ah but from where we were there was no just getting the bus without a few hours of walking, first ... but the weather was nice - mainly sunny, just one day of thick fog (so much so, you thought you are surrounded by empty space), but we used that to try out some abseiling with the kids on a small rock in front of the hut ...

last night it was seafood pasta for me (a mixed meat plate for mr. r. and fries for agnes) at a konoba in dubrovnik, at a place near the walls in a quieter street - so not as outrageously expensive as right in the busier old town places, and i thought it was not bad ... the day before i had mussels in a more central place, that was a starter but as they served bread with it and they were in a tomato-y sauce that was good for dipping the bread into, it was enough as a full meal ... the days before that i can't really name everything anymore ...

we had tortelli with pesto and prosciutto crudo, and a. (who loves tortelli and tortellini and claims she'd prefer them over chocolate or gummi bears even) ate more than me or mr. r.

i work only 20-25 hours per week ... but then, that's part time ... most people i know work around 40 hours, which is what i'd consider full time ... as for maximum time, it is ten hours per day under special circumstances (normally, unless you have specific jobs, this can only be short term, else the work time has to average eight hours per day), more than that under even more special circumstances and then the average can't be more than 48 hours per week ... but in reality of course lots of people work more, either voluntarily or because they feel they have to, to keep their job, and would never dare to report it ...

one more check for the weather at our destination - only 6 C right now, but the next days' maximums will be between 12 and 15 C. unfortunately some more rain (tuesday now is supposed to be sunny, but rain from wednesday to friday, including thunderstorms on friday. i suppose i should pack some playing cards, just in case ...)

watched your trailers, and at the one of "a quiet place" it surprised me that it said pg-13 after what you said about it and what the trailer looks like - but then, i suppose in the US it is straight from 13 to 18, right? actually, i recently discussed the problem with age rating with someone here ... at the older ages it is alright, it is 18-16-12 (though the person i talked to thought even the difference between 12 and 16 is quite big) but then, the next one is 6 and then 0 ... of course, you could argue that in the end the parents have to decide anyway, but i am starting to experience how difficult it is to argue your case - so many movies rated "fsk 6" that i don't want her to see yet, next year, but half her friends have seen them already and she really wants to ... if i could say "it is rated fsk8", then it'd be a little easier ...

That sounds lovely, rikita. Is this in Germany or a neighbouring country? in austria (tyrol) ... after that we go to croatia, and there i expect it to be warm the whole time, so i won't pack any warm clothes for that (other than that i already will have my fleece jacket and rain gear from the alps, but maybe i ask someone from the group to take the rain trousers home for me, as i don't think i need them on a regular non-hiking holiday in a warm place)

25 degrees right now, supposed to get to 29 today, so not that hot, but inside the apartment it is very warm ... checked the weather for the place in the alps we visit next week - so far, it looks alright, between 14 and 17 degrees maximum and only some rain. if i remember right, last year it was just slightly above zero the days before we arrived, but then warmed up a bit ...

i wanted to make jackfruit curry and possibly dhal and some rice of course - but then it was late and i have a cold so wasn't feeling well, so i just went to subways and got some sandwhiches. chicken teriyaki for mr. r. and myself, salami for agnes.

you are right, these are the kind of news that can spoil one's appetite. i keep picturing agnes in that situation ...
as for dinner - made some instant mac and cheese today (bought it for some time when i don't have much time, but then decided to make it today) - wanted to add frozen peas, but as we didn't have enough, i added some grated carrots and some sweet corn instead, and also some extra cheese ... and had some green beans as a side, too ...

my cousin is lately photographing with an old camera that uses film. i think for some people it seems more "real" or "pure", though don't think that is the case for him ... he might think it is a bit cool, though, or maybe he just happens to have that camera and wants to use it ... he doesn't take that many pictures though - i couldn't afford having film developed with the amount of pictures i take these days (and even the albums from back before i got a digital camera take up too much space already, i don't like throwing photos away ...)

i know and i sometimes do (with the rice), but this recipe was without rice inside ... mr. r. asked me not to make couscous as the grains are smaller than rice and he feared they might get into the wounds of his wisdom tooth that he got removed in the morning ...
today, mr. r. cooked - nürnberger bratwurst (the very tiny sausages) with mashed potatoes and red cabbage.

i read a few things about ants yesterday. like that the males come from unfertilized eggs and that in some ant species, a lost worker ant can lay an egg and raise the male ant who then is its chance to spread its genes. and that since a lost ant tries to find its own groups pheromone trail, a small group of lost ants might ant up just walking in circles, following each other's scents, until they die of exhaustion. and that if an ant is lost and manages to come back home, but has been gone so long it lost its group's scent, it will be treated like an invader and killed.
i feel very sorry now for the ants that climbed into our lunch box yesterday and thus were carried far away from home by us.
oh, also, apparently when an ant dies, its scent changes, indicating to the other ants to carry it to the area where they store the dead ants. and apparently they did experiments giving a live ant the smell of a dead one, and its friends kept carrying it to the dead ant area, which it left, but was carried back there as soon as it encountered another ant again and again, until it managed to wash off the scent ...

planning to make stuffed peppers - i have a vegetarian recipe that uses feta cheese and mushrooms, but as i don't have quite enough mushrooms and cheese, but have some leftover bacon, i'll see what it tastes like if i add that ... also gotta decide if i want to serve couscous or rice with it ...

ok, tried the recipe tod2 linked, yesterday. went to a shop and asked which corn flour to use - the one they gave me was the same one as for polenta though. varied the recipe a bit, though - used less corn flour and more vegetables, so maybe it wasn't very authentic the way i made it ... anyway, it tasted quite good.

a. is spending the night elsewhere (at my dad's, but my dad isn't there, so with my dad's wife and my brother), so we used the opportunity to go to a restaurant without her. ended up chosing a wine shop with a small restaurant that is right across the street from the school i'd like to send her to and from the house my dad lives in ... so we sat outside at a table on the side walk with a view of the school building ... both mr. r. and i chose the boeuf bourguignon, and for dessert i had creme brulee and he had some kind of apple cake with caramalized almonds. can't tell you exactly what wines we had, i tend to forget that ...
