Kimby, that's great. I never seem to be able to capture these.
Tod, yes, do your best to get some pics to night! You can do it.

All pics posted on SKYWATCH! People talk about a 'Blue Moon', Paper Moon, Silver Moon etc., Now they can see an 'Orange Moon' as the volcanic dust clouds the light from the sun and turns our nearest and dearest moon into an object of pure beauty!
As the eclipse passed over it hung very high in the sky like a small Chinese lantern glowing a warm redish colour. This was impossible to get on camera unfortunately.

Haven't been in this thread for a while, so missed Kimby's August moon in the beautiful landscape.
Wonderful autumn moon pictures, Casimira. Love the delicate colors in the first picture, the way the moon is framed in the middle one, & the clouds & stars in the third.

I had spotted an excellent full moon over Paris, too, but there was no place suitable to try to capture it. I'm glad casimira got it!

We had the unusual occurrence of a large ring around it as well.

Lovely pictures!
I WISH I had a decent camera as we have had some fabulous Harvest moons this Autumn. The current full moon has been astonishing.......massive but really low on the horizon - beautiful..

You are so lucky having a dark site and few buildings where you live. Living in the city we get fair views of the planets (when the weather allows it) but only see higher magnitude stars because of the light polution here, and anything low on the horizon is hidden by buildings.

I haven't seen a real, classic Harvest moon such as you describe, Myrt, for ages. The place where I lived before was fairly high in the hills, which made for better viewing. What you say really strikes a chord, Cheery. There are people fighting to reform the horrible lighting so prevalent in cities. One of their points is that such lighting creates glare and simultaneously makes deep shadows for hiding the very miscreants light is supposed to discourage. I read the two comments above yesterday, then found this lovely essay today: A Light in the Barn

That is a lovely essay Bixa, thank you for that. I live pretty much 'smack dab' in the middle of the city but,am fortunate to be far away enough from tall buildings and too too bright lights. The lights that there are make me crazy enough. It really hit home when after Hurricane Katrina when much of the city was still without electrical power when we returned. It was astounding how much more of the nightime sky one could see. ( and how much more one could hear). (It also made for daredevil driving with out traffic lights!! )

After the last few images, I'm wondering why this is an astronomy board thread and not an image bank thread. We already have the SkyWatch thread on here...

No tripod Imec,in fact, I almost didn't bother to take the shot because I was sure it would be wobbly as it so often does hand holding the camera. We were out walking the dogs up on the levee. Just lucked out and am feeling more confident I suppose with my new(ish) camera.

Thanks good people!! I was so disappointed that after watching the moon wax all last week and taking pics of it I was unable to get any full moon pics Monday night as we had a major squall come through with zero visibility. I caught a good glimpse of it last night right before bed time,it was quite brilliant.

i took a few pictures of the moon little while ago too, to try out my new lense. don't get as close as you did, but closer than with my other lense. will be a while before i have them online and can post them though...
interestingly, afterwards i had dreams about a huge moon wandering through the sky very quickly and me trying to get a photo of it, but my camera acting up all the time...

When the moon was full a couple of days ago, I could not find the proper place for a photo. However, I captured it today now that it is declining.
