It's a shame that Amadou & Mariam have dropped from the spotlight, at least on this continent.

I have always liked Beck even if he is a Scientologist.

I like the Pink version better.
Some prefer Joplin singing it.

I think that quite a few "new" versions of songs are better than the original, but you're not supposed to say that.

I've often heard Sabali on Radio-Canada, but the video is a discovery.

I found myself belting this one out last night walking home from the library. Our streets are so quiet, air-conditioned windows shut, that there was little danger of being overheard. I tried to put an Amy Winehouse spin on it.

That sounds so much more mellow that I remember Leon Russell as being.

He doesn't look especially mellow in that photo, does he? He wrote the song, covered nicely by George Benson.

Driving home yesterday I was listening to Graham Nash of CSNY and he was talking amongst other things of their harmonies. I suddenly remembered a song I had not heard for years but couldn't recall the title or artist so for the next hour I turned it round and round in my head until I remembered it. This is it and it's one of the most beautiful sings I know - even though I know nothing of Mendocino.

I posted this in response regard for the current controversy taking place in NOLA as we speak.
Mayor Mitch Landrieu has called for the removal of ALL confederate statues throughout the city and thus far 4 have come down.
Slated for tonite is Robert E. Lee who presides smack dab in what is known as Lee Circle. (an engineering feet I can't even imagine how they're gonna do it!!) In my opinion this should have gone to the people to vote one way or the other rather than the one man self serving pony show Landrieu is putting on at the expense of hundreds of thousands of dollars of our taxes. Never mind that Lee was against slavery, and a strong proponent of the abolition of Jim Crow laws and has ben lauded by near every president from FDR, Truman, Eisenhower, JFK, Reagan, Ford, Bush Sr., Jimmy Carter ALL lauding him for his stance on Civil Rights. It's a sad day for history and what it should represent for generations to come.

After 8 straight days of rain, I cut loose and blared this and danced out oh the balcony in such great joy!!
CRANK IT Up and dance, dance dance!! (the background singers as always make it that much more exceptional.)

Oh my word! Much as I love James Booker, I don't think I ever heard this one before. It was just posted on FB by someone I turned on to Booker:
BEYOND fabulous ~

Admittedly, along with most everyone in Mexico, this song destroys me every time. But this interpretation, by Marisoul with her incredible voice is really exceptional. (See English lyrics below the video, and the song fabulously delivered by its composer) lyricstranslate.com/en/amor-eterno-eternal-love.html-2
