So here is the infamous blue deck. Yes, I know, it's very bright isn't it? That is my kitten Fluffball in the background.

Oh ~~ that's really pretty, Deyana! I thought it would be boring old standard porch&deck blue, but that is very cheery.
Fluffball matches the porch furniture!

Thanks Bixa. It is an interesting blue isn't it? That porch swing sofa is one of my favorite places to be, especially when the sun sets. Now, I just have to decide what color to paint the rest of the house..

Is it like a Finnish house, D?
My sister has a wood house from Finland, it's painted all kinds of colours! Rusty reds, maroon, blue, green and the colour of this site. And she changes it every 5 years.

hwinpp, it's just a typical Canadian type house for this area, a mixture of wood and brick.
Your sisters house must be quite something to see!

hw...I'm still waiting....
My boyfriend and our son are back from the UK now, and they just loved the new color of the deck!
It's been a busy summer, got to do some packing for the camping trip now.

I have to ask my sister to send me a pic, D. I can't find any good ones on her Facebook page.

hwinpp, what a lovely house, and the colors are great, so suits it. Makes me rethink about the white and green I'm thinking of painting ours. I have exactly the same purple flowers in my garden too! It's seems like such a relaxing place to be. Thanks for the photos.

Thanks Spindrift, it'll be about the same as it is now, which is mostly white with a blue trim. My partner has finally finished sanding it all down, ready to paint, probably start on it next weekend, if the weather stays good.
Meanwhile, I've got to finish off the family room today (hopefully), which is a light blue.

The hydrangeas are beautiful! Oooo, and there were poppies blooming next to them. Are those white hydrangeas on the other side of the lavender ones? Love the hollyhocks.
What a great house and wonderful color combinations. I love the natural wood of the inside of the front door, too.
HW, you said the house is from Finland. Are these photos in Finland, or are the houses available in kit form?

Yes, the house is available in kit form, it even comes with three carpenters who put it up in 2 or 3 weeks I think it was.
Although it's made of wood the insulation is good for Finnish winters, should be ok for Canadian ones as well.
I've no clue about her flowers but I like the cherry, apple, plum and pear trees at the back!

It looks like such a nice tight house -- cozy in winter and bad weather.
Wow, she has a tutti frutti orchard!

What a lovely home hw. So quiet and peaceful looking a neighborhood. I like that you're kind of tucked in there. Lovely colors too. Thanks. Was expecting some greenery but I guess there's enough around you that people don't go all out with plantings.

I'm trying with the greens. We've now got three flower pots but I think my girlfriend wants to get more next Sunday. I'm going to post a thread about the plants but it's still a secret project so don't make me spill the beans here.

That looks like such a pleasant street -- but in all of the big Asian cities, even Bangkok and Tokyo, the minute you leave the main boulevards you can find this sort of tranquillity.
Noticing the big gates and fences, I would assume that crime is still a problem in Phnom Penh...?

Sorry ~~ didn't comment on your nice house. I love the color combination -- those soft greens and blues.
The country where you live looks an awful lot like the country where I live!

Crime is a problem, yes. And I've seen footsteps in my plant pots. But as long as you're careful and don't forget to lock every entry nothing happens. Anything that is left outside is taken. Except for potted plants, rubber slippers and dish detergent apparently.
There are indeed similarities between Mexico and Cambodia. Old culture, food, standard of living (Mexico is a bit richer though), corruption (do you or DC notice much?),, disenfranchised indigenous tribes, mass murder (longer ago in Mexico of course). But great, resilient friendly people too.

But great, resilient friendly people too. I don't know about standard of living and Mexico being richer. The chasm between how the better-off and the poor live is so deep and wide, I can't imagine how a mean is determined. And corruption? It's rife and acknowledged by all. Very interesting hearing this point of view from you, as sometimes I have to look twice at your photos because they seem so un-exotic, even famiiar to me.
