Perhaps one of those idiots with an assault rifle could get into the Congress building and mow down some Republicans, starting with the MAGAmorons.

Steve Scalise, the other GOP creep from Louisiana who was briefly a nominee for Speaker, has already been shot by someone who did not like his politics. It didn't change his stupid views.
And really, really, really we should not wish for any more gun violence in the US against anyone.

Of course, you are right, Bixa. But gun control laws rather than thoughts and prayers would be welcome.

Aw, George Santos has said that he will not seek re-election.

Well, he's way behind El Piggo ex-president in indictments, so what's the problem? Here is a report on the Ethics Committee's findings. You don't have to read it all, as the good part is highlighted. Santos, despite insisting publicly that he would be "100%" compliant, declined to speak with the Ethics Committee ... He also did not submit a written response to the allegations. The subcommittee considered subpoenaing Santos but ultimately decided against it "to avoid further delaying its investigation" and because Santos' lawyer had indicated he would invoke his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. Investigators "believed hat Representative Santos’ testimony would have low evidentiary value given his admitted practice of embellishment,” the subcommittee said in its report.

Goodbye Henry Kissinger.
Strange to think that the younger generation probably has no idea who he was.

I wonder if criticism of Kissinger's policies and actions will be mentioned among all the praise of a great American diplomat.

In the French news they keep pointing out that he totally supported Pinochet.

I wonder if criticism of Kissinger's policies and actions will be mentioned among all the praise of a great American diplomat. Oh yeah! Of course his death is all over the news. The first one I read was from Politico & was published as soon as his death was announced. It is pretty much a straightforward biographical sketch, such as I assume such publications have on major world figures, ready to be published when needed. But today, more of the ugly facts are being aired, as in a Washington Post article this morning which scrutinizes his crucial role in the carpet bombing of Cambodia. I'll share the link to the article (one of those "gift" links that probably won't work), but here is the gist of it: Nowhere is the debate over the legacy of former U.S. secretary of state Henry Kissinger more searing than in the countries that bore the brunt of his military polices, such as Cambodia. Historians say his decisions led to decades of violence that have continued to haunt Cambodian society. For many in the country, Kissinger’s impact was not abstract but visceral and continues even after his death. Land mines planted during Cambodia’s three-decade-long civil war, which was driven in part by U.S. interference, are still exploding today. In neighboring Vietnam and Laos, officials are also still undergoing the painstaking process of identifying and removing unexploded ordnance from a war that Kissinger helped to wage five decades ago. wapo.st/3N5WItj

George Santos has finally been expelled from the House of Representatives. It takes a two thirds majority to do that.

So it is now mathematically proven that more than 40pc of US are idiots. At least in Iowa. 55% voted trump in 2016. 50pc of the republicans voted for Trump 25pc of the republicans voted De Santos - even worse. 75pc of republicans being total idiots out of 55pc if the population means roughly 4 out of 10 Iowans are morons. Since we cannot expect all dems to be smart let us round it up to half the US citizens are shit for brains. 🧠 ?

Depressing is the right word.
Every news article and political commentary leading up to the primary in Iowa was all about Trump & his perceived strength in the race. Every headline today is about this shocking, disgusting, insane, and yes, depressing desire of voters to enthrone the worst possible person in the highest office in the land.
"How could they?" we thought as Brazilians elected Bolosaro. We thought the same more recently, as Argentina made Milei its president. And every sane person in the US thought, "They wouldn't!", yet a known grifter, showman, and liar made it to the White House.
But the saddest, most depressing part is that Trump is supported, protected and buoyed by the powerful, the wealthy, and the educated.
We really are fucking doomed.

Interesting. Quebec closed a road leading from New York State because so many migrants were arriving in NYC then taking a bus to the closest town and crossing the border on foot. There were so many people that Canadian authorities were overwhelmed because once across, the Canadians had to take them in. There were also cases of migrants deciding Canada was not for them and trying to cross back into the States.
As far as I know, not many were French-speakers.
