Very few old people remain progressive. And even if he remained British, he would have been a Brexiter for sure.

He might have been but he would have hated Trump with a vengeance. I doubt that Biden would have done much for him either. Maybe Bernie.

Today is the 11th anniversary of Barack Obama getting the Nobel Peace Prize.
It is also the day the Donald Trump lost out on the Nobel to the UN’s World Food Programme.

It's not nice to say such things, but I don't think I would have liked to see John Lennon at age 80. I imagine him as a naturalised American, probably supporting Trump. No way, Lennon was always a dyed in the wool lefty and unique for the band quite political. It would take senile dementia for him to ever become a Trumper.

Question? What did John Lennon and Nelson Mandela have in common?
Answer: They both made their own beds in the morning upon rising. John Lennon did this to the surprise of the staff at the Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town, and Nelson Mandela continued to make up his bed even after being released from Robin island.

I tend to agree with you on this Patrick. Much more indicative of his personality throughout his career and spilling over into his personal life.

There’s an American Masters episode from 2010 re-airing on PBS about John Lennon “LENNONNYC” that focuses on his career post Beatles and his activism. Yoko Ono features prominently. www.pbs.org/video/american-masters-lennonyc/

Todaybis 70th anniversary of the victorious war from china against USA. I dont get it all. Firstly China helped North Korea which was the agressor against brother south Kirea. Secind, USA was not alone, UN troops were involved : australians, brits, french even a contingent of belgians Third itvwas not really a victory and if it was it was a pirrhic one. But for China it is a victory if democracy against evil imperialist USA. Propaganda can have some interesting twists.

Isn't the war still in progress? (No peace treaty ever signed.)

A bittersweet day for us. Today my husband and I celebrate our 35 year wedding anniversary. It also commemorates the 10 year anniversary of my Mother's death. (Incorporated into this is my gratitude to Bixa (along with a couple of others) who was a major "player" in my getting together with my husband. A "cupid" of sorts you might say.)

Goodness Casimira what a feight! There are not many of us left who have known our husbands longer than their parents! In December it's our Golden. But I know him longer than that. So your dear mom passed on one of your anniversaries….sorry about that. Congratulations on your anniversary both of you!

Happy happy happy day to the two of you! And yes, very impressive, especially considering that y'all have been together longer than the official 35 years. It is sad to think that your Silver anniversary will always be associated with the loss of your dear mother, but she surely smiles on your Coral (or jade) celebration. ❤️

Will you be doing anything special to celebrate the anniversary, casimira? It is more difficul to find reasons for celebration these days.

Thank you so much!
Yes Bixa, we lived together for 7 years before officially getting married. And, most certainly have weathered many challenges together. I like to think that the joys have outweighed the sorrows.
Tod, although my Mothers death did happen on our 25th (Silver) anniversary and it did bother me that it was on the same day, I have come to accept it more and look at it as a celebration of her long life and her dying peacefully in her own home, on her own terms. She had told me just weeks before that she was "ready" and not afraid to die.
Kerouac, we went out for lunch at one of our favorite restaurants and had a lovely meal al fresco. It was very civilized and comfortable with safe social distancing etc. Afterwards, we strolled through the relatively newly installed sculpture garden in City Park. Their creative placement of Art Deco sculptures from the WPA era is amazing. NOLA sculpture artist Enrique Alferez is prominently featured along with some other noteworthy sculpture artists.
All in all, it was a very lovely day.

That sounds lovely and perfect!
Did you happen to notice if there were any Angela Gregory pieces in the garden?

That sounds lovely and perfect! Did you happen to notice if there were any Angela Gregory pieces in the garden?Bixa, we really didn't linger in the Sculpture Garden for very long. T was more intent on looking at the Alferez pieces as several of them had not been publicly displayed anywhere before. I am very familiar with Ms. Gregory's work and have seen a few of them exhibited in other places (Newcomb College had a show of her work @ 10 or so years ago.) She was more than a trailblazer and her life and career utterly fascinating. Wednesdays is free admission for NOLA residents so, we plan to go on one of those days when there are hopefully less people and we can take in more of this brilliant new addition to the Botanical Garden.

Ohhh, I would so much love to see the Botanical Garden again, especially with the new addition! Not to nag, but if you don't currently own a camera, remember that your phone has one and that your pictures would be received here with joy.

The very first photo of my mother and stepfather that I have was taken in Audobon Park, when they were courting at a safe distance from our hometown.

Ninety one years ago was Black Tuesday, when America’s Great Depression began, as stock prices collapsed.
BTW, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has lost over 1700 points (3.4%) in the past three days.

40 years since the actor Steve McQueen died (age 50), not the British director (age 51) who is alive and well.
