So, having now finished Harlots, I had to decide what next and ended up choosing Outlander. The first episode left me cold (apart from the stunning scenery) but I am going to trust Bixa and stick with it for a while longer.

I threw myself at that series a couple of times before sticking with it. Then it took me a good while to commit to season one. The first episodes don't really gel nor pull one in. Just entertain yourself while waiting to get hooked by wondering how she got so many clothes so quickly.

Just entertain yourself while waiting to get hooked by wondering how she got so many clothes so quickly. Haha I actually did that before I read this ... and now she is often riding horses and astride - I am trying to work out how she manages her skirts, especially when mounting or dismounting. Frustratingly the camera always cuts away at that point Anyway I am still sticking with it . I have just watched the first episode of " Life" and really enjoyed it. It helps of course that the wonderful Alison Steadman is one of the main characters. Here is a link to some info about it which does not contain spoilers www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2020/sep/29/life-review-hopes-and-heartaches-behind-closed-doorsI disagree re the Guy Garvey soundtracks ...but I am a huge fan.

We are watching two series at the moment. Sons of Anarchy and Homeland. It quickly became apparent that I would only be able to watch Sons of Anarchy in the afternoon or early evening. I was having nightmares! I am enjoying Homeland much more.

Lugg, I truly didn't like the first season of Outlander very much for the various reasons stated earlier, but also because it seemed to be treading the same track too often. I'm now on season 5 and so hopelessly hooked that I actually skipped an episode last night in order that it will last just a little longer. As the show goes on there are lots of twists and changes of scene which make it far more interesting. Thanks for the heads up and link on Life, which looks very good.
You are a bold soul, Mich! A friend repeatedly recommended Sons of Anarchy, but I instantly rejected it. As far as Homeland, I couldn't get into it, but may give it a try again later.

I have been amused by one of the popular French soap operas, Un si grand soleil, filmed in Montpellier. Like many soap operas, it is filmed rapidly and broadcast rapidly, with an attempt to not lose track of current events. Confinement stopped all production of these things as well as a suspension of showing the episodes for a few months. And then they started shooting again, and new episodes appeared. But they were clearly too optimistic as to the outcome of the pandemic because the new episodes mention the pandemic and confinement (convenient for making characters suddenly unemployed or not having seen the people they are craving), but absolutely nobody is wearing a mask in any of the episodes, as though that became a thing of the past. There's no going back now, so they have to keep filming it that was, but to me it looks like they have moved into an alternate universe.
I am wondering if any of the mainstream series anywhere in the world will incorporate masks or if they will try to ignore them. Since the "big" series are recorded far more ahead of time than any soap opera, they have probably not quite yet reached the point of having to make that decision, but it is arriving imminently.

We just finished with season 5 of Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. Spoiler warning.
The final episode was a delight, as Larry has an epiphany when he realizes (falsely) that he’s not Jewish and decides to do the Christian thing and donate his kidney to his friend Richard Lewis.
The surgery goes well for Richard, but Larry is on his deathbed, providing opportunities for a montage of scenes from past episodes in which he is displayed as the misanthropic curmudgeon that he is most of the time, and an out of body near-death experience in which Dustin Hoffman plays his spirit guide who boots him out of Heaven, saying “You’re not ready.”
There’s also a hilarious scene (maybe in next to last episode) when Larry mistakenly informs the guests at a wedding that the Korean caterer was serving them dog meat, and everyone is running around choking and heaving. Larry was wrong BTW.
I loved this episode, though Mr. Kimby prefers the funnier episodes.

Tonight I'm watching the last episode of season five of Outlander. Season six won't air until sometime in 2021. In the show, the American Revolution is getting ready to start. What if I never find out how that comes out?!

Just finished watching Life the new BBC drama - it is a little like a mini soap but very enjoyable on the whole, with some brilliant parts.

Who is Dominic? A divorced electrician who mends the intercom – and later pops round to fix Belle’s light switch. - Haha - well that remains to be seen ... Thanks for the link at the bottom Bixa great source . there are quite a few in there that I fancy watching.

