South Carolina -- state in the coastal southeastern region of the US, bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean. That marshy coastland is easily one of the most beautiful places in the US.

Thanks for this review. I keep reading about how wonderful Past Lives is, but it only sounded like another variation on romance & nostalgia -- maybe well done, but nothing that tempted me to bother watching it. Your precis and the trailer shore up that impression.
Re: Priscilla and Elvis, Elvis &/or Priscilla ~~ There has always been more than a little ick factor to anything about Elvis, so I have no desire to peep into his private life.

Kimby, report it & delete it.
There are several scams going around FB, all more or less suggesting that if you don't respond to their messages immediately, you will lose your account. But the fact is that if you do respond, you will be uckfayed by a scammer.
Kerouac, FB had a rule about having only one account -- dont know if that still holds. I have two accounts -- one is public and the other private with every privacy shield available in place. I have not posted in that one since 2010.
I did get bounced off of Instagram, apparently because I was hacked. This could have been because I don't like Instagam, don't use it, and in fact had forgotten about it until getting stern, demanding emails from Instagram. In order to get back into their stupid platform I have to hold up a piece of paper with the current date & take a selfie which I then send to Instagram. The chances of my doing that are nil.

I just noticed that the crustless bread is from H.E.B., meaning that it's also sold in the US. Maybe it's for picky children (& adults) who don't liiiiiiiiike the crust.
My guess is that it's regular bread with the crust cut off, as I believe it's impossible to bake bread without a crust. If you expand the photo, you can see that the edges look exactly like bread with the crust cut off.
And don't let anyone ever say that we here on anyport are afraid to tackle the big issues!

It's all so dreadful. I'm having trouble working up a decent head of snark. Agree about Haile Steinfeld, also that color is gorgeous. The train seems more than unnecessary, as though the designer looked at the dress and said, "Oh, this is nice! How can I make it stupid?" Natalie Portman's dress is pretty. Call me a prude, a fuddy-dud, whatever you wish, but I feel utter contempt for these women who are there supposedly because their talent is being showcased, yet feel the need to play peek-a-boo with their breasts and do the moronic thing of exposing one leg. Also, wear clothes that fit! At least half of the anyporters reading this have breasts & know how garments look and feel when they don't fit. Even Hannah Waddingham, who is about as fit as can be looks as though one of her boobs is trying to escape out of desperation. Shouldn't all that kind of vulgarity have passed away by now. And while I'm on a roll, let me say again that formal clothes and high heels call for -- will always call for -- hosiery. Those naked, veiny feet bulging over the top of stilettos just look tacky. And men -- put a shirt on. All of you baring your chests under wide tuxedo collars just look like simpering idiots. Edited to add ~~ lucky me. When I went to click off the tab with the red carpet, the preview of the page had a headline about Gillian Anderson's dress. I had looked at that creation and though she looked like mutton dressed as lamb. I also wondered why it wasn't hemmed and what she was going to gather with her little basket. Well, lo & behold, the dress has a message. It features what People magazine calls vaginas, presumably because they don't know the difference between those and pudenda.

somebody (she doesn't know who) got there first and put beautiful floral displays on both the plots. We still don't know who decorated the graves, none of the family did it. I'm wondering if there are two graves -- possibly even in a different cemetery in your town -- that are missing their flowers because the florist went to the wrong place. If there is a tag or business card on either display, it might be worth phoning the florist.

I've never either cut crusts off bread nor, as far as I can remember, ever been served bread with the crusts cut off. Am I missing anything at all? Probably missing the ability to drink tea with your pinky raised. But seriously, there is a practical reason for cutting off the crusts sometimes. I wanted the ingredients (ham and cheese) to completely cover the bread and for people to be able to pick up the sandwich halves (diagonal, of course) easily. Both those things work better without the crusts, plus the crusts are the part that gets stale more quickly when sandwiches are setting out. I never cut off the crusts at home because there is no reason. Since I don't like to waste, I turned all the crusts into French toast. The fact that crustless loaves of bread can be bought is amazing!

I've never done Dry January because I don't drink enough to feel I need to dry out. When I lived in New Orleans I used to give up drinking for Lent because I drank more then and because it was easy to find a Lent-buddy even among the Protestant population.
That is admirable that you're going those extra 28 days, Whatagain. It shows more self discipline than people who pant like dogs for the end of January. Even though the rule with Lent is that you can have whatever you gave up on Sundays during Lent, I just did the whole period dry. Otherwise, what's the point?

Gawd! I can't help the suspicion that much of this is less in service of being inclusive of everyone and more about showing how hip & au courant one is.
Didn't watch the video because there is no way I'll sit through four minutes of someone being cute about lettuce & other aspects of sandwich making. (yes, watched first few seconds) Also, in general, what is the point of recipe videos unless they're for something exceptionally complicated like a strudel that serves 40. Even then, photos would probably serve as well.
But I digress ~ I assume the sandwich is some kind of blt with variations?
Friday I had to get up early in order to make many, many sandwiches to take to a wake. I didn't mind that except for having to cut the crusts off. Even though I used the good bread knife, it wasn't a very tidy process on the super soft Frankenbread I used.

That sounds a far more horizon- and literature-exanding book assignment than anything I was offered at that age. Fortunately, I loved to read & was encouraged to, so got to go beyond the dreary offering of To Kill a Mockingbird, considered worthy for that 13--14 year old age group.

Master Gardener -- filmed in my home town! Two seconds into the trailer & I recognized Rosedown, so looked up the filming locations. Sadly, the trailer did nothiing to make me want to watch the movie.
I can figure it out from context, but never heard the phrase "three dome" before.

And, from my link above ~
While the F.A.A. has yet to publicly discuss the cause of the incident, in its grounding order to the airlines, it asked that they inspect what it called a βmid cabin door plug.β Some of the Boeing 737 Max 9s are configured with fewer seats and, therefore, do not need all the emergency exits originally designed for the plane. The unneeded exits are filled with a plug.
Alaska Airlines confirmed in a statement on Saturday afternoon that it had started inspecting the door plugs and cleared 18 of its 65 Max 9s to return to service. The airline said it expected to complete the inspections in the next few days.
Told you it was pop-bead technology!

What a beautiful spot and and a true, serious botanical garden too, it would appear.
You show so many great vistas. I particularly love the one looking across the road to the mountains beyond.
