Two more days until the Nagasaki anniversary, so you can start revving up your atomic pride. I am surprised that you get excited about the 100,000 of lives lost at Hiroshima. What about the millions who died from nuclear fall out in the ensuing years? Ghastly burns and radio active disease for years, internal and external diseases for generations. I nursed an 18 year old Japanese girl, dying from leukaemia. Her mother died in the first blast. She held no hatred or arguing back and forward...in fact she taught me to make paper cranes.

Questa, it's context. K2 was taking a sarcastic stab at me, not himself being prideful about nuclear power.

Tonight is the eve of Mexican Independence day, which marks when I moved to Oaxaca, twenty-five years ago.

World population reaches 8 billion.
It took 124 years to go from 1 to 2 billion. 2 - 3 took 31 years. 3 - 4 = 14 years. 4 - 5 = 13 years. 5 - 6 = 12 years. 6 - 7 = 12 years. 7 - 8 = 12 years.
The increase seems to have settled down. Never thought that. I was under the impression the increase would accelerate, so years get shorter. It seems not.

I thought I would post this in "Something Good..." but, it hasn't happened, yet.
Blah, Blah, Blah just won't do either.
So, today, 9 concrete trucks are scheduled to arrive at our homestead to pump 2,000 (or thereabouts) square feet of concrete thus a FOUNDATION for our new home.
The weather is beautiful, and we are so excited!!
(Fingers crossed, big time!!!)

Here's hoping the trucks arrive, the weather stays good and the house building finally starts, Casi. That sounds like a big house.

Thanks, good people!! I just posted a real lengthy reply and then in the midst of it my cat pounced on my keyboard and the post vanished. It was quite the production and went off without a hitch save one psycho neighbor, a miserable creature with way too much time on her hands. She has caused us (including the construction crew) umpteen problems ever since the fire and has taken up so much space in my head that we have had to take legal action because we realized a while back that she wasn't going to stop. The crew arrived at 5:30 a.m. which is why I was up so early. They were there all morning, and it was a gorgeous day. Yes BJD, it is a fair-sized house in the style of a Carribean/Creole cottage with a center hall, one story and a half (the upstairs has a guest bedroom and full-sized bath, along with a living area that could be used as a den or dayroom. Beautiful cathedral ceilings. A huge kitchen, pantry, and dining area, living room, two bedrooms (one a master bedroom and adjacent bathroom), the other a guest room and a small bathroom). The best feature is a wraparound screened in porch overlooking the back garden. There is also a L-shaped front porch. (a utility room and spacious closet space along with a storage area, gotta have a space to hoard! ) It will also be raised on concrete pilings, so we never have to haul a sandbag(s) ever again!!!

Thank you, Mick! You are most certainly on the list of invitees. (As the date is of course uncertain right now, when it gets closer, I will have by then decided which succulent from your collection my heart desires )
