deal to 24 hours ago.
I'm sure there's just a setting to click, but since I never read instruction manuals, I always do it the hard way.

The first thing I would do is stand 6 feet away from the compooter. Things will look smaller then.

Initially try Ctrl and the hyphen/minus sign a few times together to see if it gets to a smaller size where you can maybe work out something else.

It is easy to panic when a computer does something unexpected. I think I used to screw something up at least once a day back at the beginning.
