That is good, Rikita. Is it an indoor pool?

yes. we have 11 C max during daytime now, so it's too cold for outdoors pools ... otherwise, they tend to be more kid friendly ...

I went out for a nice long walk yesterday. I was approaching the community garden when I happed on my dear, dear friend who donated part of her property for the garden (and, also had the Little Free Library erected there). She motioned for me to come into the garden and see "something". Then she took me over to a small section and pointed out a small trellis where she and another gardening buddy had planted a row of sweet peas just for me. The seeds they planted were harvested from some seed pods that I had given her last year. She told me that it saddens her every time she walks by my now barren front garden and how she remembered that I grew sweet peas as far back as she could remember.
I was so incredibly touched and moved by their thoughtfulness I can't begin to tell you.

Oh, that is so thoughtfully perfect, Casimira! It's also heartening to know that seeds from your sweetpeas will be harvested & you can get some to continue that planting tradition again.

Over the past two- or three-years NOLA has changed the name of several streets and some of the former landmarks honoring Civil War heroes.
Yesterday while going to the architect's office, I looked up and saw that we were driving on a boulevard formerly known as Robert E. Lee Blvd.
I did a double take when I saw a sign that read Allen Toussaint Blvd.
(I knew this was a plan already approved by the City Council but, to see it for real made me so happy.)

*APPLAUSE* Yes, I'll bet you were delighted. Recently I was watching a tv show where an overhead shot revealed a sign for " Jefferson Davis Hwy" on the interstate running through Washington DC. I was shocked! I think the part that runs through Virginia, at least, as now been renamed. They can't get rid of these monuments to the Confederacy fast enough, in my opinion.

I went to Jeff Davis Elementary School when I was little, which was on Jeff Davis Avenue. Even though the school was destroyed by hurricanes, I don't think they have planned to rename the street yet.

My youngest child attended an elementary school named after a black American educator. The building had opened in 1992. I also taught there for many years. However, my older three children attended a very old school named after a confederate civil war general. That school was renamed about two years ago.

If they keep all the Confederate monuments, place names etc. up, they might as well start right now in soliciting entries for a heroic monument to the Jan. 6 pig mob.

Legitimate Political Discourse *slaps forehead* Of course that's it. My bad! They really are scum-sucking hypocrites. I wonder how long it took them to come up with that phrase. BLM marches were all "looting", but breaking & entering, threatening lives, beating & threatening police officers and private citizens is "discourse". Lowlife soul-selling shithook bastards.

Yesterday my family was able to be together to celebrate a family birthday 🥳 at my parents home. My sister turned 63. It felt wonderful to be together. She enjoyed her cards, cake and gifts and was surprised to see us. She was not expecting it as we have all become accustomed to accepting phone call wishes but today was filled with hugs.

That is very lovely, Mich, for your sister & the whole family. What a long time you've had to endure without hugging your family members who live right there in the same town.

My MD is a gatekeeper of sorts for medical services now that I’m on Medicare, the US’s single-payer universal coverage health plan for those of us lucky enough to live to age 65. If I’m asking about a test or procedure that isn’t worth getting at my age or in my circumstances, she’ll dissuade me from getting it.
But when I recently mentioned my concern about my bulging tummy, a common post-menopausal condition, she didn't hesitate to refer me for abdominal and pelvic ultra-sounds. She knew the risk was very small of it being anything serious, but didn’t dismiss my concerns.
And now that I’ve passed those exams with flying colors, I feel so much lighter! I can carry on with life not worrying about a potential tumor (worst case ovarian cancer).
That’s my little thing.

Not so little, Kimby ~ good news! My thing will be genuinely little to everyone, but I'm inordinately pleased about it: I heard the earthquake alarm! Yep, over 24 years here & I'd never heard it. People around me heard it, but not I -- and I have exceptionally good hearing, but somehow blotted it out. Heard it tonight, followed by a teensy amount of shaking, although people around town are reporting that it was fairly strong. But ... I heard the alarm!!

Adelaide has tremors every day but they are not noticed by people. The first sign is when your plates and glasses rattle a bit in the cupboard and overhead lights swing a bit. Occasionally we get biggies that do damage, last one of these 1953

Nature things are often the little things that mean the most to me.
A few weeks ago, a bobcat strolled under the chairlift while we were skiing. This morning, a coyote criss-crossed the yard at the lake cottage, stopping now and then to listen for tiny rustlings under the snow. He or she (or they!) would freeze with one paw raised like a bird dog, then leap suddenly up and foward, plunging headfirst into the snow, as foxes also do. Two out of three times, it came up with a vole, threw its head back and swallowed it whole.
Good riddance voles! They are the reason I can’t have a garden here. But they do make good food for the great great owls and now the coyotes, too.

Sometimes we feel like we’re living in a national park, without the crowds!
I’m amazed at how successful it was in just a few minutes. It had a very healthy look to it, and a plush furry pelt.

Today’s little thing, and it means A LOT to me. I was clearing junk voicemails from my cell phone just now. I guess I need to do it more often.
Back in 2017 my sister Ricky left a 20-second voice mail thanking me for a book I’d sent her for her 60th birthday. Two years after her death it’s just lovely to hear her voice. Not deleting that one!
