This is, to my utter surprise and astonishment, one of the best and most beautiful documentary threads ever posted to this board. The subject, being a place I'd barely heard of, and being in Mexico, a place I am unfairly predisposed against because of my experience there being limited to squalid and appalling border towns, is a complete surprise to me. What a beautiful and interesting and cosmopolitan city! I knew from bixa's beautiful Oaxaca threads that that city was amazing and I've heard reports of MC being well worth visiting, but I never expected there to be more of such intriguing allure hiding in relative obscurity. What other cities in Mexico are waiting to astonish and surprise me?

Pretty much the whole country astonishes and surprises. It has its weight of history and culture, but is also fun as hell. Okay, fumobici , I have to chuckle a little at your (very generous and kind) post at #90 because you seem to have forgotten this: Wonderful report, great photos. I knew nothing about Puebla and now I really want to go there. Note the date of that quote. It was in response to my first Puebla report, way back in April of 2011: anyportinastorm.proboards.com/thread/4923And you appear to have completely missed my second visit there, for Christmas of 2012: anyportinastorm.proboards.com/thread/6314/puebla-revisited. But really, this third visit there was better because of having two great people along with me (and having a better camera). Also, this report is just wonderful because of the fun of seeing what different eyes saw when looking at the same things, not to mention Kerouac's fun and informative narrative throughout. All of that is going aroung the mulberry bush to tell you the same thing I told you back in 2011: Fumobici, I think it's a place in which you'd feel instantly relaxed, yet energized. And that goes for pretty much the entire country. All of the major cities are different from each other, and all are fiercely proud of their differences and their cultures. Don't take my work for it -- come see for yourself!

Seeing a new place for the first time is wonderful. Fumobici has attained the fine art of seeing places for the first time more than once. Twice the experience...twice the fun.

The Rosary Chapel is astonishingly ornate. I've never seen anything like it. It must be so impressive in person. That Jesus statue though... yikes.
Love the parade scenes, as usual. The pretty skeletal baton twirlers are my favorite.

Visiting Puebla was certainly an eye opener for me, and probably it would be for just about anybody.
