I don't know about the rest of you, but I am rather tired of Covid-19 so I looked up the Spanish flu to see how it ended. If you have not already done the same, you might find this link edifying.

As of today, people have to have proof of double vaccination to enter the US, in addition to a negative covid test.
Went online & got the certificate. It's only available for 90 minutes, but I downloaded it to both laptops, my phone, & am printing it out. Suspenders & belts all the way for this girl!
US citizens aren't required to present a negative test on re-entry to the US.
That's not so, Fumobici ~
Who will be allowed to enter on Nov. 8? Fully vaccinated travelers will have to get tested within three days of boarding a flight to the U.S. Unvaccinated air travelers — including U.S. citizens — will be required to show proof of a negative test taken within one day of boarding a flight.source
and
U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will still be required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 3 days of boarding a flight to the United States.source <-- more complete than the previous source

That's great news. I was pretty unhappy that my return flight up to today to Seattle was going to be filled with people who hadn't taken a recent test. I'm obviously not thrilled that I'll have to have another swab stuck into my brain but I *am* thrilled I won't be sharing a return flight with random untested people, vaccinated or not. Nobody should be allowed onto any international flight without being fully vaxxed *and* testing negative too!
i got a warning on the contact tracing app twice in recent days - strangely though each time saying the contact took place on october 28th (so, 11 days ago at the time of the first warning). called the number they give there, and they said that if i have no symptoms so far, i am fine (still took a test to make sure) ... but well, what is the use of a warning that much later? btw, a colleague got a warning, too, for the same day, but she got it right the next day - as we were at the same conference that day, i guess that is where the contact took place ...
Was on RER D from gare du Nord to gare de Lyon. 11 pm, not that many people. I counted 10 people on the coach that i could see clearly how they wore their masks. 4 under the nose. 1 under the chin. Got out, saw 5 people just not wearing their mask on the platform
I'm obviously not thrilled that I'll have to have another swab stuck into my brain ...
True, but depending on your airline & what kind of jackass app they use to have your verify your covid-free status online in order to check in, said brain might explode. I'm flying American Airlines, known & hated for their fiddly-ass website. They've compounded that by making their customers use the Verifly app. Look it up if you want to see lots of hatred and foaming at the mouth reviews.

Jeff had his booster vaccine this afternoon, with his flu vaccine in the other arm at the same time at our GP Surgery. I'm booked in for the same on 26th.
In the EU, the situation is currently considered critical in 10 countries: Belgium, Poland, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary and Slovenia. Strange bedfellows considering how differently each of these countries has handled vaccinations and sanitary protocols. Three countries are considered to be in "moderate" alert: France, Portugal and Cyprus.
Just read tonight that locally (in our department) numbers have gone from 45 to 97 per 100,000 since November 3. Starting Monday, we will have to wear masks at the (outdoor) market again, as well as anywhere where people are grouped closely together like line-ups.
Just after listening to Macron the other night, I managed to get an appointment for the booster shot next Friday. I hadn't particularly planned on getting one, but since he said that people over 65 without a booster would have their health passes deactivated after December 15th, I figured I should. It's kind of stupid making an age cut-off date since there are certainly younger people with health issues but obviously it's easier just to set an age line than to faff around and get people to admit to health problems. Not to mention medical secrecy issues.
We have had a few new COVID cases since the outbreak at the retirement residence but hoping this is now under control as there does not seem to be much community spread. As of today we have 40 active cases with 2 people hospitalized.
Thankfully my sister did not have her surgery cancelled as cases are spiking throughout the province. They are not saying 5th wave yet but that is what it seems to be. We all should qualify for our boosters in December. I am hoping/praying that she gets her booster before her next round of chemotherapy.
I imagine it must be extremely complicated, mixing the vaccine and/or boosters with chemotherapy and knowing which should come first. Hoping all stays on track and wishing your sister an easier time of it, mich.

