I have never grown those because mostly I haven't lived where the climate was right for them. But I devour pictures of them. Yours are outstandingly beautiful, Lugg!

Lugg, your pics are stunning! How I lust for those hellebores!! The two tone coloring is out of this world. Here, the camellias are in full regalia and the azaleas are getting ready to burst forth. The heirloom climbing rose I put in last year is also putting out blossoms. "Peggy Martin", she's a faint pink with tiny blooms that form clusters. Very graceful and manageable on my wrought iron fence.

Wow!! So surprising to see these (Japanese iris?) especially after reading your posts about the dreadful cold yucky weather you have been having. My Meyer lemons are cranking out blooms. I missed the window of opportunity to prune them and can only hope that it won't effect my yield for the coming year. I was blessed with a bumper crop this past season. More than I have had in many years and I think that my radical pruning of them last year is the reason why they produced so many.

Mick, I think that your climate there is not conducive to growing citrus. Maybe indoors or in a greenhouse. I would consult with someone more knowledgeable in your area for advice on this. I do remember that as a child (in NY) my father had a lemon tree that he grew indoors and would move it outdoors in the summertime. I don't recall there being an abundance of lemons on it. What I recall the most was the odor of the blooms as one came down the staircase into the foyer where it was growing in a large pot. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Actually I've grown a lemon in a pot outside for about 5 years now but never had a bigger crop than about half a dozen. Tell me about pruning and feeding.

I heard that they must be pollinated by fireflies under a full moon.

Lovely Mick. My hellebores are only just starting to come up and there are buds on the quince..but things are quite late this year.

Those Iris are so lovely Mick.
Cheery... my Hellebores are finally flowering ( well about a week ago or so) but yes later than usual. The strange thing is my roses continue to bud and blossom albeit in a diluted way. I left it too late to prune my roses in the Autumn and I now have to wait until the frosts have ended. In the meantime they continue on albeit in a rather straggly way.
The snowbells are out but they have not done so well this year. As ever the bulbs of daffodils, crocus, blue bells , grape hyacinth and hyacinth are showing promise as their buds expand.

Mick, what are those flowers in the pot in the first pic? They appear to be narcissus or something in that family but, the foliage has thrown me off track.

Yes, I found it in my ancient copy of EXOTICA (a 1900 page pictorial cyclopedia of exotic plants) while trying to ID a plant I've had forever and can never give the proper botanical name of it when people ask. The hunt goes on. Anyway, the narcissus are gorgeous. I love the cup shaped blooms. Is it fragrant like other narcissus?

They are so pretty. I bought some narcissus to plant in the garden, just ordinary ones, but at least white. Two of them have bloomed and they are just boring daffodils.

What's the bloom in the last photo? I've seen something very similar-looking growing at the edge of the oak forest at the property in Italy and I've never identified it.

They really do Mick.
Lovely daffs ...my daffodils are flowering too - not sure if they will survive the weather we have at the moment - the crocus are now no more. The hyacinth may survive as they are in a well sheltered spot.

Oh, I can smell those hyacinths from here!! They grow here as an annual and have to be refridgerator for several weeks before planting. It's kind of a pain as they usually get shoved into the back and forgotten.
The first of my freesias burst open yesterday. I just love them.

My favourite flower... but I have never tried to grow them here - I must have a look to see if it is possible.
