I’ll take some of your heat folks. Still cold and rainy here in MT. I imagine you’ve all heard about the destructive flooding that has closed Yellowstone National park this week. They are saying the northern part of the park may not be reopened at all this year!

It was 36° in the evening yesterday, overnight it went down to 22° but at 9:30 am it's already nearly 25°. Forecast for today and tomorrow is about 40°. I really hate this kind of heat and feel locked in the house because going outside is so unpleasant.
Adding at 4:30, it's 38°.

Damn ~ that is hot! I complained my way through a couple of weeks of excess heat here a week or so ago, but it never got that bad. Do you have AC?
It's sunny out right now, which is lovely after several gloomy days in a row.

It's difficult to do anything outdoors. Is your heat also accompanied by high humidity BJD? Here it is which makes it feel even hotter.

No, it's not nearly as humid here as it was in Canada but it is a bit muggy. It's just too hot, especially for June. It was 39° today and now, at nearly 10pm it's still 33°.
We actually do have air conditioning in our heating system but we are having trouble getting the installer come and maintain and clean the system. It hasn't been done for 2 years now and last time we put on just the dehumidifier, we had a ton of mosquitoes come out. So we just keep everything closed except in the morning when we open it all to cool down the house. We also have shutters which keep the sun out, even though I don't like living like a mole.

We actually do have air conditioning in our heating system but we are having trouble getting the installer come and maintain and clean the system. It hasn't been done for 2 years now and last time we put on just the dehumidifier, we had a ton of mosquitoes come out. Sounds like you maybe have a blocked drain line for the condensate and it created a pool of water large enough for mosquitos to breed in. The AC unit isn’t manufacturing mosquitos, so their numbers should drop to zero after awhile of running. But you need to get that drain line running again before you have worse problems than a few mosquitos, like water damage to your house, depending on where the drain pan is located. Mr. Kimby pours vinegar down our AC drain pipe in Florida to keep it running clear. (I do the same with the dishwasher drain line.) We built our Montana house without AC. In 1985, pre-global warming, there was no need. Now we live like you do in the hottest part of summer: we open the house up all night to the cool air and close the windows before the outside temperature rises in the morning. This works for us because of our low humidity. Night temps ALWAYS drop to sweater weather. On rare occasions we have used a box fan to move the air in the bedroom. If the climate keeps getting hotter, we may have to change the ceiling light to a ceiling fan.

Kimby, we don't have a traditional a/c unit. We have a heat pump that heats in winter and cools in summer, if we turn it on. There is a large split in the attic with air vents over the different rooms. So there is no liquid circulating. When I called again the other day, the guy who promised he would send someone to deal with it said the filters have to be cleaned/changed.
And I know that when the technician came regularly, he would spray some kind of product into the airvents to clean any bacteria/bugs or whatever. We looked for a similar product online but it's something only available to professionals.

My air conditioner is doing the best it can, even though it has an outlet through one of the old chimneys. But "northern Europe" aircon is only good up to about 30° whereas "southern Europe" aircon is designed to fight higher temperatures (but probably not 40°).
I went to a movie this morning with excellent air conditioning to the extent that I almost felt cold (which doesn't really bother me). It took at least half an hour on the hot bus for me to start sweating again.

This afternoon it was 42°. Then around 5 pm, the wind got really strong and you could just see the temperature dropping on the thermometer. In about half an hour, it had dropped 10°, then by 6:30, it was 27. Really strange. It's now 25 but although there was a bit of thunder, we really need some rain -- the plants in the garden are all drooping, even those I had watered early this morning.

We saw ominous clouds gathering as we ate lunch on our deck in the piney forest, listening to the creek babble and watching yellow warblers zipping back and forth to their nest. Minutes after we went inside, the sky opened up and BIG hail (about 1") started falling. Our cars are normally garaged, but because we had our driveway re-paved yesterday, my Subaru was parked on the street, vulnerable to hail damage. So I had to run out and rescue her. Of course, the hail had virtually stopped by the time I pulled into the garage. Now I'm watching anxiously to see if the baby yellow warblers are still being tended to by their doting parents.

All these fun times in the weather are brought to you by (drum roll)...La Nina! (boos offstage) .She is the one who brings rain and floods, early monsoons and failed crops in S E Asia. I heard on PR this morning that we will get another cycle of La Nina next few months until her brother, El Nino Wakes up, and dries us to a crisp
Yay ! (waves flag listlessly)

We are having a dawn thunderstorm about 12 hours ahead of schedule. I'm not complaining. This afternoon it was 42°. Then around 5 pm, the wind got really strong and you could just see the temperature dropping on the thermometer. Southwest France got something called a coup de galerne and lost 20° in two hours. Brittany also got the same thing where it is called gwalarn.

It was 20° overnight, which normally I find warm to sleep but it felt cool! Cloudy and windy this morning but still no rain. When I look at one of those weather sites that shows cloud movements, they seem to veer northward as they approach the coast. So no thunderstorm, no rain but at least it's cooler.

After the heat of Friday I can’t believe how cold it went yesterday. It dropped to 14 in the afternoon and I had 2 jumpers on.
Storms and heavy rain last night so no need to water the garden this morning.

I have not used my air conditioner in two days, although I am a bit tempted in the afternoon. But I have a fan that works very well when I sit directly across from it.
When I made a quick trip to Monoprix this afternoon, I found myself in conversation with Fatima, the bench lady. I had not seen her for a few days during the worst heat, but today she was there alone and clearly in need of a converstion since her usual coterie was not present. She told me how relieved she was that the temperatures have dropped. While she said this, I examined her tightly worn hijab around her head and neck and her usual long robe, long sleeved of course. "Yes, it was tough last week," I agreed. "After all, this isn't Djerba!" (I know that she is from Djerba.) She told me about taking the bus during the worst of the heat and seeing people collapsing in the street "everywhere." (Why wasn't this on the news?) I wanted to ask her if they were all wearing heavy clothes covering their head and everything else, but I refrained.

Another scorching hot day. Excessive heat warnings being issued throughout the area.
The news here is covering it, not only NOLA but areas throughout the US. Many, many homeless people dying by the hundreds particularly in the Southwest states.
The heat index here for today is 113F.

18° this morning, cool and showery weather forecast for today. Quite a change from last Saturday when we hit 42° in the afternoon.
Our neighbour's daughter and her family have arrived from Montreal. They were planning to marry a couple of years ago, but Covid got in the way. Our neighbour is quite talented and has spent months preparing decorations with a sea theme, yesterday I think they were setting things up at the place they rented. I hope after all this time and expectation, they don't get rained on although I see the first drops falling now.

From drought to deluges here. I'm hoping that the weather will prevent at least some of the fireworks, firecrackers etc. which freak out our animals.

It has been pleasant these past few days but hot, dry weather predicted again for the coming weekend and following days. We have to go away for a week and I can imagine my garden drying up in the heat.
