I'm considering this nice bottle of Cotes de Provence, but knowing that I have to attend a very early dinner, I probably shouldn't. Too bad there's nothing else open...

Earlier this evening, I had some perfectly acceptable Spanish rosé sold for less the 2 euros a litre.

Sigh. I can't get a Spanish rosé for less than $9 in Seattle. Hundreds of dollars in Canada.

Kerouac, what wine is that and where did you buy it? I'm not at all snobbish about Lidl and Aldi; there is a Lidl near where I stay when in Amsterdam, and I've also found quite acceptable wines there.
lizzy, cheapest Spanish rosé at the SAQ is $9.40, but I prefer the 120 Chilean rosé (more full-bodied, and very dry) at $9.95. Wine is horribly expensive here, and I don't digest beer well. Nothing to do with the alcohol; there is less alcohol in most beers.
Livia managed to escape and play truant in the back gardens in the lane (I don't blame her; it is now a safe place for cats and children; it is simply because she hasn't had the nasty operation yet ... as far as I know). I cooked some shrimp upstairs and left the door open, also cooed to her and she eventually returned and got fed. Oh, just one token shrimp. Otherwise dry cat food.
Now she is flopped out on what was Renzo's oak armchair, and I'm drinking cheap white wine... and water.

It is a nameless bulk wine sold at Carrefour, b-in-b, at the Eurotunnel in Calais. All of the stores there have the biggest wine departments that humankind has ever seen, all aimed at the motorised British clientele. There were not very many people the other day, probably due to the drop in the value of British currency.

I had acupuncture today for the first time in years, and I'm having this to soothe me. I can't drink Chilean wines, they give me a terrible headache.

A gin and tonic filled with ice cubes is divine when the temperature is above 30° but that watermelon granita looks pretty divine as well.

I've never been a gin and tonic gal until recently. I'm keeping one bottle of gin in Vancouver, one on Whidbey and one in Seattle. So far my favourite is the Bombay Sapphire.

We had a clairette de Die yesterday. A saprkling french wine = but quite full of sugar. The day before we had a rosé from Côtes du Rhône = omaine des Girasols, a place we go every so many years and buy a few crates.

Sauternes 2012. nice, and my daughter (Chloe, 14) likes it - of course there is more sugar than wine ! Anyway, I checked the bottles of Sauternes I have stored away - only 6 left, but the oldest is 1993... the colour is orange.

I see that the deadline for drinking a Sauternes is 30 years. I myself prefer to pour Sauternes down the sink.

I drank a 1973 Sauternes in 2001 when Chloë was born. Close to the 30 years. It has nothing to do with Sauternes anymore. The taste is totally different. Maybe I'll hold on to my 1993 later than 2021 ? Who knows. I'd love to let you taste Kerouac. Pretty sure you would not let it go into the sink.

I don't know much about wine. I like it, may go weeks without drinking any. I buy mostly cheap, mass produced, though I have had some expensive wines over the years. I watched a show on Netflix recently called Somm: Into the Bottle, and maybe now I have a little more appreciation for the more crafted wines.
