After a sweep of a 4 game series in Boston against the NY Yankees we move onto Baltimore tonight. These boys must be exhausted..... In any event, we shall see how they fare. The season is coming to an end and every game counts.

We "creamed" the Baltimore Orioles tonight in their beautiful vintage stadium, Cambden Fields. Onward we go. I had the worst displeasure of sitting nearby a total jerk, (I watch the games in a nearby, very civilized pub). Anyway, I kept my cool and my husband arrived and we graciously changed seats to move away from the jerk who ultimately was asked to leave.

I don't think there is any comparison to the amount of physical strain involved in baseball versus golf. Just watching the pitcher throw umpteen pitches at a speed of 85mph and upward for sometimes a whole game of 9 innings is amazingly strenuous. Not to mention the running of bases etc. Clearly you haven't watched much professional baseball K.

But when the pitcher is good, nobody hits the ball and everybody else stands around doing nothing.

Very true. I played baseball--or hardball as we preferred to call it--and the pitcher and catcher, aka the battery, get a great workout, the shortstop, and first basemen get some regular excitement and almost any other position is like that description of war, "hours of boredom punctuated by brief moments of terror". And, of course, half the game is spent sitting on the bench watching your teammates take turns at the plate. And when you finally get to bat, around 80% of the time you'll either swing three times and miss/hit a couple of foul balls, or trot towards first base hopelessly as either your hit ball either gets caught or the ball is thrown to first base before you can humanly run there. Basically the catcher is the only real everyday stud on each team.
But in spite of all this, it can be highly athletic and you better be both ready and good when those rare terrifying moments arrive!

Yes, aside from the athletic prowess required to make it the major leagues, one's mental focus while playing must be razor sharp and super alert.
Well, the Red Sox, trounced the Baltimore Orioles 3 nights in a row. That makes 7 straight wins for them. And, yes, I'm sure the boys need a good rest.

I did see this yesterday a.m. Very tragic. Apparently a very talented athlete who arrived in the US from Cuba after 3 attempts. I was not familiar with his pitching skills as Miami is in a different league and division from the team/s I follow.

Well into the season, albeit still a long way to go, I feel obliged to at least take the time to mention that the ongoing rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and the NY Yankees is alive and well with both teams being tied for the moment in first place.
Nail biting games.
I am so unfamiliar with many of the current players on the Red Sox team as many have either retired or have been traded to other teams.
Gone are the days of players staying with one team for the majority of their career.
That being said, there is one player on Boston's team who is in about 3 years I'm guessing.
His name is Mookie Betts and aside from what I think is a really cool name he is also a heavy hitter.
All I got right now all you MLB fans out there.
This post will be buried and be "Under The Weather" quite soon I'm sure.
(how weather and sports got combined together in the same section has always mystified me but I do try hard to keep y'all abreast.) TBC...

The WORLD SERIES finally arrived and ended last night with my beloved BOSTON RED SOX clinching their much deserved title!!!
(one game lasted 18 innings which is an all time record and there were many, many other records broken that nite.)
My only wish is that they had won their final game in their home town Boston at Fenway Park instead of Los Angeles against the Dodgers. But, beggars can't be choosers and maybe now I can get to bed earlier after many, many late nites struggling to stay awake.)
BRAVO BOSOX!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for posting this Bixa. I have a vivid recall of Mr. Aaron's breaking Babe Ruth's record for homeruns. He was subjected to racial injustices and threats throughout his career. He was very forgiving and exhibited grace and poise despite the hatred he had to endure. RIP Hank.

Mexico. Puerto Rico. Cuba. Dominican Republic. Nicaragua. Panama. Venezuela. Japan.

That’s because those countries don’t have teams that compete in “Major League Baseball” (MLB).
The Canadian teams that do are the Montreal Expos and the Toronto Blue Jays.

It's that time of year good people. The playoffs between teams of in the same division began this past week. The Boston Red Sox eliminated the NY Yankees in the "wild card" game earlier in the week. This puts them in a playoff series with the first place team, in this case the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Boston lost the first game 5-0 And then, last night they creamed the Devil Rays 14-6!! Sunday, back to Boston for game 3.
GO BOSOX!!!!

Game 3 at Fenway Park. Boston vs. Tampa Bay last /evening/night. 13 innings tied up at 4-4 and then Boston pulled off 2 runs in the 13th to win 6-4. It seemed interminable...
Tonight, game 4, again, at Fenway.
GO BOSOX!!!!!!

Next up, whomever wins the Houston Astros or the Chicago White Sox will be our next contenders.
