Thanks for the update, Mark. It seems a pretty straight-forward situation. I imagine becoming dehydrated is pretty common under the circumstances. I’ve seen it before with the aging parents of friends. They often forget to drink liquids, even when temperatures are quite elevated. It’s good you and Mrs. M could get to the hospital to make sure all was in order. From your description, it sounds like your brother has really benefitted from the care he’s been receiving at the facility.

All's well that end's well ................. I guess.
Sorry you all had the scare, but glad the probable cause was nothing dire.
Reading all this about your brother makes me so sad for him and for everyone in his position and for their families. Maybe one day there will be a test to apply to newborns to pinpoint "differentness" and address it. Ideally, this would make that person's life better from the get-go.
Glad Mrs.M was there with you, as it must make it somewhat easier to have her company.

K2, it wasn't until later I suddenly thought I should have asked if he has aircon in his room. I'll make a mental note to ask that next time I see him. I have no problem with you asking If I've not updated for some time. htmb, I've always felt he is in the best place for him. Mrs M was pleasantly shocked to see he looks younger than he has for a long time. Bixa, I'm sure you have the imagination I have as to the logical extension of what if "differentness" were to be detected. Eventually (extrapolating a long way) we'd all end up being obedient zombies with no creativity, art, genius and so on I should think. Mrs M does make it easier for sure. It's always a benefit as she is a lot more than just a translator.

Gosh, Mark ~ your comment has bothered me ever since I read it last night. I hardly envisioned babies and children being tinkered with. My musing went more in the direction of differences being matter-of-factly accepted so that people with "different wiring" might thrive rather than going through life feeling uncomfortable and misunderstood.

Certainly your idea is a good one. I did say though I was extrapolating a long way. If a mechanic/engineer sees something is adjustable he will at some point adjust it to see what happens. I'd fear a biologist/geneticist would also.

Mark, I am glad to read that he was well to return to the care home and hope he continues to do well. Even though I do not know him, I think of him and have wondered how he was doing, so I am happy to read your update.
I agree it could possibly have been dehydration from the symptoms you listed. I myself frequently need to be prompted to drink water therefore it makes complete sense to me that he might need to be prompted as well. Coupled with the summer heat it seems reasonable that this could be an issue for your brother factoring his short-term memory.
Wishing him continued good health. Is it a far drive for you reach him when needed when you are in Spain?

If a mechanic/engineer sees something is adjustable he will at some point adjust it to see what happens. I'd fear a biologist/geneticist would also I fear you are probably right. At one point my sister and I put my dad, who was deep into dementia by then, under the care of an internist. He kept saying he was going to "fine-tune" Daddy. I should mention that my father had excellent insurance, not to be cynical or anything. This of course involved many tests, and all kinds of annoyances. We increasingly felt that, given that my father could not be cured, we were just subjecting him to various tortures.

Mich, Granada is just over an hour away where he was in hospital. The care home is about half an hour past that. In my terms, not far at all.
Bixa, did your father understand what the tests and so on were for? That was also the thing with my brother, he didn't know/understand why he was there and was obviously confused as the reason for the tests. That is the 'torture' for him.

No, he absolutely could not understand anything like that at that stage. So yes, that was the torture.
