I found an African restaurant close to my daughter’s school. As she was once more released from school I took her for lunch, with her sister.
So it was a chicken Moambe for me, excellent.
The restaurant is called ‘le Cauri d’or’.
A cauri is a shell that was used for money I n Africa for centuries. Cauri d’or means golden Cauri and the restaurant is in an old house that is quite longitudinal. Hence the corridor.
And the boss worked with my daughter at a tennis club. The food is better at his restaurant.

Cauri is "cowry" in English, Whatagain.
I need to learn how to make African food. Was the restaurant food from a particular country or region of Africa?
I had a bunch of stuff to do to day and it wasn't until three o'clock, as I passed a small restaurant with the menu of the day on a blackboard out front, that I realized I hadn't eaten anything. I was served a nice broth with vegetables in it, a plate of very nice breaded fish filet with rice and salad, some hand-made tortillas, a glass of fruit water, and a little cup of jello at the end. Nice homey food.

The only African dish I know how to make is mafé (chicken in peanut sauce). It's the principal use of peanut butter in France.

Second only to young Tod I've probably got the most experience in general of food from Africa though it is just that, general. I can say that whatagain's dish, chicken moambe, I only know from the Congo, Central African Republic and Angola. Also if I have preference, it is usually the northern part of the Continent I find more appealing though there are still dishes here and there that are very good. Ostrich is my favourite meat which you only get in the south. Ethiopia was the worst and Zambia was the least tasty.

I rarely go to restaurants but on Wednesday I went out with my daughter and son-in-law in Bayonne. We tried a new sort-of-fancy restaurant -- waitresses dressed in black and cool décor. It was so warm we ate outside on the patio. The food was advertised as being locally sourced. After a starter of smoked trout (a small whole trout) which we shared with really good bread, the main courses were disappointing. I had mussels in a curry sauce. I could eat only half because there were so many and I would have preferred something with them, not just mussels. My daughter had ceviche which she found not spicy enough and there were more carrots than fish. My son-in-law had a grilled pork dish. To finish off my socializing, on Thursday I had tea and dessert with a friend. The place we wanted to go had no empty tables so we ended up at Paul, a bakery chain. The choice of cake was not too appealing so we had these little brioches. This is rugby country after all.

The moon must be in trout because the last restaurant meal I had (& forgot to report on) was smoked rainbow trout. It was out of this world and rather surprising. That's because it came as a whole fish with head and tail, but when I began eating I found that there was no spine nor any bones to avoid. How did they do that? All I can figure is that it was carefully deboned, then pressed back together before smoking & that the smoking sort of sealed it. At any rate, what with the part I ate at the restaurant and the part I took home, I got three meals out of it.
Would you return to that restaurant, Bjd? It sounds like highs and lows. I agree that the mussel dish would need something with it. On your daughter's ceviche, I'd say that any carrot is too much carrot!
The little ball players are cute. I thought they were doughnuts. Brioche is much nicer.

Always disappointing when it doesn’t meet expectations.
Mussels should come with fries and beer or white wine. I used to go to a restaurant which had fantastic mussels. My fav ones were Indian way - curry and African - bananas ! These guys were crazy.
We had our usual Thai restaurant this week, only Marie and I. The card payment was out of order but we are known there so she fed us and asked I pay the next day. Nice to be trusted.

Bixa, the trout we shared was fairly small and not farmed since the flesh was whitish rather than pink. And it had to be deboned. No, we would not return to that restaurant.
And yes, mussels are better with white wine and fries but we were not at Léon de Bruxelles. What I had was quite good but just too much of "only mussels".
Those are little rugby players.

Oh my greedy word!!!
I would have needed access to the menu the night before in order to have time to dither & make up my mind. Everything looks desirable, especially after seeing your plates. Before that I was leaning heavily toward the smoked platter, but after seeing your lobster I am dithering again.

The Kimbys went out tonight to celebrate my last day as a “60-something. The Mustard Seed Asian fusion restaurant was a good choice. I had a cashew chicken with loads of veggies, and Mr. Kimby had a teriyaki beef that was pretty much just beef. It was served family style so we shared. Pretty tasty.

The food was disappointing in Egypt save the kauchary and due to internatiinal buffets but we escaped the all inclusive in our hotel and sined out in El Gouna : A great steak on a stone the first day - with excellent service and very funny waiters An african one the second day - one of the best inever had. A very good italian the last day. All these dinners with surprisingly correct local wines (european ones are unafdordable due to taxes).

You're killing me with these pictures of where you & your sister eat, Lugg! The crisp chicken in the rice sounds like a perfect combination. Both ramens sound & look great, but the spicier one is totally gorgeous with those colors & textures.

We had a great evening at the restaurant close to home that got a one star in Michelin ranking. Great mix of tastes, Colors and we chose the accorded wines. A perfect evening and I was plastered enough to pay without crying 😭 we had a great time and the price quality ratio is much better than in a lot of brasseries, which often ask for 60-70 euros.

Wandering with a friend today, we were rather indecisive about lunch, but it was freezing cold and we didn't want to go far. So we went to a couscous restaurant which was very reasonable and not bad. We have both eaten better couscous in the past, but it wasn't bad. I had the couscous maison and he had the couscous royal. Mine came with chicken, mutton, merguez and a meatball. His had an extra item, but I already forgot what since I was concentrated on my own plate. We were not disappointed.
The only complication is that we were on boulevard Beaumarchais and we left just as today's big pro Palestine demonstration was starting, so it was a bit difficult to escape the crowd. But they were going to Bastille and we were going to République so it wasn't too hard in the end.