I was having nightmares! I am enjoying Homeland much more. I loved Homeland so much!! So much that I watched it a second go round. Claire Danes is at her best and her role and the character is so complex. She really pulls it off brilliantly. I am anxiously awaiting Season 4 of The Crown. Season 4 will introduce both Princess Diana and Margaret Thatcher. Cant wait!

Yes, I too am living for Nov. 15, when I can wallow in royal-peeping yet again. I was all geared up to watch The Crimson Petal & the White in order to feed my costume drama jones. Alas, even though I could see it was well made, it completely failed to capture me.

I think we are nearing the end of Season 3 of Homeland and like Casimira we are really enjoying it. A lot of I can understand so Mr. M. spends less time explaining things to me as he is doing when we watch an episode of Sons of Anarchy. He is interested in that series more than I am.
I am also excited awaiting for Season 4 of The Crown to begin!

I'm so excited! I came across something that looked great & made me enthusiastic about starting a series. Boy, did it deliver!
So far I've only seen one episode, but hey -- this one & the following episode were both directed by Ridley Scott and one of the stars is (a very rough looking) Travis Fimmel. Can't wait for more.

I have been scrutinizing the pictures of the actors playing Diana and Charles. It will be interesting to see how they bring their characters off in the series. So far, it looks as though Emma Corrin has the princess's body language down pat. As we all know, I am a person who recognizes what is truly important. Thus, I direct your attention to my keen attention on Diana's wardrobe. Go here. The good stuff starts at #26 and goes on to the next page.

I intentionally have avoided looking at anything about the next season of The Crown. I want to be totally surprised and have no preconceived judgements about the actors etc. playing key roles. Most especially Charles and Diana.

NARCOS: MEXICO is living up to expectations. I love that they kept the same theme music for the opening credits. I like the new actors, but with so many dark-eyed, dark-haired, olive-complected actors, I have a really hard time keeping track of who’s who.
Plus I made the mistake of googling the main drug lord Gallardo and accidentally subjected myself to a spoiler....

Strange in that I haven't ever thought of Central American/Mexican persons skin tone described as being "olive complected". I associate olive complexions with persons from the Mediterranean, parts of Latin America and parts of Asia.

I had started to enjoy Outlander a little more but then I got to episode 15 ( Wentworth prison) I had to turn it off as I found it too unbearable to watch the torture scenes. I guess when I read the book I just skipped pages at a time. Anyway I have just watched Episode 1 of Roadkill and I am hooked . Hugh Laurie and Helen McCrory are just fab. Here is some info. www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-54597180

I got to episode 15 ( Wentworth prison) I had to turn it off as I found it too unbearable DITTO! Yes, after the interminable flogging scenes (which I also tried to avoid), I thought the show had gotten the sadism out of its system. I also naively believed that the flogging stuff was a tv substitute for what happened at Wentworth, but no. The first two or three times I tried to get into the series I quit because I found it boring. Those times, I never got as far as the flogging. This time I managed to get past that, then was hit with Wentworth. I'm glad I persevered past the simultaneously boring and traumatic season one, though, as the show overall got much better after that. It's been years since I read the 1st & probably a portion of the 2nd of the books. The premise appealed to me, but when the author took up the Randall rape theme again I was outraged and abandoned the series. Just looked it up and there are eight published books in the series, with two more yet to come. I shan't be reading any of them, but wouldn't mind if the tv show kept going if it keeps up the level of interest & history it had attained by season five.

I will go back to it I guess ....but not to that particular episode. I find it much easier to skip pages of a book than I do to skip episodes of a series but I suspect I will have that down to a T if I carry on watching Outlander.

Yes, I am adept at holding up my hand sideways or a napkin or something. Also, since I'm watching it on video, I can try to drag the counter past the offending portions. Since you're a nurse, perhaps you're able to watch the many gaping wounds Claire so adroitly sews up.

For some reason we started watching Riverdale again from scratch... altho I'm not a huge fan of glossy teen drama it isnt awful...Jeff likes it anyway... I thought I would never watch something like Riverdale, but when Archie screwed Miss Grundy (or perhaps the reverse) before even the opening credits of the 1st episode, I knew I would have to investigate further.
