Australian singer Helen Reddy has died. Her voice will live on...

I didn't realize she was Australian but I do remember that song well. They overplayed it in my opinion and to the best of my knowledge it was really a one hit wonder for her. She kind of fell off the radar it seems.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Helen_Reddy_songsNote: she SANG all these songs, but did not write them all Reddy skyrocketed to stardom with “I Am Woman,” a song she co-wrote with Ray Burton and released in 1971, before re-recording the now-familiar version one year later. Written primarily because she could not find a suitable song that reflected how she felt being a woman in a changing world, “I Am Woman” became an anthem for the bourgeoning woman’s movement. “I realized that the song I was looking for didn’t exist, and I was going to have to write it myself,” she told Billboard writer Fred Bronson. The performance earned her Best Female Vocalist at the 1973 Grammy Awards, where she famously remarked to loud applause, “I would like to thank God because she makes everything possible.” Though Reddy never repeated the songwriting level of “I Am Woman,” she had tremendous success on the charts with other writers’ material, including “Delta Dawn,” “Angie Baby,” and “Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress).” She also dabbled in acting and was a host of her own TV series “The Helen Reddy Show”

What shocks me the most in the video is remembering fashion from the early 1970's. Thank god it is in black and white or I might have to scratch out my eyes.

I don't think that the outfit she is wearing is as bad as it could have been with other atrocities of that era. White "Go Go" boots and some other then fashionable trendy garb in particular.

I prefer to shut up about voices that I hate. Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Amy Winehouse... the list is endless. But I think we all have lists like that that we don't talk about when we know that we are in the minority.

DE GUSTIBUS NON EST DISPUTANDUM (originated in French literature in the early 19th century although the sentiment behind it is much older)

I had completely missed that re Johnny Nash dying. I always think of him in terms of lesser known track, Tears On My Pillow

Truly legendary!!! I always associate him with Stevie Winwood and what a powerful influence he was to so many other classic musicians.

Unsurprisingly, I became heartily sick of Mr. Bojangles a looooong time ago, but who doesn't love ol' Jerry Jeff. RIP

Never a fan of country music, I was rather indifferent although it is a shame that he died of Covid, just like too many other people.

I was never a country music fan, but he was a pioneer. In more ways than one.
Reading the tributes, I realized he’d been a baseball player in Montana’s Pioneer League teams in Missoula and Helena before becoming a country star.
“In 1960, Pride and his wife Rozene mortgaged their furniture to pay for the drive with their infant son, from Memphis to Montana, and a stint with the Missoula Timberjacks of the Pioneer League.
“After three games with the Timberjacks I was released, but manager Nick Mariana told me about a couple semi-pro teams in Helena...”
