They are, but what is worse is that they're elected. Reading about bad monarchs in history, one always thinks tsk tsk, that's what you get when people inherit a position of power. So in the US we got rid of any vestige of monarchy, but apparently not of an impulse to self-destructive populism.

For those who suspected it, it appears that Donald Trump really is Voldemort with a wig:

Today's The Times has a cartoon showing Mr Trump standing on a very big dais in front of the Capitol reviewing his forces, with that wonderful smug grin. He is dressed as Napoleon, but instead of his right hand being tucked in his jacket, it is tucked into his trouser flies.
Now who is taking the piss.

Mick the Cactus kindly revived one of my threads today. When I looked at it again, I realized that back in August of 2017 I had taken the perfect picture to represent Tr*mp's America.

Well, after more than a year in the White House, President Trump has finally scheduled the first official state visit by a foreign head of state. President Macron of France will be received from April 23 to 25 with the full hullabaloo -- big fancy dinner at the White House, joint press conference, etc. Apparently it is Melania who ordered her husband to do it.
The full programme has not been completely mapped out, but there is a good chance that Macron will go to New Orleans to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the city.

Oh lord. I do hope he gets to go to New Orleans, as the DC portion of that trip will be excruciating. Whether or not one is a Macron fan, surely he doesn't deserve to be smothered in the weasely welcoming arms of Puke Ryan and the other crud smarmily serving what currently passes as president of the US.

So is Trump going to have his military parade at that time? Just to show Macron that his is bigger?

Normally Montréal Mayor Valérie Plante would love to attend the N.O. celebration, but I doubt she wants to shake hands with the Donald. Québec and New Brunswick will certainly send dignitaries, and perhaps performing artists.
Will Macron's chefs be serving cheeseburgers & McDo-type frozen frites? Or will the Donald engage a food-taster?

After two days of Trump with Macron in Washington, I kind of doubt that Trump would go to New Orleans as well.

You are right. How silly of me. And the chefs will definitely know how to cook actual food.

Bixa, Your use of the English language when describing the Obnoxious Occupant of the Oval Office lifts from mere prose to the realms of poetry. A collection of your epithets should be preserved for generations to come.

Indeed. And given the power of the presidency, he can do more damage than Tony Abbott and Stephen Harper combined.