this is by incidence or by how the government considers it? since germany is very high above france etc., almost the same incidence as poland, i wonder that level it is considered ...
only met one person so far that i know is going to get a booster. she works as a teacher for children in the oncological unit of a hospital. wonder if my sister in law, who is a nurse and had her vaccination more than half a year ago, is getting a booster soon, too. most other people i know had their vaccination less than half a year ago ...
Today I saw friends much younger than me (one only 35 years old) and they have already had their boosters because they had the Janssen vaccine -- you can get a booster after only 4 weeks with that. My second shot was Moderna, and you have to wait six months for the booster.
As far as I know - 1) Unvaccinated people can catch covid. 2) Vaccinated people can catch covid - but will have lesser effects from it. 3) Unvaccinated people can be infectious. 4) Vaccinated people can be infectious. 5) Wearing a mask, whether vaccinated or not, can help the person both not catch covid and not infect others.
Question - if vaccinated, are you less infectious to others? Less as in less people can be infected from you, or the strength of the infection is less, or is it both, or not? Mask wearing, distancing is clear cut - more protection and less infectious. But apart from the knock on effects of strain on health care facilities etc if you do catch it and serious with it as being unvaccinated, what is the benefit to the health of others if you are vaccinated?
I have no idea of the answers except there is an ad running all the time on our TV explaining that if you are vaccinated you wont die from covid but you can still get it. It does not mention whether or not you are the same infectious person to others if you are vaccinated. I think you are.
Yes, "they" don't seem to have found a clear answer to whether vaccinated people can spread covid as easily as unvaccinated ones. It seems that the possibility of spreading should be lower, but I haven't seen any statistical proof. Anyway, ever since the beginning, the public message has been one of preventing the oversaturation of health services.
I remember back when the American crazies were saying that vaccinated people should be banned from flying because the vaccine made them "shed" virus all over the place.
from what i read, it might be (but is not clear, either, i suppose) that if vaccinated, you might be similarly infectious, but not for as long a time. so, infectious only for a couple of days. no idea if that is true ...
Oh dear God, why have you inflicted us with humans that have been denied a brain...?
Memo to Tod2 from God Have you not noticed that every few centuries I like to throw a brain-teaser into the gathered throng of arrogant intellectuals and let them worry it, like dogs with a bone. You may remember some of my earlier whimsies like "From whence came Cain's wife" and "Why does no-one ever expect the Spanish Inquisition?"
My favourite until now has been "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin". I watched through the centuries as men of great wisdom and learning wasted their opportunities to do some good in the world but they chose to merely cause more confusion. This brings me to your present concerns. I have given most of you a good working brain, however when it comes to using it there are many obstructions, mostly caused by the verbose government rules and regulations. Every little official wants the Power to Make The Rules, whether the rules are needed or not, or even the right rules for the situation.
Now your friend, Mark, (Good name that!) has produced a list which,* may or may not give the information each person needs.* Like everything else, managing this time is constantly changing *Remember that you don't have to make the big decisions, *keep your head down and spirits up, *enjoy the ride like your avatar does.
Remember...you are my gift...God

Yes, my parents gave me the name that means "Gift of God" after a difficult Caesarian section performed for the first time by a young doctor who was as nervous as my mother. How we both survived in the wilds of Kenya no one knows.
I shudder to think of it all. The doctor was probably in a worse shape than you, but he was more likely to be over=careful than the average surgeon.
One New Year's Eve I was on call when a woman was admitted for a C-section. The doctors had been at a party and were a little jolly but not really intoxicated, the mother had celebrated to the point where she wasn't sure what was happening. When Junior was handed to me he needed a fair bit of resus. I was doing all the routine stimulation when the Doctor took him onto the trolley and did some mouth-to-mouth breathing for about 5 minutes. Junior got the idea and was soon OK. After things settled the Doctor went and apologised to Junior for "making your first breaths smell of Italian Sausage and pickled onions"
