I know and understand what you're saying Kerouac, but dealing as expertly as you did would never be achievable for your brother at that distance simply because "out of sight out of mind" syndrome. My sister did what she could but I looked after my mother every day including weekends while she was alive. It is strange but I feel I could have done so much more. But then to what cost? My family, especially my husband would have taken strain. I miss my mother so much. Especially now that I have been forced to go through ancient documents and photos to submit to HMPO in the UK. I'm nearly there.

After watching a few episodes of Keiffer Sutherland in his role as The President in Designated Survivor, we started watching Virgin River......Why?? That is not an exciting series...It's a Soap Opera of Note! And when the participants screww up every five minutes I know why I am dreaming, tossing and turning, all night! So why don't I just leave those idiots to their fate? Because I want to see them drown in their own miserable making....

OnlyMark, I like your toaster but I dont like your bread....mine has to be brown wholewheat with a sprinkle of seeds. White sliced here is like eating polystyrene or cotton wool.

A friend of mine recommended we take a look at Grace and Frankie with Jane Fonda & Lilly Tomlin. I found out that it's one of those movie series that introduces you to someone you have met before.....Lilly Tomlin with all her humming and smoke fumes wafting while in a yoga position, brought home an immediate recognition of a girlfriend I have known most of my life! In other words an old hippie.

It is made up of the fossilized shells of diatoms, which form deposits of silica. Now I know! We used to have a swimming pool filter that used diatomaceous earth - it looked like a thick pale grey sludge when removed for a new lot. These days the filters use a fine sand.

I'm having a fresh salmon fillet with a salad tonight. Do you have a preference as to what salmon you buy? I am presuming it is not Scottish salmon. Here we are offered Norwegian salmon or local Salmon Trout. Never any other kind. I go for the trout.

Dinner tonight is a mystery. We are going off to a fundraiser for Hospice. Besides all the wine, beer and spirits we are given to taste, they supply each person with a picnic box. Hope the caterers have been hard at it! I'm starving.

OK - This is how I have learned to soften the pain of peeling those hairy/fuzzy little critters... I first lob off either end saving as much flesh as possible.....sometimes they want a sharp paring knife dug into the harder end and cored like a tomoto, Then I slice three thick slices peel on. Next step is to slash a a slit in the peel and get the knife to go around as close to the peel as possible. Some allow one to pull the peel off like a ribbon but mostly have to cut with a sharp knife. In thee slices you will be all ready to enjoy. No way am I eating the peel!

Delportshoop Was originally called “Thomas Hope”, but later the name was changed to “Delport’s Hope” . The first Prosecutor was P.J. Marais. He farmed on Langberg in the region. Marais was told a story that the first diamond was found by a young man whose surname was Delport. The diamond diggers then changed it to Delport’s Hope. Later the ‘’Hope’’, became ‘’Hoop’’

Our city rubbish dump gives a lot of people a living. Until I heard how they sort out the trash and each person collects a particular item...some only glass, some plastic, etc., I used to recycle everything into separate bags. Then I used to have to take the stuff to each recycle bin myself. This meant finding the time to load it into my car and make the journey to more than one place. Then! I decided to let those who need to get money urgently by sorting garbage a chance to do just that. So from then on (20 yrs now) I throw everything (except plastic milk containers and cooldrink plastic bottles) into one trash can at home. They sort it out and collect the cash at the recycle plant. The plastic is taken to my place of business once the bag is full, to be picked up by the group that looks for trash in the city center. They collect cardboard and plastic. I'm happy and they're happy.

I missed the beginning of this discussion, and am wondering why you need a British passport, tod. Does it give you options a South African passport does not? Is it for security reasons? How serious is it if all your efforts fail? Kimby, In short we need a British Passport to travel freely and widely without the constraint of having to always apply for a Visa. South Africans cannot enter UK or Europe or USA etc. etc. without first coughing up a large fee and declaring your bank balance for 3 months and a whole lot of other mumbo jumbo. We can travel to Dubai, Singapore and a few other places without a Visa. I have no idea why they welcome us. This Visa business all started with the countries north of us - Zimbabwe for example - flooding in to South Africa illegally or legally and going to our Home Office and obtaining a South African Identity document or passport. From here it was an easy transitiuon into the UK and being lost there. So Britain put the barrier down and said 'Right, you want a holiday them cough up and give us all your pedigree"! Now that we are free agents and can travel at a moments notice, we need proper passports.
