I SO want to see the Super-moon tonight. But it's so cloudy today here (damn) I'll look out for it tonight though. Not taken by me of course but I couldn't help but be in awe of these ones taken in past years of the Super-moon: In this photo from March 19, 2011, people stand beside St. Michael's Tower on Glastonbury Tor hill in England, (It almost makes you wonder if the photos weren't touched up in some way. Or maybe they were just taken at just the right angle?)

I do not expect to see the moon tonight as rain pounds on my roof.

We have plans of sitting out on the deck tonight, having some drinks, watching the moons glow pass over the lake. We have clear skies...

How did it go, mich? Did you get a good look at the moon last night? Surprisingly the clouds moved away somewhat last night and I managed to get a couple of photos of the Super-moon, with my old camera: The moon was very bright last night, but didn't seem any bigger than any other full moon that I've seen really..

You're lucky to have seen the moon, deyana. It rained all night non stop last night in Paris, until at least 6am.

I was able to see the Super moon but through some cloud cover. It was so clear all day but I guess the cooler temperatures brought in some clouds for the evening. I will try to post some photos later once I get them loaded.
When the clouds did break it was certainly more brilliant than most full moons but I would not say it looked larger. I was disappointed because it did not have the opportunity to light up the night because of the cloud cover.
It is always one of our favorite nights of a summer when we have a clear night driving the boat back from an evening with friends down the lake and the moon lights up the whole lake guiding us home.
Sorry it rained for you Kerouac, and Deyana I am glad you got to see it, especially since it was unexpected that you would.
Cheers

That big old moon was nice and clear for us. Emergency room workers and others who deal with people in crisis swear that full moons make for a wilder and crazier night at work. I work in a similar field, and tend to be skeptical. But Friday night, Super Moon Eve, was especially wackily unhinged for us. Luckily I had the weekend off.
The big celestial sight for us the past couple of months has been Venus as an evening (and according to my OB/GYN MD friend, a morning) star. It's been crazy bright. Six weeks or so ago, the moon, Jupiter and Venus aligned dramatically over the western horizon.

Great shot htmb. Looking forward to seeing yours Casi.
I have tried many times to photo the moon but never been satisfied with the results. Any tips?
I will ask that elsewhere

(The new camera does a much better job of getting a focused moon.)

It's so nice to have a camera that doesn't blur the moon to a fuzzy ball....
although on closer inspection, it IS a fuzzy ball.
Something to work on...

I continue to await the matted & framed print of #317 that you're sending me. Last night I was on a rooftop terrace in front of Sto. Domingo church with a friend. We were watching the still nearly full moon rise on one side of the church. I marveled at its beauty as it reached & peeked around the cupola at the top. A couple of minutes later my friend said, "But is it supposed to be rising that rapidly?" All I could think was, "Kimby would know!" So okay ~~ how fast is the moon supposed to rise? Is its rising (or our perception of it) affected by the time of year or where on the globe the observer is located? Thanking you in advance, I remain Moonstruck

Dear Moonstruck, your perception of the moon's speed on rising is altered by the presence of objects in your line of sight for it to pass by. Once it is higher in the sky it will be moving just as fast, but with no reference points to help us on Earth gauge its progress.
Re: your matted framed print of #317, I'll bring it on my next trip to Oaxaca. Or you can come to Montana and pick it up!
