What's a library?
Finally some decent weather. It had been very cool. Will be about 17 or 18 today, and up to 20 soon. Still cool for May, but at least I can contemplate doing some balcony gardening. Our muguet is late but now is really taking off. I'm headed out to shop soon. One of the problems one doesn't think of is that very few public or semi-public (as in stores) toilets are open, which can really be a problem. I'll have one coffee before I set out, but that is it.

Well, I just went to the library. It's really small but the new bigger one's opening has been postponed to July. Wearing the mask was really unpleasant. I used the one the city gave me yesterday: it's 65% polyester and my face immediately felt hot. Extremely unpleasant. I'll have to haul out my sewing machine and make a cotton one for the rare times I will need it.
Very few people here wear masks outside. But then again, the streets are not crowded and we just went for a walk in the woods, so even fewer people. Meanwhile, schools are closed for older kids and all the teenagers are hanging around in groups with no masks and no social distancing. Still gray and cloudy today but slightly warmer than yesterday: 18° right now.

In a city as densely populated as Paris, it makes some sense to require facemasks outdoors, whereas in a smaller or more rural area, it would make no sense at all to require them.

After some sunny but cool days the weather will start to get warmer again by the end of the weekend into next week.

We had steady rain all night here.
I am thrilled! No watering to do, rain barrel full, and, the fish in the pond and the frogs and toads are happy too!

It is still sunny and not particularly warm in Paris, albeit acceptable. This week, I have needed to return a blanket to my bed since I refuse to use a duvet at this time of year.

It's cloudy and very humid right now. I slept with the balcony doors open last night. Today as the temperatures rise it's going to be downright muggy. No breeze.
The air very thick and "close".

After a cloudy morning, the wind started to blow and has cleared away most of the clouds. Sunny and about 20°C.

After a quick glance at my phone I see we have reached our max of 25C - checking Paris I see Kerouac is experiencing 19C but is expected to hit a high of 21C any minute. Thats if my phone predictions are correct of course!

Depending on which site I consult, it's either 68 or 69 (20 0r 20.5) right now (10:30 pm), but I still find it hot in the house. That's leftover heat from today, with was 91.4/33, plus it's humid outside -- 87%

That's what we did this morning. It was beautiful and sunny (still is, 24° at the moment). Lots of surfers in the water, a few swimmers. We went for a long walk as we usually do. In any case, there were patrols to make sure people were moving and not just sitting on the sand. This is the beach but this morning there were fewer people than on this picture:

That looks positively heavenly BJD!! I am so envious!
What I wouldn't do to be in a place like that right now.
(I never did catch where it is that you moved to after leaving Toulouse).
Yesterday was downright hot and humid here. Especially indoors towards the later part of the afternoon.
This morning it is cloudy and a tad muggy. A slight chance for some showers intermittently throughout the day.
Temperatures in the high 70F's close to 80F as the day progresses.

The weather in Paris is absolutely delightful at the moment. Unfortunately, being stuck in Paris with all of the good things closed is not delightful at all.

Absolutely so envious bjd what a lovely beach. Here its weird very high winds but not associated with a storm - my garden is being wrecked, will see what I can do to prop up flowers tomorrow but my gorgeous roses have taken a real pounding and my everlasting sweet pea is strewn around the garden.

OH NO!!! That must be awful Lugg. All the tender loving care you have given them.
The heat and humidity have really set in. It's that time of year I'm afraid...
AC's being run by most. We're likely the only ones on the block and beyond who are braving it out.
Close to 90F yesterday, 70F's at night.
More of the same today...

30° on Thursday, 27° on Friday, a bit cooler today but still warm. There have been a few brief showers from time to time, but I would like some nice heavy rain. While the pigeon shit was just about completely washed off one of my attic windows last week, now I have new pigeon shit on the other window, and it needs more than a tiny shower to disappear.

A howling gale here most of the day. My garden looks like a war zone. I’ll try to put it all back together tomorrow.

I have seen no news of wind for France, but if you had it in Blighty, it should appear here tomorrow -- not necessarily in Paris, though.

Utterly lovely here. A bit cool yesterday - high of 22c - but will be at least 28 and perhaps 30 today. Also very low humidity; I love hot, dry days as were common in Perugia (which, being atop a high hill, has good cool sleeping weather as well). I'm going to a nearby Italian caffè here to get an espresso - we have to drink them outside but they have benches - I'll go fairly soon as I cycled past late yesterday morning and there was already a compact herd of men NOT practising social distancing. A young couple now owns the local laundrette and madame is producing pretty masks in pure cotton. I don't wear mine cycling; there is not such crowding where I live, but do wear it shopping and will have to wear it at our lovely, spacious branch library where alas I can't wander round the stacks or sit in the lounge area with the periodicals (and where there is a gas fireplace in cooler weather). We are also allowed to drink tea or coffee there. Or rather, were... montreal.ca/lieux/bibliotheque-marc-favreauGawd, I need a haircut.

Continuous rain accompanied by a flood watch is keeping the Social-distancing at the Beach and Pool discussions to a minimum. Oh, drat! I hadn’t realized you had all that weather down there, and it looks like we’ll be getting some of it up here in North Florida this week, too. Right now the weather here is fine, but our building is in the process of being reroofed, so not a good time to have lots of rain. At least the company the condo board has hired has a good reputation and is experienced. Hopefully they’ll deal with the rain showers and only work on small sections at a time. I don’t need any NEW leaks in my unit!

Everyday the same….Bright sunshine, blue sky, no wind. We are making the most of this perfect autumn weather because not far off is a prediction of bitter cold weather. Then not long into the future is the unbearable heat. Wish we could capture this idil forever.

I'm curious tod, what would you consider bitter cold in your corner of ZA?
|
|
|
Post by tod2 on May 25, 2020 15:55:23 GMT
We get pretty cold because the city lies in a hollow with several hills surrounding us. As you know heat rises and cold air drops hence we suffer a little more than surrounding areas. June is the coldest month in Pietermaritzburg, with an average high-temperature of 22°C (71.6°F) and an average low-temperature of 3°C (37.4°F).

Very warm here...our property is in a built up area...a sprawl of housing estates and industrial units...so it tends to be slightly hotter than less densely built up areas. Its 25°C in the shade in the garden atm.
