It all starts tomorrow in New Zealand, which is also the favourite to win. It has been a bit complicated to organise, what with the earthquakes and all. Official site

Well, the All Blacks won the first match -- good for them!
France plays Japan tomorrow, which is not supposed to be a problem, but who knows in this strange world?

Hey, Canada beat Tonga. That was a surprise. Maybe they hit them over the head with hockey sticks.

Cannot wait for Sunday!! Canada vs France! Do you know what time the match is? We are hoping to be able to find a comfortable seat amongst the French fans to experience the excitement. Of course we do not expect to win, but it will be fun to watch! Cheers, Mich PS we will leave our sticks at home

I ashamedly have not had much interest in The World Cup this year. I had no idea South Africa were playing Fiji this morning until I arrived at my hairdressers at 8.30am - Which is next to a pub. There were cars everywhere and the TV blaring. By the time I left the score was 28-3. Final 49-3...... I don't call that a rugby match.....I like the scores almost even with the last point given turning the equalizer into a WIN just like the SA-Wales match!

France 46 - Canada 19Deepest sympathy, Mich. I must admit that France really caught fire in the last five minutes.

My sympathies too Mich honey - I had some kind of inkling France would win (congrats Kerouac!) because they are almost fanatical . Just as bad as us really...

Well, France lost to the All Blacks as expected, but all week the New Zealand media were saying that France was going to make sure to lose on purpose, because it will face a weaker team in the next round.

It has been an exciting World Cup thus far!! Tonight we will have to record the New Zealand/Austrailia match. I can imagine how exciting for both countries this match will be. How France made it through is an interesting topic of discussion, quite unexpected by myself anyway, but I am very happy they will be in the final.
I have educated myself on the sport by watching this World Cup and still have a lot to learn, but find it entertaining to watch.
Cheers! Mich

New Zealand is going to be a tough nut to crack for France, but France has beaten them twice already in World Cup games of the past...

France whipped New Zealand in the opening match of the Rugby World Cup 2023. 27-13. This is the first time the Kiwis have ever lost a World Cup match in the opening round.

One thing that I love about the World Cup is that you can find yourself watching a match like Georgia-Fiji which you would never have ever imagined watching before, and most people don't even know exactly where these countries are or that they have rugby teams and neither of them ever imagined that they would play some day in front of 42,000 spectators (in Bordeaux). That must be thrilling for all of them.

I've been watching a few of the matches and it's been quite entertaining. Especially when early on there was one country playing another that they'd not beaten for something like sixty two years, and they won. Talk about ecstatic fans.

As "normal" tourists begin to thin out this month, I finally saw a flood of Irish and Scottish visitors arriving at Gare du Nord today ahead of their match on Saturday. They all seemed happy to be here.

Wales also play Saturday, as does England. Big day that is. Saturday for me is a most unusual day. I will try and watch all the rugby, three matches, but also two events in the Formula 1 happening the same day. Looks like it'll just be sandwiches to keep me going. Or maybe just eat the bread if I have too little time to make them.

Paris has definitely filled up with rugby fans from the British Isles. They are even closing the Concorde metro station where the biggest fan zone is, to alleviate the crowd crush.
I'm sure that Nantes (Wales v. Georgia) and Lille (England v. Samoa) are also going to be extremely busy, particularly Lille since it is so close to England.
