Gosh, so imaginative! Everything sounds delicious except for "burnt leek", which badly needs a different name.
What is Chapters Cawl and how did the seaweed butter taste & look?
The third set, the Jerusalem artichoke raviolo & the Cornish crab bisque cry out to me.

The third set, the Jerusalem artichoke raviolo & the Cornish crab bisque cry out to me. The burnt leek was so good and did not taste burnt at all, its quite a trendy accompaniment at the moment. It did surprise me because I always thought that burnt leeks were bitter. I have since searched for a recipe but not found one yet. The chapters cawl was just heir take on Welsh lamb stew ( cawl) - it was like a consomme ...very tasty too. The seaweed butter was nice but I would have liked a stronger flavour. The bisque /ravioli was my sisters favourite course. Mine was the parfait ...but it needed a little toast or something to go with it.

I don't really go out to restaurants (or anywhere else) anymore but that's making me wish I did.

Fumobici, one big saving grace to Oaxaca is that there are so many places to eat here that have outside dining, plus the weather allows that all year round. That's probably made the pandemic a little more bearable. Even so, I don't go out that often.

And I have only been out twice to a restaurant since the whole pandemic began, enticed both times by friends who basically dragged me out. I really don't miss it much (age is probably a factor). I bought take out chicken wings just once, but I feel it coming on again before long. The place is right across the street.

We were yesterday at a restaurant. We reserved for 5, came with 4, one having Covid. The cook, owner and waiter, as he was short of staff, welcomed us with a frown and gave us the piss because we were only 4. We will never go there again...

I had a fish and chips The fish was far frim perfect, too much water. No lemon. Ok, we are not in UK, so it cannot be perfect. But the fries were not good ! A sin in Belgium. So a soso fush and berk froes, not super top for a fish and chips. The oysters as entrée were ... basically tasteless.

4 restaurants in 2 days... overkill.
1 very good price quality cheap in Compiegne.
one fantastic but very expensive in Paris, close to place des Ternes : le petit bougnat. Deer, foie gras maison, ile flottante. No wine for me, a glass for my daughter.
One inside the towers of La Defense, not open to the public, surprisingly good.
One brasserie in Waterloo, with Mrs Whatagain and Marie : great piece of beef, a good carpaccio of salmon. Wine for my wife...
Going to the gym today.

We had a meal at the bar du port, in St Trop, being served by my daughter, working there since one month.
The restaurant doubles as a bar, a concept i dislike, but since the bar was indoor and we had lunch at the terrace, facing the port, it was ok. The bar is located between Senequier and the café de Paris, for those familiar.
Service was great of course, what a stunner my daughter is...
Food was of brasserie type, with elaborate presentation. Wine, we ordered from their Domain, quite ok and good price quality ratio. I had a soupe de poisson and a filet de cabillaud - fish soup followed by cod. Then cheese to avoid sugar from desserts, and an irish coffee, because of course there is no sugar in it.
The weather was splendid, the yachts were already there. Boats worth several millions...
Around 50 euros all in pp, i was foolish enough to pick the bill, prompting my friends to leave lavish (frenchwise) tips.

All of these sound delicious save the unfortunate meals whatagain posted.
Bixa, I know you were thrilled to go to a Middle Eastern restaurant.
We had breakfast at a restaurant in the French Quarter that we go to annually. Somehow, we luck out and get there just in time before a long line forms. They make wonderful omelets and did not disappoint. A Bloody Mary to accompany.

Lotsxof restaurants on holiday on cote d'Azur.
We started with one we often go to, the Pizzaiole. Ok but no more. Average food, overcooked meat and fish. Then of course we went to St Trop at the bar du port, quite nice. I had a delicious soupe de poissons, really. Then back to Cavalaire, les rotisseurs de la côte, splendid meat, i had a delicious octopuss, and today in le plan de la Tour, very good wok. I think we had one more...
I think i gained 2 kgms...

