Yesterday the State of Victoria in Australia held their elections for Government. The Labor Party had been in power for 4 years and the Liberal Party has spent the last year in-fighting and back-stabbing each other. I'll just give you some headlines, actual results you can find on-line.
The Victorian election turned out to be a Labor whitewash. Victorian election loss reignites Liberal infighting Victorian election results show Labor landslide
- Victorians have rejected the low road of fear and division by voting Labor back into government,

The first headline I saw this morning was that the EU had accepted May's plan. Only Parliament can drag the UK back from the brink now.
I can't believe that my country and its traditional mother country both decided to blow themselves up in the same year.

I can't believe that my country and its traditional mother country both decided to blow themselves up in the same year. Of course they would accept it. They have done well out of it. Sigh.... We shall survive. There will still be excellent roast chicken dinners like wot I have just had.

Wait and see what a mess our own politicians make of it, poor May is doing her best to get them to back her. The EU has been doing what it has always done, giving us a bum deal. The terms are not too bad except for the £39 billion, £39 would be generous.

Although I regret it too, fishing is one of those industries that has been pretty much eliminated in this part of the world, just like textiles. Other countries do it so much cheaper, and even if "we" do it better, people want to pay as little as possible. That will not change.

Actually I always think that if fuel was much more expensive - by taking into account an ecological cost - we would actually protect our local industries. But the gilets jaunes want cheap fuel for all. What is cheap finally ? The opportunity to buy from china and killing your children's work whilst saving 2 pennies a kilogram of cod ?
Anyway I start to think May is indeed a good politician.

Ah yes ~ precisely why I came to this thread just now. The UK can unilaterally abandon the article 50 process ... In his formal opinion, Sánchez-Bordona [the European court of justice's advocate general] said it was essential MPs knew they could stop the Brexit process, dismissing the UK government’s claims the issue was hypothetical. -- much more complete information in the sourceAnd an interesting opinion piece on the advocate general's ruling.

If that were to happen (unlikely in my opinion because it could be considered humiliating by too many people), I wonder if anybody will calculate how much money has been spent on the process in the past two years.

Where has the money actually gone? Lawyers and their entourages, conference organisers and the hospitality industry, transport from cabs to airlines, increased administration staff and over-time, printing and distribution of documents, cooks and cleaners...
Seems to me there is an entire industry dependent on the Brexit drama. From the PM down, a lot of jobs are on the line.
