Mrs Cactus was lucky enough to see her live at Wembley Stadium many years ago.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! That was unexpected! A friend of mine just saw the Tina Turner show in London in March. Tina Turner was incredibly talented, a great performer, a great beauty, a great lady, and just totally beyond cool.

I can't hear the SOUND on any of these videos. On both the YouTube screen and on your computer there is a MUTE control. If the sound is muted, you will see a little x next to the little loudspeaker icon. You just click on it to unmute. And both YouTube and your computer have a sliding volume button that can also be useful.

I thought it a complaint that there weren’t any Tina Turner videos.

Astrud Gilberto has died. We all know her and have heard her a thousand times even if we didn't know her name. Age 83.

RIP pianist George Winston. From his Facebook page: We are deeply saddened to share the news that George Winston has passed on after a 10-year battle with cancer. George quietly and painlessly left this world while asleep on Sunday, June 4, 2023. George courageously managed serious cancers, including having a successful bone marrow transplant for Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) in 2013 at City of Hope, in Duarte, California, that gratefully extended his life by 10 years. Throughout his cancer treatments, George continued to write and record new music, and he stayed true to his greatest passion: performing for live audiences while raising funds for Feeding America to help fight the national hunger crisis along with donating proceeds from each of his concerts to local food banks. Across an illustrious career spanning more than 50 years, George’s music first became known and loved by his fans with the release of his two most iconic albums, Autumn (1980) and December (1982). George's recordings evolved with the times while garnering a GRAMMY Award for Forest (plus five GRAMMY nominations) and selling over 15 million albums. George touched the hearts of generations with his acclaimed solo acoustic piano compositions. From his early days in Montana, Mississippi and Florida, to his later life living in the San Francisco Bay Area and touring to cities worldwide, America’s beautiful landscapes and natural seasons shaped his singular instrumental folk piano. With 16 solo piano albums to his name, George recorded brilliant piano music, which includes tribute recordings for Vince Guaraldi, The Doors, a Hurricane Katrina relief benefit, Gulf Coast and Louisiana Wetlands benefits, September 11 benefit, a cancer research benefit for City of Hope, the Peanuts episode “This Is America Charlie Brown: The Birth Of The Constitution,” among others. George’s legacy includes his beloved catalog as well as an archive of his own acoustic guitar and harmonica recordings, and albums by an array of Hawaiian slack key artists on his own record label, Dancing Cat Records. George is pre-deceased by his parents, George and Mary Winston, and is survived by his sister, niece and nephew. The family of George Winston will hold a private memorial service. Jane Birkin died today, age 76. She was an actress and singer. She was married to singer and composer Serge Gainsbourg from 1968 to 1980. RIP Jane.

Oh wow. That is very big news in French speaking countries. I knew she was in poor health but I didn't expect this, at least not as long as Françoise Hardy is hanging on.

I always thought her fame came from being with Gainsbourg. Her singing voice was awful -- thin and reedy.

She became a bigger star than Gainsbourg in my book. He wrote fantastic songs but couldn't sing and was a pretty disgusting person. And I saw her in Antonioni's Blow Up before I ever even heard of Serge Gainsbourg. The RTBF must have been expecting this because they have already produced a very complete illustranted biography: Mort de Jane Birkin à l’âge de 76 ans
I saw her on stage a number of times, notably in Patrice Chéreau's production of La Fausse Suivante, which was her first time on stage in 1985. Everybody thought that Chéreau was crazy because Birkin did not at all have a theatrical voice, but her performance was brilliant. I also saw her in concert once in the suburbs, convinced to go by a friend, and I didn't regret it.

Well, you're out of touch, Kerouac. Tony Bennett had a career resurgence @10 years ago when he teamed with Lady Gaga -- & kept on working. But even before that he had so many younger artists wanting to work with him. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duets_II_(Tony_Bennett_album)

Tony Bennett was also known for taking walks in Central Park, setting up his easel, and painting on a daily basis. At least until he began to descend further into dementia. I think he lived near the south end of the park.
