I'll be honest. It took me all day to do this one because I was stumped. Not a great way to close out the Wordle year ~ Wordle 925 6/6* β¬β¬β¬β¬π¨ π¨β¬π¨β¬β¬ π¨β¬β¬β¬π¨ β¬π©β¬π©π© β¬π©π©π©π© π©π©π©π©π© night trace about patty malty salty[/salty]

Thank you, Kerouac, and may 2024 be good to you. I just got off the phone with my baby sister in California (two hours earlier there). During the call, she got new year wishes from her daughter in England, where it was already tomorrow. It's fun to live in the modern world! All we can do is keep moving forward. I hope the coming year is rewarding and kind for all of you in this port.

Ohhh, that is very nice, nicer than my Dash!
Dash on AmazonMx was half the price it is in Germany. But if I'd had the choice between the one you got & the Dash, I'd have gotten the Venga -- stainless steel & the poacher thingies are nicer.

My petty personal trauma is that I just this minute (1:23 pm) realized that this is the last day of 2023. Another year shot to shit!

That is a rich bit of irony, considering how pitiful the train system is now in the US -- a very large country which could use a good train system. And of course that is one of Biden's goals, to build the train system up again, something the party-of-trump doesn't want because it's a damned democrat giveaway program. I guess Bluto is counting on Biden getting it done & then the orange pustule will get reelected & take the credit.

Sun is out here, too, after two messy dark wet days. It is so damp that nothing feels completely dry. Yesterday I looked at this really lovely little cut-paper piece of art I have. It's hanging on the wall in a well-made, sealed shadow box. There are little blooms of what I can only think is mold or mildew on the background! It looks like baby fingerprints in gray.

Geeez, Mark ~ you all got some use out of your flat-pack furniture! We bought bookcases from a Scandinavian store. The directions were wordless and more about showing the included pieces rather than how to assemble them. After getting them together my husband said, "Great. I just spent three hours of my life learning a skill I will never use again." That is how I have felt each and every time I put a hose reel together. I've had three or four of them and none went together in the same way.

That of course is miserable, but I'd so much rather be stranded in St. Pancras than on a train that's ground to a halt in the tunnel.
Isn't it some kind of universal rule that holidays in winter have to be ruined at least part of the time because of weather?

So very sorry to hear that, Lugg. Being sick for that long is draining and depressing. Looks as though you cooked your head off for Christmas, which I hope means that you're better.
Yesterday my son said he was going to check my grandson for covid, since the kid just wanted to snooze on the couch with the blanket over his face. Turns out that it was just a 24 hour bug.
As far as I know, I've dodged covid so far. I've had all five of the shots & will keep getting them as offered.

What a feast, Lugg!
What is that on the lower right that looks like (uncooked?!) kidney? Also, what is that just above it? Looks like filet of something or other, but I'm guessing parsnip.

True dat, but mighty Mexico City was also affected as well as Guadalajara, where I "ping" from. Working now, anyway.
Luckily, while the wifi was out I could distract myself with the four chairs I ordered on Nov. 27 which arrived today .......... unassembled.
This let to another petty personal trauma.
After the ugly surprise of getting them in pieces, I set to work putting them together. Each has only three pieces, the hardware, and instructions are easy to follow instructions. Be that as it may, the first step involves installing bolts in teardrop-shaped cutouts under the seat. They must be tightened with an allen wrench which can only move @ a half-inch at a time due to the space involved. But the real joy was that the #%&*@! wrench wouldn't work due to being too small & round instead of hexagonal. After much cursing and rummaging through the toolbox, I finally opened another chair box & used its allen wrench, which was marginally better.
There are now three chairs assembled, with the pieces of the last one awaiting my attention. My right thumb is sore and swollen from the damned little bitty wrench, so I'm resting it & having a cup of coffee.

Villeneuve-sur-Lot founded in 1254 by Alphonse, Count of Poitiers, brother of Louis IX, on the site of the town of Gajac, which had been deserted during the Albigensian Crusade, is a town and commune in the southwestern French department of Lot-et-Garonne. The Pont De La Liberation, which spans the Lot river, is a 96.2 metres (316 ft) arch bridge built between 1910 and 1919. When it was completed it was the largest single span concrete arch in the world. It was designed by Eugène Freyssinet, one of the pioneers in using reinforced concrete.

Yep! "The police helicopter report appears to have poured water over the idea of a fire ..." Of course even a small fire would have been meltingly dire for Mme. Tussaud's.

Great happy pictures, Whatagain!
The picture taken through the glass makes it look like an engagement photo -- is it?
Mrs. Whatagain has the most beautiful, open smile.
Even though Marie is leaning over, it is obvious that she is getting very tall & grown-up. And yes, they're all beauties.
I want to gobble up everything on that beautifully arranged table.
