Yes. This has been changed, but it is not retroactive. If Prince William makes it to the throne, his children are next in line, in order, whatever their sex.
Wasn't that also why the Netherlands had so many queens? I imagine that, being a socially progressive country, they have also changed the rules of succession, but I think there were no qualified male heirs there either.

I know that Monaco changed its laws ("Monacan laws" -- what a laugh!) so that a woman can become head of state.

Luxembourg, I think, not the Netherlands. I'm not sure if Salic Law applied there and had to removed for Wilhelmina (before her, there were male heirs from 1815). But there was a potential issue until she married and had her own child, that the succession would pass to the elderly German gentleman, who had become Grand Duke of Luxembourg (where the Salic Law did apply) when her father died while she was just a baby. Before Wilhelmina, the Kings of the Netherlands were also Grand Dukes of Luxembourg, but when her father died, the said elderly German became Grand Duke: but his son had no male heirs, so that job went to the son's daughters in turn.

Szulc law has been discontinued in Belgium too. Women can now rule. Btw our king is/was cousin with grand Duc de Luxembourg.

I completely understand why our British members are keeping silent about current events. Not only is the current situation incomprehensible and utterly appalling in every political way imaginable, but also if I were living in a country with this sort of thing happening, I think I would want to hide under a rock, even in light of other amazing unpleasant political situations in places like the United States, Brazil, Italy and Israel.

This recent drama involving BoJo and Brexit is gob smacking stuff. You couldn't tell this as plausible fiction with a straight face. Compared to Boris, even Trump is a "stable genius", something I would have thought impossible. Corbyn won't be stupid enough to take the election bait before November, Boris slated to go down in history as the most inept, most failed PM in the UK's long and checkered history.

I don’t care what they do as long as sterling goes up against the Euro. I'm leaving Spain in a few days but my savings and pension are all in sterling and practically I do more stuff with Euros than UK pounds.
As to the political situation my new hero is Guy Fawkes. I have every sympathy for him.

There are two reasons why I don't rush to comment: the core problem is that the electorate is too diversely split to produce a government capable of getting a decision through, and on top of that the ins and outs of parliamentary manoeuvring move too quick to keep up with. They've already had one go at putting the Brexiteers in charge of actually getting it organised, and they flunked that, so the grown-ups took over, and that failed. Maybe it required someone like Johnson to push their line to the limits for some sort of realism to finally dawn on the diehards, but somehow I doubt even that's going to work. But likewise I doubt if a new election's going to produce any more clarity (back to the core problem); and even if the background moves towards a multi-party government to organise a second referendum come to something, the diehard Brexiteers won't give up, even if we did ultimately vote to remain after all. And in that situation, whatever government follows on is going to be on an uncomfortable position within EU deliberations. Yes, I'm translating something about the similar mess in Italy, but Italy is so often in a similar mess that it is nothing unusual and the State apparatus muddles on without a government. And Italy doesn't hold the same place in terms of international trading and finance that the UK does.

Yes, the Italians are used to messy government, coalitions and somehow muddle on. The Brits expect things to work in their confrontational two-party system which they have been told for years is the best and the Mother of All Parliaments and they are suddenly faced with a mess in which no decisions are being taken and agreed upon.

Everybody is fed up and nobody I've spoken to (leave or remain voters) has any faith in our parliament. It's so divisive...I have friends and family on both sides of the fence. Leavers saying 'out means out...we voted to leave...it was a democratic decision' Remainers saying 'We didn't know the facts, it was an opinion seeking exercise NOT a proper vote'...tempers are getting frayed...I must admit that the 'leave' lot do seem to have more trolls and foul mouthed National Front hooligans if the web is anything to go by..but I know that remain voters can be just as radical. I don't know what to think anymore.
