I think the fact spam happens on anyport a lot, yet we, the members, rarely see it, speaks volumes for how well the site is managed by you two moderators/creators. Indeed it does. It's inevitable on any forum and if you don't see it as a user it's because people are working hard to weed it out. I've been an admin on a couple of forums and we worked out some clever ways to preemptively block spam incoming—there were a group of prolific spammers for a couple of years who reliably used strings of "*" or "="s as spacers in their spam text pastes which made actively blocking them quite easy, as did their obsession with "Nike" and "Gucci"—but it's always a moving target.

Well, if I were a spam, I'd run like hell to get away from "The Anyport Two". Too quick on the draw they are!

I discovered a banana tree in the garden. So i peeled it off and started eating it. I'll finish another day

Why didn't you wait until it produced some bananas? I think you are in for a surprise as a new baby banana tree will come up next to the old stump.

My brother-in-law and his wife were supposed to come and visit us tomorrow. They live in Ireland and took the ferry to Santander from Cork. Well, they were supposed to take the ferry but it was delayed 24 hours because of the big storm in the Atlantic the other day.
This evening he called to say that his wife felt a bit lousy on the ship so got tested on arrival in Spain, and she is positive for Covid. So -- they have some things for us, we have some stuff for them. They will drive up the coast, stop at our place, we will exchange items and talk for a few minutes from a bit of distance on Wednesay. They will then continue north.

That is unfortunate. But in a few years you will be able to exchange your stuff by drone without even visiting, and that will be worse.

Why didn't you wait until it produced some bananas? He is kidding, Tod! It was a reference to how the bark looked peeled down like that. Real banana trees aren't really trees, anyway. What looks like a trunk is actually tightly bound banana tree leaves. This “trunk” is botanically referred to as pseudostem, which means false stem. You can see that Whatagain's "banana tree" is a regular wood trunk. That is very inconvenient bad luck for your brother-in-law & his wife, Bjd -- sorry for them & for you all. Do you suppose that everyone who was exposed to her on the vessel will be alerted that they were exposed to covid? I did not understand this part of your comment. They did wind up taking the ferry? Are the ship & the ferry the same, or a different boat entirely? They live in Ireland and took the ferry to Santander from Cork. Well, they were supposed to take the ferry but it was delayed 24 hours because of the big storm in the Atlantic the other day. This evening he called to say that his wife felt a bit lousy on the ship so got tested on arrival in Spain,

Sorry if I wasn't clear, Bixa. Ship/ferry same thing in this case. I have no idea whether she caught the covid on the ferry or had it before. Anyway, she was tested when they arrived in Spain, so there was certainly no contacting all the other people who had been on the ferry. It's an overnight trip, so I suppose they spent much of the time in their cabin. My brother-in-law doesn't have covid and he is the one who would have had the closest contact.
Apparently she just seems to have a cold but got tested just in case because they had planned to stop and see other family members (my kids and grandchildren) on their way north in France.

More & more it seems there is no rhyme nor reason as far as who will or won't get these variants! Pain in the neck, in any case.

OK, I found out this: "When the name "mimosa" is applied as a common name, any species in the Acacia genus may be called mimosa. In this application, there is no difference in mimosa and acacia trees. However, only when the common name "mimosa" is freely applied in a regional vernacular to multiple trees does the confusion start. For example, Albizia julibrissin may be interchangeably called silky mimosa, Persian acacia or silk-tree among various English-speaking nations or regions. Plants in the genus Acacia may be called mimosa, wattle, thorn-trees, acacia or prickly Moses".
Here in our area, we are surrounded by Wattle trees with their yellow flowers. I think the pink blooms are so lovely in Albizia Julibrissin or Silk Tree.
Whataggain I hope you store the wood as it is prized for long burning log fires.

We bought a car today. For our nr2 who should get her licence next month. The car dates from 2002 - one year younger than my daughter. A Seat Ibiza, gaqoline. Full of small indentation, scratchez etc that lowet the sales prices but have no impact on driving... 100 000 kms, 2500 eiros.not bad considering tge explosion of price of second hand cars recently.

Let's keep in mind that cars dating from back then will be banned from the roads of the EU before long, which explains why they are cheap to buy. Diesel cars from that date are already banned inside Brussels.

I criss-crossed Belgium today. Waterloo german border then netherlands border at seaside. Then back home. Should have been 5 hours drive, turned out to be more than 7, traffic jams. All that for 2 meetings, total time 1h 30. Final working time 8 h 30 ?

Good grief!
All during the pandemic there were articles about how companies would learn that many face-to-face meetings could be replaced with phone calls, zoom conferences, or just a couple of emails.
It would appear that the lesson was not learned.

I am disgusted by the sheer stupidity of some humans. Just read on CNN that a grandmother got upset with her granddaughter, who she thought had drunk from a bottle of whiskey. So she forced her to drink the rest of the bottle. The mother, present, didn't do anything. The girl of 4 died. What is wrong with humans ?

That means she was poisoned. Drinking that much neat alcohol in such a short period of time leads to an overload in the liver? or is it bloodstream? whichever, but you die as your body cannot cope. I hope they jail the grandmother. She must live with her stupidity which cost a dear little girl her life. Bitch. Many young men are challenged to drink a whole bottle of alcohol spirits and die.

Slovenia voted for newcomers, in the environmentalust party. Ousting the incumbant popylist ruler. Seems a trend in Europe: we want something else. The first choice is often a populis, with easy answers and nice slogans. Le Pen, Bojo, etc. Then people realize the vacuity of these populists and want to try something else. But no way back to daddy old left and right choices.

I'm completely confused by this picture. Whose arm is that? And are those giant eyeglasses sticking out of Trump's pocket? {Spoiler}

Don't bet the house on it but I'll bet there's a shortish guy in dress uniform behind Trump and the giant eyeglasses are a the handle of a ceremonial sword.

Had an eye test which I hate at the opticians today.
The good news was that my eyesight has barely changed in 5 years.

Why do you hate eye tests? They are no big deal, unless your optician is still putting drops in your eyes. I went to an ophthalmologist a few weeks ago for the first time in years and she just checked the vision, eye pressure with a little puff of air and something else. My eyes are fine.

Sorry but I don’t like the machines, the fiddling around your eyes etc and the last time I went I wound up with flashes in the eyes, various floaters ettc.