For Mr. Kimby’s 70th (!) birthday he received a nice gift card in the mail from my sister in another state for a restaurant in our town we’d yet to try. We had lunch this week and will have more than enough left on the card for another lunch or dinner. I had an Italian beef flatbread sandwich that was very succulent and the birthday boy ordered a 5-spice pork flatbread. Both very good and enough leftover for a 2nd lunch today.
These days we seem to prefer eating lunch out to getting dressed up to go out to dinner.

Casimira, how lucky to always get a good spot at a favored restaurant. And a bloody mary for brunch is always festive.
Whatagain, I imagine that meat was perfect, by my big envy is for the fabulous seafood.
Kimby, what a nice way to get to sample a new restaurant!
Today I went to a place I love, although I've only been once before. I went back with the same friend with whom I ate the first time, and we were both just as happy this time around. I see I posted about it the last time -- on Jan. 20. It was just as lovely this time, only somewhat marred by the goofy service that is unfortunately a feature of Oaxaca. It's a middle eastern restaurant called Adamá and the food is just lovely.

In the last 2 years I've only been to a restaurant twice and yesterday was the third time. Every 6 months or so we have a cricket reunion lunch and yesterday was the day. We ate at a French restaurant in Covent Garden that we have used before and which I'm not that mad about - my meal was awful. Starter was baked brie which was just off cold. Main course chicken milanese which came with a fried egg, artichokes, reggiano cheese salad and truffle mayonnaise. Sounds good eh? I don't eat eggs so ordered mine without. It came up with the egg on it. It was overcooked. The artichokes consisted of one piece the size of a thumbnail, the salad was a pile of rocket (which I don't like) with 2 tiny shavings of cheese. I have written and complained.

I thought you said it was a French restaurant. There was nothing French on your plate (or at least prepared the way the French would do it). Even putting cheese on the roquette is not done. This place sounds like an evil trap.

It’s called the Boulevard Brasserie and my meal was on the prix fixee section. Must be French ..ish.
Oh, and it had onion soup. That’s a clincher.

François 1er, king of France won at Marignan in 1515 and thereafter controlled the duchy of Milan. Maybe the chicken was born then and there ?

Sorry about the disappointing meal, Mick. Restaurant disappointment is one of the things I hate most in life.
I ate in a giant tent today, with what seemed like hundreds of stands serving regional specialties from around the state of Oaxaca.

I got taken to a super outdoor restaurant on Sunday. The friend who took me finally remembered to send the pictures, which is why I'm only now mentioning it. The food is barbacoa from the Mixtec region of Oaxaca -- the kind of food usually found only in its own area or on special days in the bigger markets. The restaurant is called El Obispo & it's situated well up in Colonia Reforma. The place doesn't seem to be on Tripadvisor's radar so far, and there is a part of me that is reluctant to plug it here. Oh well, when it really takes off, you all can say you heard it here first! Instead of trying to describe the food, I'm including this excellent link. Yes, it's from California, but well researched, lovingly presented, & has great pictures. Also, it's in English. The only minor quibble I had was his count of the different indigenous people of Oaxaca. Here are the pictures of our meal -- too much to finish! I'm not pushing myself away from the table, just trying to not be in the picture. Note that there are three different delicious salsas provided, along with a plate of fresh garnishes. My guess is that the (wonderful!) red goop on top of the pozole might be the same stuff used to marinate the barbacoa meats. It was very herbal & good. The purple substance on my masita (cracked corn placed on an agave leaf set under the slowly cooking meat, so that the juices drip down & cook & flavor the corn) is seasoned blood -- like blood sausage, but without the casing. It was scrumptious.

Met a friend at Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grill on Sunday. We go there several times a year to see this friend. He and Mr. Kimby grew up together and also were roommates in medical school. Now that we both spend time in Florida, we’ve reconnected. Anyway, Doc Ford’s is on a dock sort of. We usually get a table by the water, but ate inside (AC and further from the loud music!)

Awww, Whatagain ~ You'd love some of the rustic ways food can be served here, including in various leaves. I admire how you'd be willing to dive in. To give Kerouac his due, he is an enthusiastic tryer of new foods -- something that is surely necessary for people who want to travel.
