Just another reason for us to feel bad about ourselves...we already know that all the shiny came off years ago. Whatever made this country 'great' in the past...tradition, 'standards', dependability etc has been sucked dry by 'our' greedy and devious lazy politicians.
I don't see how the monarchy can survive with any integrity when this sort of nonsense is given prominence at a time when our rights are being eroded and many of us are having to choose between heating our homes or buying food.

I think a degenerate royal family has a significant share of responsibility. "Never complain, never explain" is hardly a good example for a nation in great need of real explanations and with huge reasons to complain. And they think that pomp and ceremony, accepting bouquets from little girls and shaking hands in care homes will put people back to sleep?

HRH Anne, where are you? Your country needs a good 'no nonsense' woman with a riding crop to straighten out the mess.

Because he is a smiling mindless zombie doing everything he is told. Of course the whole family has been genetically engineered to do that.

He might come over like that but underneath he is caring and very intelligent. When ever we publicly see the Royals they are on duty… so their demeanour may be as you describe.

They should just get a job instead of being media marionnettes who have to be perfect all the time. At least there are some broken ones to spice up the hairdresser magazines. Meanwhile, I can't blame Harry for not wanting Camilla in the family. I think it is a perfectly normal reaction concerning someone who was directly responsible for the divorce of one's parents and indirectly responsible for the death of a little boy's mother. We outsiders can see the grand picture and make all sorts of excuses for the concerned parties (or not), but when you feel that your own life was wrecked by situations like this, I can see why Harry doesn't give a flying fuck about what his family thinks of him now.
Unfortunately I am not privy to the personal details you seem to have about William

Me either Kerouac. I have never heard him speak about anything even remotely pertinent or intelligent. He seems to take particular delight in his children's antics which is fine up to a point but c'mon already.
On another note, I took great delight in reading that Nelson Mandela's granddaughter slammed the Sussexes for their ungracious behavior, referring to them in the context of ungrateful, self-serving, entitled brats.

Considering how H&M bleat on about their own precious privacy they seem to have very little regard for that of H's family, little sneak. It's difficult not to get drawn in. I'm not a fan of the royals but the longer they stay silent the more respect I have for them. Not that I have much to start with I'm sure that they are all very nice people..inasmuch as one can be when raised from birth to think that you are somehow better/more important than 'normal' folk. There are too many of them and they have too much imo. The king, queen consort, the Prince of Wales and his missis and the princess royal should be enough to open a few civic buildings and attend the odd banquet. Maybe host a few visiting dignitaries...sod the rest of them. We are all cutting back and going without...we certainly shouldn't be supporting the extended royal family in luxury.

Right now the royals need to buy the whole UK off by a) exiling all Conservatives, especially those currently "serving" in government to some distant uninhabited island far away from shipping lanes; and b) either issue generous vouchers for heating/electricity bills or stop charging altogether until the economy is more stable.
They need to support themselves with the properties they have seized or acquired over the centuries.

They need to support themselves with the properties they have seized or acquired over the centuries. I think almost all those properties should be put in the hands of the National Trust and turned into publicly-accessible parks and museums. A small entrance fee perhaps to help with maintenance of the museums, but the extensive grounds should be open to the public.

They need to support themselves with the properties they have seized or acquired over the centuries. They do: about 25% of the income from the Crown Estates goes toward running the Head of State job (the rest goes into general government income). Private/personal spending comes from the private properties and investments.

Bjd, I would think the entrance fee would have to be significant in order to maintain some of those places.
From what you say, Patrick, what those properties generate contributes quite a lot to the general fund?

I think if entrance fees to parks are too high, then a lot of people, especially families with several kids, can't afford to go there. The royals have enough that they could subsidize, especially since they places have been treated as their private property for centuries. And for the state, green areas are beneficial to health and well-being of the population.

Bjd, I would think the entrance fee would have to be significant in order to maintain some of those places. From what you say, Patrick, what those properties generate contributes quite a lot to the general fund? About £300 million. www.thecrownestate.co.uk/en-gb/media-and-insights/news/the-crown-estate-announces-3127-million-net-revenue-profit-for-202122/About £85 million goes on the cost of running the Head of State function. There are, separately, the estates of the Duchy of Lancaster (which are held in trust for the sovereign) and the Duchy of Cornwall (set up to support the heir), each generating about £23/24 million surplus last year. As for access to parkland, that's been the case at Windsor, Balmoral and Sandringham for quite some time, and some tours of Buckingham Palace include the garden.

Poem courtesy of John Phillips: "I [CAN NOT] recommend this book, It's about a man Trying to make as much cash as he can From spilling the beans and dishing the dirt With no regard for who it will hurt It's everyone's fault but never his own He's had a life of privilege but does nothing but moan He shamelessly uses his mother's name Ms Markle's used him to find fortune and fame He plays the race card when it comes to his wife Has fled these shores for a more private life Loves Oprah, Netflix and being on TV He will talk to anyone for a large enough fee I don't know about you but I'm sick of it all I think it's time his father gave him a call And gave him the news he was no longer Royal We can't give titles to people who aren't loyal Let's see how he does with an ordinary name Just plain Harry Windsor, things won't be the same Why can't he shut up and go live his life Make my New Year and sod off with his wife.”

I'm just hoping that Harry can get the whole system to collapse like it did in the republics. I do admit that I am amazed at how the royal supportsrs feel so threatened by Markle; they give her far too much credit for messing up a system that they messed up first.

None of us need to actually read the book since we will be informed of every interesting bit in it. That is too bad for Harry because I saw on television today that he is due to receive USD 5 for every book sold once the (huge) initial fees have been covered. Somethng tells me that it will be a worldwide bestseller, though, so that should not be a problem.

He got a nice contract then since there is also a ghostwriter and authors usually receive only 10% of sales. I don't know the selling price but he is certainly doing well with $5 a book.
