I must say there's something weirdly fascinating about having common knowledge - though our collective memories are certainly skewed - with people you haven't seen since 1980.
I imagine the next set of ding, ding, dings will begin to arrive after the event when the rest of us hear about what a "great" time we missed.

Country music, which I never listen to if I can help it. I am whiling away the hour while my cracked windshield is being replaced, at the restaurant next door, which would be a nice place if not for the music.
The free WIFI is some consolation, as is the prime rib Swiss melt sandwich I've just inhaled.

We are having a hailstorm. It sounds as though pingpong balls are being thrown against the house.

I am hearing much more traffic than usual due to the windows being open because of the heat.
At the same time, I am listening to an old episode of Six Feet Under which is playing on the television upstairs. It seems very dated now.

Multiple smoke alarms shrieking in nasal tandem, as the bacon frying in the kitchen sets off an ear-splitting wake-up call. There's a hard-wired linked alarm system in this house we're renting as 10 of us descend upon the Berkshires for a weekend of theater.
