oh i am not that high up in that picture, my feet there are only maybe two metres off the ground. fell yesterday btw, and got some scratches because i got my leg caught in the rope. now i have a new reason to be lazy and tell people my leg hurts when i need to do anything that involves working. well not really, they don't even look that spectacular those scratches.

ah yes, and nice weather here in berlin... which is good, as my dad's house has their "hoffest" (party in the courtyard of the house) today... i am going there too, even though i don't live there.

Almost warm and muggy in Paris. I say 'almost' because 20° can't really be qualified by those terms at this time of year. Supposed to be stormy tonight.

We have only had a couple of hard rains so far, although should have had more this time of year. The trees around my house have leafed out dramatically though in the last three days, and the birds have been furiously mating and singing. It's lovely and cool in the mornings and evenings, although it can be hot, glary, and dusty during the day.

Are you saving your pesos to buy a new camera and take a few photos around your new abode?

I t was so warm last night trying to sleep,no breeze, dead air. I have been devoting my a.m. (with small breaks on here) to the seasonal furniture rearrange to get max benefit of door/window cross breeze,ventilation.Mr. C. is thrilled to be moving furniture on a Sunday morning.

I would give up food right now to get a new camera. The problem is getting to the US to buy it!

Can't your son send you one through some reliable means?

The only reliable means to get something here is to have someone bring it. That's how I get other things such as credit or atm cards -- wait for a friend to go to the States, then have it sent to the person's address there to be brought back.
I will probably be going to the US in the next couple of months, but since I see opportunities every day for camera use, that seems the distant future. Since the stupid thing is broken anyway, I'll look around downtown to see if it can be repaired -- they can't screw it up any more.
Question: can I re-use the memory card in the next camera?

If it's the same sort of memory card, of course you can. There are still 4 different standards, but I have the impression that SanDisk is winning.

SanDisk is the name of the company that produces different cards. Check the kind of card you have in your old camera, CF, MMS or SD. Then when you buy your new camera check whether it uses the same kind of card.

Some cameras these days can take two different types of card. Mrs G's Fuji can take SD and XD.

May 11, 12 & 13 are the traditional "Saints of Ice" in France -- 3 days that folklore warns are likely to be unseasonably cold. In the Middle Ages, farmers would worry about their crops freezing on these three days, just when they are vulnerable.
Apart from some really heavy rain, we seem to have survived this year, except for some vineyards that were destroyed by a hailstorm in the Bordeaux region.

They're called 'Eisheilige' in Germany. Exactly the same words. Must be something Catholic.

We just had a tremendous thunderstorm. The streets of my neighborhood were completely underwater, but it was a great way to discover that I no longer have any leaks at all in my attic ceiling. Not the slightest trace of moisture anywhere.

We've had three tiresome days of being buffeted by high winds (the garden is the worse for the wear) and today has been grey, cold and showery. Usual English weather.

Congrats on the tight roof, K.
We are not getting the rain we're supposed, and it's hot, muggy, & oppressive. There are gnats and other biting things. I demand our rainy season!

We've had a very nice and unusually warm April and May has been the same until a couple of days ago. It's changed to rainy, even a bit thunder stormy. Temperatures are going to drop down to 14° in a few days. But that was to be expected.

Sunny and breezy today, likely to stay that way until the Winter, mostly. I like the proper seasons we get here. Although, the winter could be shorter.
