Not sure if thereβs a separate thread for this, but WHY IS THE US SO TIGHT WITH ISRAEL? What have they ever done for us?
Right now their despicable policy of killing innocent Palestinians in hopes of killing a few Hamas is killing Joe Bidenβs hopes of keeping the youth vote and preventing Trump from destroying the country.
I get that there are few allies in the Middle East, an area thatβs important in providing fossil fuels for our economy. I get that there are a lot of Jews in America and their votes are important to court if you want to win elections.
But what I donβt get is why we canβt condition the massive quantities of aid we give an already wealthy country on their behaving in a human manner. Americaβs unwavering support of Israel is alienating young voters in a way they havenβt been alienated since Vietnam!
βSplain this thing to me!

Casi, I sympathize and can relate a little to the stress of being the project manager as Mr. Kimby was working 60-hour weeks when we built our Montana house. I had to make so many decisions and gather so many options for Mr. Kimby to mull over after work. It was probably the most stressful time in my life at that point, and I was in my 30βs. Building the lake cottage in our 50βs was more of a communal effort as Mr. Kimby was working 1/2 time and headed for retirement.
I cannot imagine taking on such a project in my 70βs. Well done, you two!

Mike Pinder of the Moody Blues is gone. www.billboard.com/music/rock/mike-pinder-dead-moody-blues-founding-keyboardist-dies-obituary-1235666090/Not sure this FB link will work but it is a good read: www.facebook.com/groups/266724727124388/permalink/1876671262796385/Hereβs the text: The Heart and Soul of the Moody Blues, Mike Pinder, passed away today. He was probably the most widespread influence on Music that many people had never heard of. His Sound: The Mellotron: He was the undisputed Master of that Instrument, and did more with it than any other Band or Musician. Bands such as Yes, King Crimson, The Beatles and Stones all used the Mellotron (many with Mike's instruction), but none produced the widespread Huge Spacy Orchestral Sound that he played. All Popular Music today that features spacy orchestral sounds are a direct influence of Mike Pinder. The Moody Blues produced Seven Masterpieces with Pinder, starting with Days Of Future Passed. It was released in 1967, the same year as Sgt. Pepper, and had a more expansive creative sound. Many of the sections that we thought were the Orchestra were actually played by Mike Pinder - For the most part, the Orchestral Sections were recorded separate from the Band tracks. But the Band tracks sounded huge and orchestral due to Pinder's Mellotron. All of the Classic Seven Masterpieces have the words on the cover: "All Instruments Played By The Moody Blues." Their range of sonic expression and creativity seemed to be without boundaries or limits. The test of a good stereo can be done using Moody Blues albums. Their songs, in great part due to Pinder, are Deep, Intelligent, Emotional and hair-raising, and they Rock. Pinder's songs on the Moodies albums are most often the Most Experimental, Moody, Deep, and are often Amazing Sonic Journeys into the Mind as well as Outer Space. As he sang, "You Gotta Make the Journey Out and In." Tunes such as "My Song" are not to be believed. You just need to sit and listen to that Journey - He takes you deep into your Soul and out into Space and back. The Sounds are unworldly. Justin Hayward said "Nights In White Satin" was just another song until Mike Pinder told him to run through it one more time. Pinder added that 7 - note phrase that transported the song. Then the powerful orchestral Mellotron on the chorus lifted it into Heaven. That same 7 - note phrase has been repeated countless times on other songs: Those notes are the intro to "Layla," played by Duane Allman and the ABB used that phrase constantly in their improvisations. Pinder first recorded it on "Nights" from Days Of Future Passed. The Sounds played and Pioneered by Mike Pinder resonate through all Music through the decades and still are heard today. When you hear a Band that sounds deep, spacy, orchestral, and powerful - that's the Influence of the Moody Blues and their Black Light Soul: Michael Pinder. God Bless him on his continuing Spiritual Journey. Millions of Moody Blues fans are mourning tonight. The greatest thing we can do is to play his Music - Loud - and feel that Power and Emotion. Rest In Peace. β€

Wow, casi! How did I miss this? Iβve been hungering to know more about how your (unasked-for) project turned out. It seems all the hassles were very much worth the effort. Well done, casi and T.
I donβt know what the old house looked like, so canβt tell how similar or different the new house is, but from the one photo it looks historically appropriate, like it could have been there forever.
Makes me happy to think of the two of you puttering around in the yard and relaxing on the porch and walking Papi in the neighborhood full of folks you know and love.
A rare happy ending in this troubled world! Well done!

Still waffling about when (or if) to plant some nice specimen shrubs on the Sanibel lot.
Hurricane Ian inundated our area to a depth of 6 feet with salt water and left a 2- 3β thick layer of slimy muck covering everything. Most of the plants - except the palms - died, and we have been unable to deal with the yard while tending to repairs on the house.
Itβs been 17 months since the hurricane, and rains have somewhat moderated the hostile growing environment. So we COULD buy some nice plants and shove them in the ground, BUTβ¦. We arenβt here long enough in the spring to water them until they are established, but the fall - when we have a couple months to pamper them - is the beginning of the dry season.
We donβt have an irrigation system, and native plants are supposed to be able to thrive without irrigation, once established.
Meanwhile the vines that I pulled and poisoned are coming up in multitudes (probably from the seed crop) and are looking quite healthy. I know what Iβll be doing for the next week!

I struggle a bit nowadays, living alone as I do, but there are times when I wish the grim old boy in the black coat, with the scythe slung over his shoulder, would catch up with me and finish the job. Looking back over my 91 Years, I have had a lucky life so must not complain Mossie, I do hope he doesnβt come for you too soon! But 91 years is a good run. When it stops being fun, or at least interesting, I can see being βready to goβ. But you do know we would miss you terribly at Any Port, right?

Kimby, those look like ordinary violets but I don't see a pink one. These are a magenta sort of pink. Our purple violets are very blue, not at all pink. Funny that both you and Bixa donβt see it as a shade of pink. Looks rosy pink to me.

Kimby- I would definitely go for the cheapest option. Even a patch job as nobody can see the tooth - Can they? The tooth is mostly amalgam. The remaining tooth is cracked in many locations, so any patch would be temporary at best. I have an appointment next month to get it crowned. At least the rough edges arenβt tearing up the side of my tongue. I do carry orthodontic wax in my toilet kit for dental emergencies. I used to carry oil of clove too for dental pain, but never had to use it and now have lost track of the little vial.

Another mystery volunteer in my yard. It appears to be a violet of some sort. Maybe. Iβve never seen a pink violet, but we do have wild purple violets and wild yellow violets. Itβs growing amongst last yearβs dead stems from the oregano or marjoram which popped up several years ago.
