I don't agree that it's because the teachers were old. More likely, it's because they get the dance routines from some source of suggestions for teachers or maybe from youtube. The reason I reject the teachers-too-old theory is because if you're the right age for those songs to have been of your era, then you're well past retirement age.

When I say "too old," I just mean that most teachers are at least one or two years behind what the kids are listening to. The kids will learn things like Sweet Dreams or Respect about 10 years later.

Yesterday I could not get Back to Black out of my head. Today it was so gone that I'd forgotten I had that earworm. At this moment, someone in the wider neighborhood is playing Back to Black at maximum volume.
