From what I read and heard, it was not so much Tory incompetence but chaos, cutting of social services, not funding health and education, corruption... And 5 prime ministers within a few years. It started with David Cameron and George Osborne's austerity as an attempt to reduce the national debt. Since then our national debt has almost tripled from £.8billion in 2010 to £2.3trillion at present. We have 4.3 million children living in food poverty (food banks increased from 35 to over 3000), every public service is broken, nothing works and taxes are the highest they've been in 70 years. Anyone who votes for more of that needs to give their head a wobble. We've gone from having the best rated NHS and highest patient satisfaction in 2010 to an NHS in crisis. So the BIG question is...where the f*ck is all our money? It's going to take more than one term to see any real improvement but it will be good to be rid of the Tory hate and division. I expect there'll be more than one 'Portillo moment' at this election. Bring it on!

All that, plus the omnishambles of the (unprepared for) Brexit referendum and aftermath, plus the (barely prepared for) omnishambles of the pandemic response, "Partygate", etc., etc. Lots of things can go wrong in 14 years (especially if you get them wrong to begin with). They showed "Partygate" on television again yesterday. Always hilarious when people are dying.

So I have placed my tactcal vote in my ward, which is a Tory stronghold. I am pretty certain Labour will win this election ...but fingers crossed that the Tory MP ( aka waste of space/skin etc. ) in North Herefordshire loses his seat. It may be very close for the first time in some time. It is too complicated to say how long due to boundary changes. But if we look at recent times members.parliament.uk/constituency/3646/election-history

The exit poll has a landslide for Labour with Tories losing two thirds of their seats and the SNP annihilated in Scotland. There goes independence.

I am curious to see if Starmer sidelines Angela and if Corbyn wins his seat as an independent.

Apart from abandoning that Rwanda business, I don't even remember what Labour have said their first measures will be.

Doubt it. For quick wins they're likely to go to a ban on no-fault evictions and improving terms and conditions for gig workers and people on zero hours contracts. Longer term we will know on the 17th, at the State Opening of Parliament, but the Guardian seems to have been briefed that "There would be new laws for enhanced workers’ rights, to set up the state-owned GB Energy, a crime and policing bill to tackle antisocial behaviour, reform of the planning system and new mental health laws. Labour is expected to revive plans for a smoking ban, an end to no-fault evictions and a new football regulator, all of which Sunak promised but failed to enact." There are a lot of nasties waiting for them, the first being that the prisons may run out of space next week, and a couple of important international meetings before the end of the month. Well I am a very happy bunny. Not just because Labour won but ... my tactical vote helped and now the Tory waste of space is no more in my constituency. Yesterday I said I was not sure how long we had had a Tory MP but now I know ...over 100 years !!! I am actually very impressed so far with my new MP ...now to watch how she tries / holds Labour to account. Here she is and what she said ... www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cqe6ylgnv11oThe health of the River Wye ( and Lugg) is very important to me and many of us who live here . But on another note - Beware Farage and Reform - the far right also making an impact here in the Uk , who knows what that might mean in the next few years

That worries me too, now I realise in how many seats they came second, how shallow the Labour vote actually was, and the risk of things just going wrong on their watch. But given the personalities of the MPs Reform actually got, and Farage's track record with his various parties/fanclubs, not to mention some of their candidates, they might just implode (assuming the remaining Tories can pull themselves together and don't implode first). I'm just thrilled that my friends in Norfolk have got rid of Liz Truss. They are battling two mega-intensive farming companies planning to build a massive pig farm and a massive chicken farm in their area. Not only because of the cruel nature of intensive farming, but because of the pollution it will bring to both the surrounding land and the waterways. The population organised petitions and talked to loads of local bigwigs but their elected representative (Liz Truss) was uncontactable (off on a lecture tour earning thousands). The new MP seems more approachable and willing to listen.

When it was cancelled it was reported that they were selling off some of the land fairly quickly to prevent an incoming government reviving it.

I couldn't have put it better myself MM... I'm just hoping that after 14 years of being nobbled by successive tory governments my (staunchly labour) city has a better future. Our city centre is run down and shoddy. We are even losing our city centre Marks & Spencer in December I know that it's not ALL the Conservative's fault, covid didn't help...and we have a megalomaniac Mayor who's been making some very unpopular decisions...but having a Labour council under a Conservative government has meant that we've been at the back of the queue for investment. An example of how bonkers our Mayor is...Leicester market has been on the same site (thereabouts) for 700 years. It became a 'covered market' (still outside but just with a roof to keep the rain off) in the 80s when a lot of improvements were made. Next door to the main market was a huge building with three floors of stalls. The ground floor was for fishmongers, butchers and delicatessens. The middle floor sold things like 2nd hand records, DVDs, books, jewellery...there was a key cutter and a cobblers. 2nd floor was wool, haberdashery and household furnishings etc (and there was a café) and public toilets. All the floors were connected by travelators..so access was easy for everybody. The city council under our Mayor (Peter Soulsby) knocked down the indoor market building because it was 'dilapidated ' (it was fine, just ugly) and replaced it with a one storey building with only room for 2 fishmongers, 3 butchers and a deli. Last winter they closed the outdoor covered market 'for maintenance and updating'. The stall holders were squeezed into a small space out of the way (I still haven't found it) whilst the work was done. Now that the work has been completed Soulsby has said that it's a 'lovely open space', what a shame to fill it with untidy market stalls...and he wants to keep the space open for 'events'. The market stall holders are up in arms and there is a petition going around demanding that they move back into the market space... We really need a new Mayor, Soulsbt has been re-elected over and over again largely because the city always votes Labour...if only somebody had the balls to stand against him!

I wonder how Farage is going to cope with his responsibilities as an elected member of parliament ('member' being the operative word). Will he maintain his offices in Clacton and hold weekly surgeries there for his electorate?

If they want to get the economy moving the first thing they need to sort out is the infrastructure, rail, bus and road so that people can move about easily and at a decent cost. I took a short journey this morning and was met by half a dozen sets of road works with temporary lights and little work actually being done.
