Now is a time for the Queen's family to get together and support her and each other. There is a chance that she'll make a good recovery, after all all she's only 96. ❤️

The BBC has already pulled it’s programmes and newsreaders are already in black suits and ties. Perhaps clog popping is imminent and they know it.
How do they make the left arm 3 and a quarter inches wide?

Wall to wall coverage here as you would expect. If the close family are all gathering it sounds like she's probably at the end of her life (if not gone already). The statement earlier was very unusual, something must have occurred to necessitate an anouncement. The protocol will be followed rigidly.
The Queen did look very frail in the recent pics of her greeting Boris and then the new PM.

The coverage on the 4 French news channels is also wall to wall. Nobody wants to miss out on being the first to make an announcement.
At least the "normal" channels have not changed their programmes (yet).

The only British monarch most of us have known. A good one, and a tough act for Bonnie Prince Charlie to follow.

I think I heard on the news that 83% of the British were born under her reign.

We had given up on all the procrastination on the news channels and were watching an episode of 'Big Bang Theory' when it was announced. There was a banner across the screen saying 'Turn to Channel 4 for an important announcement'. Even tho I'm not a fan of the monarchy I felt quite sad. Maj was on the throne before I was born so she's always 'been there'...a constant in our lives. The newsreader said 'The King and Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and return to London tomorrow. There are 10 days of mourning. So we have a state funeral, a coronation and an investiture (Wills will presumably become the new Prince of Wales).

So IF Charles, now 73, lives to his mothers age, which is very unlikely for a man, William would be 10 years YOUNGER than his father upon becoming King. Somehow Charles has always seemed old…

Ever since I was a little bitty girl playing with my royal family coronation paper dolls in my grandparents' dining room, I've been a full blown fan of the queen and don't care if that makes sense to anyone or not. There are no kleenex left in my house today.

I think in the shuffling of positions it would be good to see HRH Anne become Princess of Wales. As the Princess Royal she has been hard-working and I think she is not recognised enough. Historically the English King was doing a count of which Nobles were loyal to him. They say that when the crowds roared for a Welsh Prince, the King held up his new born son and said, " This is your Prince, He has to be the Prince of Wales because he doesn't speak a word of English".
As the position signifies loyalty to the Crown and identifying those against it, there is no rule (I THINK)that could not be modified to allow for a woman Princess to swear allegiance to Charles as he did to his mother. Andrew and Harry would not b accepted by the Brits and by the time the children of the next generation are old enough, who knows what languages will be spoken.
Meanwhile Rest in Peace, Lizzy, You done good!

I want Princess Anne to be Queen. No hope of that though. Or Charles to abdicate and make William the King.

The one thing in Charles's favour is that he's a gardener (and a bit of an eco-warrior). I can't think of him a king tho....

I just cannot imagine the people who want William to be king. I wouldn't wish such a horrible job on my worst enemy, and William is an apparently nice young father with a family. I know that a lot of people enjoy watching others suffer, even more so for such a useless reason. Go figure. It is inhuman. When you look at how an American president (for example) ages 10 years during his 4 year term, the top royals are condemned to a grim fate, too. And the people just love it, just so long as they get a new picture mug for their tea.

He has a strong sense of duty, that's good enough for me. I would think that is the only important thing, particularly for a job that his predecessor managed to triumph at in this age of personality worship. To say that one prefers this or that member of the royal family to be monarch makes no sense, especially since the idea of monarchy makes no sense. It's an inherited position and Charles' function in life was always to fill that position. But since preference and liking are being discussed, I like him because he seems very human and as relatable as a person can be who comes from that stratosphere of wealth and privilege. Perhaps he will be entirely human and decide to finally be the one who dissolves the monarchy. In terms of sense of duty, my favorite of all the many portraits of the queen that we saw all over various media yesterday was the one used by the BBC in its announcement of her death. To me it seems a powerful depiction of a person who firmly chose to fill the role she was given and to subsume herself within it in public. www.bbc.com/news/uk-61585886

It's true that the "duty" aspect of the job is a bit ridiculous, because countries without monarchies require all the same duties, which are assigned to various people, and they seem to manage. And if the dutie are not fulfilled properly, they just change the people in charge. In most of the monarchies, that is not an option.

Charlie gave a nice address this evening. The service of thanksgiving afterwards was atended by 2000 members of the public...first come first served. This sort of event is usually reserved for 'the great and the good'..invitation only. A few politicians were there but it was predominantly ordinary folk who wantd to be there.

Whilst I find the over the top outpouring of emotion coming from my family and chums rather strange...the nastiness on social media from some is really quite distasteful. Because the monarchy is so integral to our culture I don't know whether I want to get rid of them completely. I think that Charles will be a reformer, hopefully we'll end up with a similar system to Sweden. Retaining the comfort of tradition whilst reducing the nonsense. Allegedly Charles wants to slim down the working royals to a team of 7 including himself. The rest of them might have to fend for themselves.....

I am curious to see jow Brits will react. They loved Diana so much and don't like Camilla and Charles has not come out that clean with the divorce. I think William would be more loved. But Charles has already pledged the reat of his life to be sent as the king.

If this were Japan or Korea, they could have created an immortal virtual QE2. Would have cost a lot less than maintaining palaces and staff.

Watching William and Harry working the crowds together at Windsor confuses me a bit. The crowd and the royals are all smiling and happy as though nothing bad had happened in recent days. I thought they were supposed to be in mourning, but I may be mistaken. It is possible that they are so relieved that granny finally kicked the bucket that it is a time for celebration.
