Vienna is a beautiful city. I can give you an address of a Chinese restaurant to avoid ... Hopefully next September I can ask you for that restaurant advice.

I should be on a flight right now to Vienna. But now I also feel guilty for feeling sad about it, I should concentrate on being grateful that we are healthy. I am thankful that at least we have a lifetime credit for the full amount from Air Canada. And I should be in Peru, with my sister now...postponed till September 2021. US Embassy is STILL “repatriating” Americans from Peru. Over 13K so far.

We could have travelled, our flight did depart, but we would be required to quarantine for 14 days when we returned, that was not practical. I will remain hopeful for next September. Kimby that sounds like an amazing holiday with your sister, I hope it works out for you in 2021 as well. And I keep looking to see if Southeast Asia is reopening to France, but no.... Were you planning on travelling to Southeast Asia this fall Kerouac?

I feel for you all , my Maldives trip was also postponed. I have not re-booked as waiting to see how the situation unfolds over the coming months. Anyway I have had a few short UK breaks instead - lovely and making me appreciate what is on my doorstep. But my petty trauma relates to my last one - I had sorted my photos of seals into good and erase; unfortunately I threw away the good by mistake

It is so easy to do...and so devastating when it happens! Some places can retrieve them but it is not cheap.I looked through all my South Island of beautiful NZ then a tremor of my hand too close to the DEL and I lost the lot.

It seems like so many of us had travel plans that were thwarted this summer/fall. Our trip to NY was stymied by the threat of possible hurricane/tropical storm activity here and f'd up flight schedules. I just found out this morning that one of my childhood friends who lives in West Palm Beach was up there visiting at the same time we were planning to go. We could have provided him lodging in my childhood home that that was vacated by summertime tenants for the last time just after Labor Day weekend. A place he and I spent many, many good times together.

It happens every time! The other day I was thinking "it's been at least 8 months since the last mouse. Maybe with the new roof, the problem has finally been solved once and for all." I immediately thought that I shouldn't have thought that because every time I think the problem has ended, I immediately find a mouse. So, yes, I immediately found a mouse in a trap about which I had totally forgotten. At least it proves that I have not had a loss of sense of smell from covid-19 because it was my nose that tipped me off.

Coincidence!! I had a mouse in the trap in my garage yesterday, they come in from the garden at this time of year, but also I keep my supply of peanuts for the birds in there. In the past I have found where they had been making a home in my gardening shoes, luckily before attempting to wear them.

I used to put a piece of burned bacon in my traps, and that worked rather well, but then an American friend (chexbres who recently died -- another petty personal trauma) told me about peanut butter, and that works MUCH better than bacon. As for cheese, that never worked because it is much too easy to pull delicately off a trap. Peanut butter is quite easy, too, but I have learned to wrap threads around it, which makes for a fatal tussle.

Lagatta, ALL cats are street cats, it is just that some have traded luxury for freedom.

We don’t have house mice and it’s not because we have a resident kitty. Pearl likes watching wild mousies and occasionally catches one and brings it home to play with. Twice I’ve opened the garage door to Pearl, only to see a mouse or vole scurry to safety in the garage. Where they end up dying of hunger or thirst eventually. She once had a chipmunk cornered in the garage, but eventually tired of it and let it escape.

Livia didn't trade anything. She and her brother were born in a lean-to shed in an alley.

I have been lucky to spend several evenings with Patty, most of those with Kerouac. She was a lovely person and we had great times each time. I have witnessed the real friendship between her and Kerouac, ker being there - subtly- when she started to lose her head to help in a way that went unnoticed by her. I also remember the stress she had when Kerouac was taken to hospital some years ago. Kerouac being Kerouac he had refused to pay for tv and she was the one who put in my head to go there and get Tv for him. I fully understand xxxx being upset by the way Kerouac broke the news but i think it is a way for him to protect himself and stay in the shadow instead of allowing people to see in his heart. I, being the worst person on earth to talk about death, would appreciate if we don't judge in these difficult moments. Everybody must find a way to protect himself. Kerouac way is no worse than mine. I think belaggering him for lack of human warmth is just adding to the pain he feels. Let it be... i don't believe there are mean spirited people on this forum, but there are quite a few weirdos.

It was dealt with in a more sensitive fashion Whatagain and the decision made to move on. The sudden shock of reading it threw me. She and I had some acquaintances in common here in NOLA and its very likely we both agreed that our paths had crossed at one time or another as I did pop into The Abbey where she worked from time to time. I knew she had been ill but wasn't quite prepared this a.m. to read of her dying. Overreaction perhaps but more of a taken off guard at the reading of. Thank you for your personal thoughts on the matter.

Thank you for your personal thoughts on the matter. I was shocked to hear of Patty's death (Chexbres). We did email and PM each other and I loved her contributions to APIAS. A powerful presence. Especially Patty's thread about moving into and buying an apartment in Paris. Could someone please guide me to the thread where 'It was dealt with in a more sensitive fashion Whatagain and the decision made to move on.'? There was a 'decision made to move on? Although I no longer contribute to the forum in a regular fashion, I will always love APIAS. For me it is unique and remarkable. I have always loved that there is an appreciation of members who have died. That there is a place to express one's special thoughts of a person who once belonged to this community. So, if possible, please let me know the thread about Patty's death__ "It was dealt with in a more sensitive fashion Whatagain and the decision was made to move on.' I haven't quite 'moved on'. Thank you, Jazz.

OK. Call me oversensitive. Who am I to comment out of nowhere? But I will. Please, please don't refer to Patty's death as 'another petty personal trauma'. Please don't refer to her death as 'petty'. Kerouac is far too intelligent and sensitive to have done this in a casual fashion. For whatever reason, it is now done. Whatagain, thank you for your kind words about Patty and I share them.

Jazz, your reaction is exactly what mine was when I read the fine print in parenthesis about Chexbres dying. I went off on Kerouac in a post and then some. He then kindly informed me via PM with an apology of being insensitive about the manner in which the information was "delivered". Whatagain then posted what he did in between a simulposting of PM's between Kerouac and I and I made the decision to delete my posts regarding my outrage. Yes, it was/is unfortunate that you had to hear of it in the same manner that I did. I was the one who dealt with it in the manner I felt at the time and felt is was "more sensitive" and warranted in order, not to protect Kerouac but to not cause an uproar on the board. Whatagain saw that I had deleted my posts and posted what he did and I thanked him for that and his thoughts about Patty/Chexbres. There were a lot of emotions flying around at that particular time.
