This morning it was clear and 0° here. We had to scrap the frost off the car windows to drive to Bayonne. It's less than 40 km away but it was 11° when we got there and it was sunny and 17° when we left in the afternoon. Just a beautiful day even though it was a few degrees cooler here.

Pleasantly mild temperatures here. A warming trend very much welcome after all the "rude" weather of the last two weeks. Up to near 70F forecast for today.

It's now 3° cooler than it was this morning (only 8°C) and we have strong gusts of wind, repeated downpours of rain and just now, some hail came banging down. The forecast for the next week is not wonderful either.

Sounds awful BJD. Is there a noticeable difference in the climate where you are now vs. Toulouse?
Raining here but not cold so it's bearable and the garden could really use it.

The weather in Paris is pretty shitty, but in reality totally normal January weather. It rained for about 3 hours in the early morning hours but by the time I went out, it was actually partially sunny. In a day or two we might get snow again, woo hoo! If it's going to be winter, it might as well be REAL winter.

Casi, since we are directly west of Toulouse, the climate is similar but more ocean-influenced, so not as hot in summer, with usually a breeze in the afternoon/evening. It's just a bit less extreme. But as Kerouac says, it's winter so lousy weather is normal. Although on Tuesday we went to Bayonne and it was 17° and sunny, even though they get more rain than we do usually because of the Pyrenees mountains just nearby.

It is -8C here currently, cloudy skies that brighten now and again with the hope of clearing away. We got about 10 cm of snow yesterday so everything is beautifully bright white again. It has been a good winter so far, nothing extreme, just the way I like it!

This weekend is Australia Day. It is also the first day we have had over 38 C all summer. They forecast 40 C but the air has that burning quality about it you get when it is ridiculously hot.

They forecast 40 C but the air has that burning quality about it you get when it is ridiculously hot. I know just what you are describing Questa. I felt that hot burning air when I took a guided tour of The Lava Tubes. That's the day I stripped off the bra, and wore my T-Shirt soaking wet. It worked wonderfully. Today here we are going up to 33C by noon. For me another day spent inside with the aircon on full blast.

Now you know why wet T-shirt competitions are so popular among the nubile wenches of Oz...well, I THINK that is the reason...

Now you know why wet T-shirt competitions are so popular among the nubile wenches of Oz...well, I THINK that is the reason... Are they popular among the nubile wenches or the guys leering at them? If you want to be wet, just stand outside here today. It has been raining all day. Maybe not warm enough for tshirts though.

It has been very cold today, had a bit of snow but it had been raining yesterday so most of it didn't settle. It was really icy this morning so I had a pj day....did lots of baking.

Another scorcher today. At 5.30 we went outside and sat in a cool breeze. I cut Mr.Tods hair and then had a wonderful swim in what I think was 28C water - could be even higher. I am praying for 24C tomorrow and rain.

The South African weather Service has issued a Level 10 warning for eastern parts of the country as Cyclone Eloise makes landfall in Mozambique. I dont think if will cause flooding here but you never know. They say the gale force winds may blow garden furniture around and advise us to put it indoors.

The snow in Paris only lasted for about 20 minutes. Cyclone Eloise makes landfall in Mozambique. I dont think if will cause flooding here but you never know. Does South Africa never get cyclones? I know that Réunion does since it is part of our national news.

Gosh that is a question Kerouac. One I can't answer as if we do, or have had them in the past, they always seem to come roaring in from the area around Madagascar and hits Mozambique. This results in us getting the fringe of the storm but chaos does ensue in the form of flooding. Very bad flooding. Oh, wait just one minute. I remember some years ago we had a bad cyclone hit the lower Drakensburg area. That was winds that ripped everything apart. Sort of tornadolike.

And, we had just talked about this recently when I was whining about the hurricane season here. Sure enough, within just a few days I saw news of this weather event announced. Here it became incredibly warm. Downright balmy with temperatures up to 70F. Very pleasant and most welcome.

The edges of Cyclone Eloise can be seen on video that shows the very very full Olifants River in Kruger Park. Switching over occasionally to Tembe Elephant Park, it was hosing down most of the day and I think we are in for some mud restling elephants soon.

I went for a long walk this morning because the sun was out, not a very common occurence at this time of year. Now the sun is gone and rain is on the way.

I awoke to thick fog with very limited visibility. It's slowly lifting and the temperature is quite warm. Hovering just under 70F with a few thunderstorms forecasted throughout the day.

It was really nice here this afternoon. Went for a long sunny walk too. It even felt too warm although my thermometer shows only 12°. But now it is clouding over and I guess we will get more rain later or tomorrow.

Yesterday lots of rain at times and cool. Today has got much hotter than anticipated and no rain as predicted. I have to let the weather man off a tad as he did say only 40% chance of rain.

Raining tonight. But it did not seem to rain during the day even though the streets remained wet all day. I suppose that it is a winter phenonmenon when the humidity remains close to 100%.

The warming trend that we were enjoying here of late ended as a cold front moved through. Temperatures plummeted from the upper 60-70F's down into the 40F's with high winds. At least the sun is out so it isn't too bad. I do feel badly for my friends who escaped to Pensacola for the month expecting warm beach weather. The temperature went down to the mid 30F's there. Not at all what they had hoped for and were ill prepared in terms of not having enough warm clothing etc.
