The promotional videos I have seen or heard are all pretty cringeworthy.

I was just wondering if there will soon be any Tories left who have not applied for the job. Priti Patel is rumoured to be standing. Who’s going to vote for her?

We have lots of candidates. On the tv this morning a jolly raconteur (and ex-Tory MP) Giles Brandreth said that the conservative party is the oldest and most powerful and successful political party in the world. As a rule the party is also very shrewd and has no qualms about getting rid of leaders whilst searching for one with the necessary oomph.
The country voted in Thatcher and the party gave us Major. The country voted in Cameron and the party gave us May. The country voted in May and the party gave us Johnson The country voted in Jonhson and the party will give us ?
The Labour party did the same thing with Blair and Brown.
I've never voted Tory and it's unlikely that I ever will, but I do wonder how the Conservative voters feel about the way the leaders that they give their support to are changed so frequently. Presumably we are voting for policy rather than personality..but the Prime Minister is a hugely important figure in our culture and it's essential that we have a PM that we can respect and trust

The candidates for tory leader are all as awful as Boris as far as I'm concerned.

Well, they're supposed to be, aren't they? After all, they are Tories. What is really terrible is that for those of us seeing this mess from afar, if we were consulted, we would almost certainly choose the nicest looking and younger ones. Yes, Rishi Sunak and his great expensive suits. He might even be a Nazi for all I know, but the foreign media have not yet started digging the dirt. He probably eats immigrant babies for breakfast.

I can't hate Rishi because he reminds me so much of my nephew..who isn't a British Asian billionaire..but a teacher (Anglo French actually) and about as New Labour as it gets...

Although, I quite like this quote ... "No one in their right mind ever had a bad word to say about a potato." Did you see Patrick's "headline he doesn't understand" today? And here I was looking for a new set of books to read….. Serendipity!

Well I would have voted for Nadine Dorries to finally finish off the Tory party , but it seems she is not a contender. Shame that her literary skills are not going to get a wider audience So she's a shoo-in for Northern Ireland Secretary in the new regime, then.

I wish I had a favourite, but I really don't know anything about these people. So I support the person who will call for new elections the fastest as well as authorising referendums in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

So what is your alternative? There must be an alternative. There have to be MPs out there who went into politics because they want to serve the public. Just because these 5 are all there is on offer doesn't mean that we should just 'give them a chance'. It infuriates me that we're stuck with the people who have consistently made appalling mistakes...privatisation, Brexit, poor management of the pandemic, reducing the size and resources of public services..the police force, fire service, NHS, our armed forces....ruining our education system by putting tossers like Gavin Williams in charge...valuing wealth over integriy. We deserve better. I need to see what policies Starmer (and other political leaders) have come up with. The BBC, itv and sky tv don't really give anybody other than the tories airtime. Channel 4 news is a little less biased. Unless I'm completely wrong and the new tory PM turns out to be a fair, astute political leader and puts the country and the people first (rather than themselves and their mates) but I'm not holding my breath.

Seen from the outside, the current crop of Tory candidates all seem like complete tossers. If there were any reasonable Tories, they were probably eliminated during the leadership contest of 2019, when Bojo was selected. I remember Rory Stewart, who seemed smart and interesting, actually going and talking to people on the street to find out what they thought. Anyone else sort of okay probably left or was thrown out when he (or she) didn't agree with the hard Brexit bunch of the Tory party.

It looks like it is going to be Rishi Sunak. But how long could he last? It must be presumed that he has learned an enormous amount over the last few months of what NOT to do. Will it be enough.

Up until yeterday I thought that it would be Penny Mordaunt...but now? Probably Sunak. Whoever gets in is unlikely to last long.

Whoever getting chosen is most likely to lead to a change of government is the best pick. If such a thing is even possible in the constitutionally conservative UK. It wouldn't surprise me if a moldy beet with a crayon-scrawled "Tory" sign might win election in most ridings. And also have more personal integrity than the current PM.
