Aus. Post has a backlog of cards, letters, presents, business documents etc that won't be delivered before March. Govt made some pretty hard slashing to finances which hit at the same time as covid when there was a huge increase in on-line orders. With the world shipping fiasco as it is I doubt if all the items will get to their destination at all.
I don't send cards as I prefer my trees in the ground, growing. Son #2 and I have a pair of cards which we exchange at appropriate times. He and I don't really "do" Christmas. We used to pack tent and sleeping mats and "go bush" but now he has to set up his virtual curriculum for the whole year (not knowing if the Uni will even be open.)

That is a wonderful achievement! 4kgs is 8 blocks of butter weighing 500grms...each, Imagine 8 blocks sitting on the kitchen counter... beautiful sight!

Well done Whatagain.
I've been wallowing so I have been eating too much.
Made THREE christmas cakes already...one was eaten (5") as a 'test'...one is for my sister (she asked me to make her one after tasting the 5" one ) and I have a 9" one (as the actress said to the bishop)
...the 2 remaining have been covered in marzipan so nobody is allowed to touch them until christmas week. In the meantime I've been baking the technical challenges from this year's 'Great British Bake Off'...the most spectacular being 8 layers of genovese sandwiched with a chocolate custard buttercream and covered with a chocolate ganache...(it was delicious)
So I haven't lost an ounce recently...

I'd be rather concerned if an actress did have a 9" one.
I wish I had. I'd have to fold mine in half.......
Apparently Mick as got a 12" one.... but he doesn't use it as a rule.

You bet ! Chocolate and dessert as a rule I avoid 99pc of the time. It helps my glycemia and i realize i can skip them without too much effort But if i have one bite of a cake then i eat the whole lot.

Met these fellas on my walk today and they gave me a note and pleaded with me to post it. I obviously don't speak Italian, so I'll just write what it said: Nostri cari cugini americani, Potremmo essere in cella ma siamo sicuro. In soliderita' sempre, I vostri cugini italiani. Forza!

Hopefully they will escape before the Christmas holidays or they may find themselves the guests of honor at an Americanized feast.

You are an honourable man Whatagain. Settling ones debts however small is the essence of being honourable. Its is easy to gauge a person, man or woman, by their smaller actions. Like keeping an appointment to the time arranged. Carrying out a promise. Lending a helping hand like guiding an elderly person across the street or simply opening a car door. So sorry you are broke but another pay day will come.....don't run up any debts in the meantime!

It was such a huge relief to be able to pay off all our personal debts recently. (What wasn't a relief but a huge resentment was a hefty income tax bill I had to pay NY State to the tune of $160,000 USD.) Not having resided there since the 1970's, I thought it was a huge injustice. It was compounded by my intense disdain for the former governor.

Wow, I'm glad that I am poor even though I don't think I will qualify for the 100 euro tax relief that 7 million of the French will be receiving due to rising energy costs.

I filled the bird feeder with seeds and hung it out the other day. Since only small birds can sit on the little bars and get the seeds, the turtledoves and other birds stay on the ground underneath, waiting for seeds to fall down.

I really miss being able to hang birdfeeders and have a slew of them stored in the shed. My mother and brother used to send me some really cool ones. Unfortunately, I had to abandon using them because the seeds that fell to the ground and the Mourning Doves and some other birds would become easy targets and prey for the cats (our own and some in the neighborhood). After witnessing the carnage and at times finding one that one of our cats dragged inside the house I just didn't have the heart for enabling the murder of them.
My favourite was one designed for Goldfinches which I would fill with Nyger thistle seeds. One day T's cat "Grazie" dragged one into the house and the sight of fresh blood on it's breast simply broke my heart.

My daughter bought 4 tickets for a show of Justin Bieber in march 2023. She is happy as hell.

What happens if there is no show due to unforeseen circumstances? Presumably she will get her money back but oh what a clever ploy by his management rake in millions of dollars that will earn him a lovely interest in the meantime. We will call it The Bank Of Bieber! Personally I thought he was long gone and finished....

If there is a no show she will be disappointed. Like last year she had tickets fir another concert in Scotland. She got a refund for the show, not for the pkane. Which was about 50 euros.

I was delighted that Angela Merkel chose a punk rock song by Nina Hagen for her domestic goodbyes today because it reminded her of her adolescence in East Germany. We always think of these world politicians as being robots, but they used to be real people, too.
Of course, the version played today by a German military band probably did not sound like this.

The older i get the more tolerant i become with these anticoformist artists. I disliked punks now i love them. In the music at least. The day all artists fit in the mould, we are doomed.

Yes Bixa, but i started my life as a very conservative idiot. I guess in the US i would have a republican...
Took me years to get out of it, evolve, then years to have my own ideas, to hone them, then years to assume them. I need another life, i just started to know who i am !
Now, i realize i was a fan of the Clash, but didn't know at the time they were punks.

At least you had good taste in music!
I agree about needing at least another life. By the time most of us start getting a handle on things, it feels as though time is running out.

Wouldn’t it be fun to start over knowing what we know now?
Even better, to reach an old age, then start aging in reverse, reliving all the moments of your life going backwards to your birth, then nothingness.
Or perhaps like an expanding and collapsing universe, to keep cycling back and forth forever…
